Former New Orleans Saints player Will Smith was shot and killed Saturday in what appeared to be a road rage incident that has shocked fans of the much-loved athlete.
Coroner Jeffrey C. Rouse said in an emailed statement that Smith died of "multiple gunshot wounds" after a traffic accident in the city's Lower Garden District. The former defensive end was 34 years old.
Cardell Hayes, 28, was arrested on a charge of second-degree murder in Smith's death, New Orleans Police Department spokesman Tyler Gamble said Sunday. Police said Hayes was the driver of a Humvee H2 that rear-ended Smith's Mercedes G63 about 11:30 p.m. Saturday. A passenger in Hayes' vehicle was questioned and released, he said.
Gamble said the investigation was continuing. Online court records show Hayes pleaded guilty in 2014 to one count each of possessing an illegal weapon and possessing drug paraphernalia.

Typical. New Orleans has so much violent crime, and virtually all of it is committed by one race. Of course, one is not allowed to notice the facts. That would be racist.
Good reason to stick with Navigators. They don’t seem to attract a certain clientele as well as Escapades and certain other vehicles do.
I don’t think the guy can walk easily under Stand Your Ground, if he had a firearm “under disability”
If he has been convicted of a felony gun charge in his past, or has drugs or alcohol in his system, or has been or is in the commission of a crime, he is not eligible for a SYG defense. (At least in most states. Not sure of LA.)
So, if a person is trespassing (i.e. been thrown out of a party) and comes back to confront the property owner and the owner punches him, he is not eligible for SYG.
Same goes if he had been drinking. You may not be “in control” of a firearm while under the influence and claim SYG. Though prosecutors may not block SYG if you were in your own home, drinking a beer, and someone breaks in...
I doubt the guy will walk.
They used to know how to handle the problems in New Orleans. Of course, the Feds meddled in things after 1866.
And they also knew how to take care of the Mafia, cleaning up in 1891.
Perp previously settled a lawsuit with the city after the police gunned down his father.
Black Lives Matter. (When the circumstances are right)
He was undoubtedly dissed...so just murder the disser.
Thats what rules the streets of New Orleans. They need no provocation they attack and kill because they LIKE it.When tourists are lured.to N.O. this is what is waiting for you. The victim lived in an affluent part of Kenner. Bet his last thought was he wished he’d stayed in the suburbs. The only reason this is different is that its a football player. Nobodies bleed on the pavement regularly. Stay out of New Oeleans-especially at night. You are prey and the predators are everywhere.
After reading about Will, NOT exactly a “Saint” himself. However, killing not justified !!!
Generational criminal.Drug record and he was actually PAID by the city -in the 7 figures-after cops shot his criminal father a decade ago. That explains the Hummer. So the city actually financed this criminal by rewarding him for his criminal farhers death by the police. Let that sink in gang.
Payment for drugs involved?
