Ted Cruz, the man who believes god wants him to be president
Daily Express ^ | April 8, 2016 | Chris Roycroft-Davis

SENATOR Ted Cruz may be dubbed the most despised man in Washington but he is certain God wants him to be the next president of the US.

snip

What is disconcerting is the paradox that such a religious person as Cruz can attract such hatred. If you think hatred is a strong word this is what Cruz’s college room-mate says of him: “I would rather have anybody else be the president of the United States. Anyone. I would rather pick somebody from the phone book.”

In case the US did not get the message, Craig Mazin – now a scriptwriter – added: “Ted Cruz will become the thing you need him to be so that he wins an election. No principles, no moral centre, no values. Just ambition.”

snip

Ted GETTY, Trump's senior policy advisor said said Cruz was a Wall Street globalist

The dawning realisation that it could be Cruz prompted Trump’s most senior policy adviser to tell an audience in Wisconsin: “I’m going to tell each and every one of you the real truth about Ted Cruz. He is a radical Wall Street globalist who will rip the beating heart of manufacturing out of the United States of America.”

Strong stuff. Trump weighed in this way: “He’s a nasty guy. Nobody likes him. Nobody in Congress likes him. Nobody likes him anywhere once they get to know him.”

snip

When asked which politician they would like to run for president many people who have worked with him closely say anyone but Cruz.

One political strategist who worked with Cruz in George W Bush’s campaign office tweeted that: “If a truth serum was given to the staff of the 2000 Bush [campaign team] an enormous percentage would vote for Trump over Cruz.”

“Been saying he same thing about FL”

I’ve talked about him not winning Florida a hundred times here. Not one Cruz supporter has challenged me, even the Cruz experts here. They don’t have an answer. Like you said, they’re like a cult, and they don’t need answers because he is the “anointed one”.

Ted Cruz has strong principles and has always been guided by the Constitution.

I really don’t care what his Hollywood liberal college roommate who writes trash movie scripts thinks about him. He was probably offended that Cruz read the Bible. The whole article is a rehashed slam.

Just because you don’t like the article does not make it a slam piece...actually a lot of it was rather laudatory if you read it...

Interesting that roommate did not say Cruz was a Bible-Thumper...which is what I would have expected...I actually had someone who lived next to me in dorm my Freshman year of college come up to me 3 years as a senior and state that my Bible reading drove them nuts...made them very uncomfortable...They had become a Christian, so we could laught about it...

Anyway, Cruz roommate did not say that he was a Bible-Thumper...He said “Cruz will become the thing you need him to be so that he wins an election. No principles, no moral centre, no values. Just ambition.”

erkelly said: "But to react that violently after all those years, suggests something on a different level entirely; perfectly possessed perhaps?"

Or perhaps a liberal? If it helped this person to elect Bernie or Hillary or whoever he supports, do you think he would not lie?

If admiration from one's roommate is the litmus test for the Presidency, then perhaps we should all support Al Gore. Wasn't Tommy Lee Jones his roommate and political supporter?

“Ted Cruz, the man who believes god wants him to be president”

The inference in the title is that there is something wrong with this. But someone please explain to me, how is that any different than a person who believes god wants him/her to be:

A teacher
A minister/priest/nun
A missionary
A doctor/nurse
A good father/mother/husband/wife
A virgin until marriage
A police officer/soldier/firefighter

... or any other attribute or profession to which one feels that they are called?

‘Yup. Not even remotely concerned about this.’

Are you remotely concerned that Cruz straight up ADMITTED that he and Heidi give zero to their home church?

Imagine voting for a religious person who believes that God DOESN’T want him to be President. Now THAT would be weird.

Well, that was not the main reason I posted the article, but I always pray for God’s will...which I often don’t claim to know ;)

He was asked by reporter--not like he is going on about it...

Au contraire. Craig Mazin's been tweeting about this for months.

Cruz's college roommate is on an epic 10-month Twitter rant

That article was from a few months back so now Mazin's been tweeting about Cruz for over a year.

I would think that most people would want to be associated with a famous person running for President... Everyone likes a winner mentality...

Not if they're on different sides of a political/ideological/religious divide.

I suppose Ted Cruz was a jerk in college. Most college boys are. My concern was more with Craig Mazin's character now. There's something very ugly in what he's been doing. More here and here.

I certainly wouldn't take Mazin's word for it that Cruz was "completely unprincipled." That's the hate talking, not necessarily a fair and unbiased assessment.

BTW I have not seen nasty Trump roommate articles yet.

Not yet anyway.

In the real world, do you do things you think God doesn’t want you to do?

Yes, it's known as Concupiscence.

The title is misleading, according to the article, “Ted “looked up and said: ‘Lord, here am I, use me. I surrender to you, whatever you want.’”

That’s certainly not an indicator that God want’s him to become president........It sounds more like a profession of faith............How many Christians here can admit to that?

The MSM needs to stay out of religion........

The title is not why I posted the article...Actually, the article has quite a bit of information in it that Cruz supporters would probably like...

This thread reminds me of when I was teaching and I would ocassionally do a quiz starting with the verbal comment:

Read all the instructions first.

The first one being to turn the paper over and write your name on the back of the page

...I was amazed at the number of kids that did not do that.

Likewise, I am amazed at the number of people who don’t read the article or my comments immediately following it ;)

Sometimes, common sense doesn’t win out. Especially when it threatens beliefs that another treasures.

This is a guy who lived with Cruz, and spent time with him. His comments about Cruz are far different than what I would have expected, which is something along the lines of "Well, Ted is a conservative Constitutionalist to the core, though I don't agree with him on politics, that is just who he is..."

Guy said Ted will be whoever and whatever he needs to be to win, and this concerns me...

You have to take into consideration the possibility that the roommate himself may have an agenda. The writer (Hangover 2, Scary Movie 3) knows what can "concern" people most. He also said that Freshman Ted abused the snooze alarm and was smelly. My wife pointed out that most college freshman males are smelly.

By Mazin's own earlier recollection, young Ted came onto the Freshman campus in the late '80s carrying a book called was "Was Karl Marx a Satanist?" does not win friends and influence people at Princeton. Cruz was not a Bill Clinton shape-shifter. He does NOT remake his politics to whatever will win. He's always been a full spectrum conservative, and always has been, with Ronald Reagan and Milton Friedman his poltical bases, and Pentecostal/Baptist influences on his personal theology. Note the lack of specific examples. He gives no recounts of student body races, or the like and his college and law professors, some of whom disagree with his politics have not backed up this hack D-tier pot-head-audience movie writer.

The article oddly did not capitalize "God" in the headline but did in the body of the text. Strange.

By the way, my own college freshman had some VERY different activities from me, and we really didn't chum around after orientation week. We know very little about each other, except that he would remember that I had a 2'x3' Reagan-Bush campaign poster, played more Del Shannon than he would have liked (he played Def Leppard, until I unwisely sold him my ELO Greatest Hits cassette for $1, and then he played ONLY that for three weeks), and various other things that I hope he got over since then. He also had hand made construction paper scribblings of various philosophical points, all of which contradicted each other. Not enough to tell the world what kind of president he would be.

College freshmen at places like Princeton, U of C, Yale etc. assign freshmen not of rationality, but more often out of malicious caprice. Few of the ones on my floor in Fallers House that year spent a lot of time with each other.

I apologize for the sloppy editing, I mean to say that Mazin gave no specific examples to demonstrate his point.
