On the contrary. As a NJ voter, I would love nothing better than if Cruz came in and slammed Orange Donald for his past support of the Democrats responsible for ruining my state. I think Cruz is right on.

Cruz is playing(when he decries NY values) to enough NY state voters in upstate to deny Trump a greeater than 50 per cent of the NY primary vote. I know upstate NY very well...Areas in the Southern tier of NY state and Hornel west towards Rochester as well as Northern NY around Plattsburgh and Rome Utica as well as suburbs of Syracuse have the highest concentrations of evangelical voters in the state and who love Cruz. They will vote to deny Trump the full slate of NY’s republican delegates hence making it harder for him to get the 1237 he needs to win the Nomination outright!

Doubling down is precisely what Ted Cruz should do on the New York City values issue.

The issue in New York is not whether Cruz can win but whether Trump can be kept under 50% because that has great influence on the delegate count. Meanwhile there are forty-nine other states in which a significant portion of the population abhors New York values and Ted Cruz can gain a lot of support by articulating that point of view.

Republicans in California, for example, share a distrust of New York City values and might very well vote for Cruz who opposes them and against Trump who embodies them.

Cruz can get a lot of headlines and name recognition throughout the country and much approbation if the doubles down. Upstate New Yorkers are not universally enamored of New York City and Cruz' remarks are directed toward the city not toward the whole state. Cruz might be able peel off enough votes upstate to deprive Trump of his 50%. Remember, this is a Republican primary not a general election-which Trump would lose in New York anyway.

Cruz should demonstrate the reality that he can stand up against Trump who despite his New York City bravado is afraid to debate Cruz and this issue will give Cruz a bullhorn with which to do it. Let Trump defend the city of New York and get identified in the national mind with New York City. Let Cruz be identified in the popular mind as the man who exposes both Trump in New York City for what they are: the corrupt, crony, tyrannical city state which is coming to a bureaucracy near you if the likes of Donald Trump prevail.
