Cruz cozies up to D.C. establishment

He's disparaged his own Republican leader as a liar and dismissed fellow senators as part of the "Washington cartel." But now, with his presidential prospects hanging in the balance, Ted Cruz is moving closer than ever to the D.C. establishment.

Directly and through surrogates, the Texas senator is aggressively reaching out to his Senate colleagues as he prepares for the possibility of a convention floor fight against Donald Trump. And Cruz’s emissaries on Capitol Hill are now signaling to senior Republicans that Cruz would be willing to work with them as the GOP nominee in a way Trump would not.

So far, Cruz can tout only two Senate endorsements, from conservative Mike Lee and the deal-making centrist Lindsey Graham. But Senate Republicans are now at least listening to an intensified pitch from Cruz and his allies: That he’s a far more stable choice for the top of the ticket and for the GOP's hopes of keeping the Senate.

Hmmm.

I've observed the craftsmanship of the AFP/Koch boys vicariously at work when an AFP Barney-surfer caught dropped into a wave (was appointed to a seat on the city council) in our local Tea cup.

I wasn't impressed. At least not favorably.

Yes, they came to us. The establishment surrendered to Cruz without firing a shot. They saw the power of Cruz and just threw in the towel at their mortal enemy.
Go back to sleep.

He has Reagan's level of wisdom because Reagan did the exact same thing.

But Cruz lacks Reagan's leadership and communication skills, otherwise the Reagan Democrats would be flocking to him. They're not. They're flocking to the great leader and communicator Trump.

Cruz doesn’t have to “cozy” very far. Neil Fricken Bush? as campaign finance chair? Citi Bank and Goldman backing him. There’s more but by now if you are on FR you know all about Cruz and either accept it or run away from it.

Again, ask your question in the context of Reagan. When he won the nomination and election, he got to reshape the party machinery.

Then how is it that the Bushes have so much control over the party machinery? Doesn't seem to have worked.

Because Reagan left office and hasn't been President for nearly 28 years. Doesn't mean that the party establishment wasn't reshaped by him when he was in power.

The Uniparty will continue to be there, whether we like it or not. I prefer a President who believes in the constitution, & who has shown quite clearly that he has issues with the GOP-e & will fight them.

That's true -- Cruz isn't nearly as good a communicator as Reagan was, and that preacher cadence he has to his voice is off-putting to many people.

On the other hand, while Trump has shown Reagan's knack for attracting some blue collar Democrats, he has failed utterly at motivating/rallying the conservative core of the party. Reagan had that entire wing locked down solid, and only needed to draw in the Reagan Democrats to win.

Other problem is that the electorate is different now than it was in 80 and 84. Not only do we have far more minorities, but government-loving single females are a much larger percentage of the electorate.

The margin for error for any Republican is small, and I suspect neither Trump nor Cruz can overcome it - and Kasich hasn't earned a shot to try. So this really, really sucks. What sucks the worst is the further on this primary season goes, the more divided the party has become.

“as he prepares for the possibility of a convention floor fight against Donald Trump.”

And how does Cruz think that scenario is ever going to happen? By the last primary on June the 7th Trump will be at or near 1237. Cruz at best in the mid eight hundreds.

Trump is simply going to call Kasich up and offer him the VP slot and pay off all his campaign debts for the 143 delegates he has in his pocket. We all know Johnny wants the job. Trump will waltz into the convention with plenty of delegates to win on the first ballot.

Cruz will be statistically out of it by April 26th and in all probability he will be approaching Trump at some point trying to cut a deal for the VP slot.

The media and the chattering class like to hype up a contested convention because it creates excitement but its highly unlikely to happen.

>>the support of the RNC

The RNC didn’t become the spendid Cluster Frack that it is overnight.

It did so in a moral vacuum that was allowed to exist because We the People FAILED to exercise ownership over Government of the People, By the People, For the People.

That state of affairs can’t be changed overnight, and can ultimately only be corrected, as Jefferson observed - by facilitating the education (and enlightened morality) of the common people and the government We consent to having operate by proxy on our behalf.

Furthermore morality, or the increasing lack thereof, is symptomatic of the cancer that can be seen germinating within the “Reality” TeeVee fantasy the sheeple have been mesmerized into worshiping over the past 14 years.

The advertising Sponsors of The D/RNC Uniparty (AKA Bread and Circuses-R-Us) know the Sheeple want a quick political fix.

They also know there is no quick fix and it’s not in their self-serving nature to tell the truth about that, especially when the lies can be gamed so profitably — so they let the dramatic charade continue.

Jefferson knew the nature of the Sponsors. So did Jesus when He drew their sins in the sand.

Extracting ourselves from their purview is a slow process that WE are responsible for - not Trump, not Cruz, not Clinton or Sanders - WE. ARE. RESPONSIBLE.

With all due respect sir, you are wrong. Trump has just as many establishment endorsements as Cruz, if not more. And by no means does Cruz ‘speak like establishment’, whatever the hell that means. In fact, between the two, it is Trump whose positions more align with the establishment of both parties. Trump talks about making deals, and getting along with our idiotic congress.

The only candidate that has proven he is anti-establishment by his actions and work in the senate, and it is easily visible by the statements of Lindsey Graham, John McCain, John Boehner, and on and on and on.

So, spare me your lecture about looking at the ‘big picture’ and your superior ‘understanding’. Quite frankly, you sound incredibly ignorant and ill prepared to defend Trump.

I believe the following with all my heart.

Cruz started running for president the same day he started running for the senate. He was a “true conservative” and said what we conservatives wanted to hear. And what’s even more fantastic is all the gopE HATED him! He was truly one of us!

He called McConnell a liar on the floor of the senate! Finally, someone speaking the truth! Man, is he on our side!

Graham said you could kill him in the senate and not be convicted because EVERYONE in the senate hates him so much! And they hate us, too! Ain’t that grand!

He stood in the senate and said all the right things. He was the only one who tried to kill obamacare.

The media love him and the “conservative” talk show hosts praise him.

But he never really accomplished anything. Reading The Cat in the Hat has gotten us nowhere.

He says he didn’t know he wasn’t a U.S. citizen when he ran for the senate.

Then he started taking endorsements from and hiring the gopE.

McConnell’s superpac gave money to Cruz’s superpac. I don’t think McConnell hates him as much as he pretended to.

Graham endorsed Cruz and did a fundraiser for him. Apparently he doesn’t hate him so much after all.

All the right people hated him. And all the right people loved him. That does not compute.

Sarah Palin saw through him. So did Jeff Sessions and Jan Brewer and many others we conservatives love so dearly and believe in so deeply.

But, sadly, too many didn’t see and still don’t. They all wanted a “true conservative” so badly they refuse to believe they’ve been had.

I believe Cruz has been a gopE plant for the entire time. I know it hurts to admit you’ve been fooled again. But if you still believe in Cruz, you’re being played like you were in 2008 and 2012.

Cruz is not being used by the gopE. His supporters are!

Exactly. Just look at Cruz’s career. He’s a GOP establishment guy who never had an anti-establishment bone in his body until he had to run against establishment Dewhurst for the Senate. Then he self serving hitched his wagon to the TEA Party like A LOT of other careerists. One thing is for sure, Harvard boy Ted is not one of us.

Your long comment is food for thought...That sounds extremely feasible seeing as the way things have gone for the last month...
Cruz “looked good” for a while...When Trump started pulling away, the Cruz true colors began to show...
