(NBC) - Donald Trump says he regrets retweeting an unflattering photo of the wife of rival Ted Cruz, a rare move for the Republican front-runner more known for his boasts than backtracking.
"Yeah, it was a mistake," Trump told New York Times.
"If I had to do it again, I wouldn't have sent it."
The retweet set off a war of words between the two candidates, and gave fresh fuel to Democratic candidates and other critics who marveled at a Republican presidential race that had descended into a fight over the candidates' wives.
Trump retweeted the photo compilation showing an unflattering picture of Heidi Cruz and his own wife, Melania, after he accused Cruz of being behind or at least knowing about an ad that featured an old picture of Melania Trump posing nude for GQ magazine.
Cruz has denied any involvement in the ad, which was shared online. Cruz scolded Trump after the retweet, admonishing the businessman: "Donald, real men don't attack women."
told Dowd, according to the column. "So what's your next question?"
Are you referring to the photo from GQ that was made public long ago? Those pictures?
If they released private photos I’d whole heartedly agree. She took those pictured viluntarily.
Seriously?
No thanks
Or maybe.......WHEN Ted APOLOGIZES for all the rotten things he’s said about....and done to...TRump!
Whoa!! Hit a nerve there....just stating the facts....Trumps a liar and evidently you can’t handle it!!!
Is Trump running as the family values, good Christian, principled consistent conservative candidate?
Cruz called the ad inappropriate. Video at link.
And that would be???
If you haven’t heard it then you have been in a cab until today.
Heidi is not coming across as a gracious warm person. She seems to be more of a hillary-in-training. JMHO
That’s really a petty argument. The first lady has a huge commitment as they should.
I agree with your assessment. Trump has done the math. After the contest in New York on the 19th, it will no longer be mathematically possible for Cruz to get to 1237 delegates before the convention. A vote for Cruz after that will be a vote for letting the GOP establishment pick the nominee.
Cruz will not be picked by the GOP establishment to be their nominee. We know this because Carl Rove, Paul Ryan, Reince Priebus, Lindsay Graham, Mitch McConnell and the rest have all told us so. If that were not enough we have the recent debacle in Tennessee that confirms this as well.
Cruz has about two more weeks of actual relevance left in this contest. Trump needs to begin patching things up with the people who are still supporting Cruz. The best way that Trump can do this is to tone it all down and treat Cruz and his followers with as much respect and courteously as possible. I predict that the nastiness toward Cruz both here on Free Republic and from Trump has run its course. We may see a minor flair up here and here as Cruz struggles for continued relevance. But again I agree with your assessment and am looking forward to a much more harmonious rest of the race.
Because its a convenient lie.
Of course that comes from a person who supports one of the most crass people ever!!!
#177. So the answer is, you won’t admit Donnie is a habitual liar, even though both Carson and Corey’s public comments prove it beyond doubt? Instead you resort to personal attacks?
I thought so.
They were published in GQ. GQ said they sold it to the PAC.
Hey, you're right.
I do not think the wives are off limits, they vowed to God that they are one.
The kids are innocent and in the wake of the storm
Lol were you born yesterday?
#181 actually she did it for money and public attention.
Which she got ...
Yep. Sounds like a classy girl to me. A great role model for first lady.
