Donald J. Trumps presidential candidacy has stunned the Republican Party. But if he survives a late revolt by his rivals and other leaders to become the partys standard-bearer in the general election, the electoral map now coming into view is positively forbidding.
In recent head-to-head polls with one Democrat whom Mr. Trump may face in the fall, Hillary Clinton, he trails in every key state, including Florida and Ohio, despite her soaring unpopularity ratings with swing voters.
In Democratic-leaning states across the Rust Belt, which Mr. Trump has vowed to return to the Republican column for the first time in nearly 30 years, his deficit is even worse: Mrs. Clinton leads him by double digits in Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania.
Mr. Trump is so negatively viewed, polls suggest, that he could turn otherwise safe Republican states, usually political afterthoughts because of their strong conservative tilt, into tight contests. In Utah, his deep unpopularity with Mormon voters suggests that a state that has gone Republican every election for a half-century could wind up in play. Republicans there pointed to a much-discussed Deseret News poll last month, showing Mrs. Clinton with a narrow lead over Mr. Trump, to argue that the state would be difficult for him.

Polls conducted this far out are useless. Ted sCruz is a fraud and a con artist. He is not a conservative he is a liberal in his mentors shadow George Bush.
He was one of the sponsors of TPP, he voted for the Corker Bill then came to a protest against the Iran nuke deal at the Capitol. Others speaking there thst day included Trump and Sarah Palin.
I got to meet and shake Ted sCurz’s hand he is strange, unable to look me in the eye.
His wife is no where to be seen because the sotry of Ted sCruz his Bang of 5 must be true.
Just look at who his supporters are, Romney, Rove, Graham, Bush, Neil Bush is now his finance manager, RINOs all.

Im done enabling the slower destruction of the country by voting for yet another GOPe uniparty fraud. Its Trump or bust at this point for this lifelong Republican.
If Im gone from FR for exercising my vote and free speech, Good Bye!”
GOPe Means Bend Over Spell Run,
Twice?
you mean you got zotted once before?
Trump can not savage Hillary. The man is aready viewed negatively by 70% of women. Anything Trump does to savage Hillary will be hammered in the media as proof of Trumps being anti woman. He will treat her with kid gloves in the same fashion McCain and Romney did with 0bama.
Your post implies women are stupid and cannot think for themselves. It also assumes They all have bad memories of what Hillary has done to threaten their families and selves.

many thanks for your post.
I remember voting for Reagan when he first ran for President.
I remember him saying “Its morning in America”.
He made us strong, after Carter’s decimations.
I will vote for Trump.
I want America great again!
Here you go If you plan to vote for Ted Cruz, you MUST know these things! Educate yourselves on him and his wife
* Heidi Cruz has been employed by Goldman Sachs since 2005. She is currently on leave.
* Heidi Cruz is a member of the leftist council on foreign relations, advocates of world Government and a New World Order.
* Ted Cruz was George Bush’s top policy advisor.
* Ted Cruz was in the federal Trade Commission.
* Ted and Heidi met when they were both Bush staffers.
* Cruz advised on legal affairs and Heidi on economic policy for the bush administration.
* Heidi was director for the Western Hemisphere on the national security council under Condoleeza Rice.
* Heidi served as deputy U.S. Trade Representative to USTR head,
Robert Zoellick, working on China trade policy.
* Ted Cruz’ campaign chairman, Chad Sweet, is a former CIA officer.
He also worked for Goldman Sachs.
* Ted Cruz voted for cloture on TPA, (trans pacific partnership agreement)
fast track trade authority, removing the hurdle of concern for further amendment, and clearing the way for passage!
It didn’t have to be recorded, so nobody knew this.
He voted NOT to require approval of congress before other countries could join, including China.
* Cruz has openly stated that he will NOT use a deportation force, and will continue to use the failed ICE system, where an illegal has to commit a crime first, then be caught.
* Cruz belongs to the radical Christian sect of 7 mountains dominionism.
Wise up, he’s not who you think he is
he has always been establishment, he is bought and paid by the banks. He did not vote to audit the Federal Reserve, he most certainly is establishment.
This is circulating the web. Pass it on!
I remember people dismissing all of the warning back in 2010 for the same reasons. Its the Times or WaPo. Its a conspiracy. The polls are rigged. You will see.
And in 2012.
Any comparison to 1980 is wishful thinking against the tide of reality
Though I’d grant that Hillary may well be a Carter..
That would be an insult to Carter.
Carter was at least honest.
You cannot believe the Hillary supporters out there who have absolutely no idea of her criminal past,
That’s factored already in these polls. Her negatives are almost as high as his. So the corruption angle won’t have much of an impact especially since he also donated to the Clinton Foundation.
But, i wish you luck in trying it
The comparison was between two election cycles not between two individuals

Then it’s even worse for Trump.
Demographics have shifted alot since 1980, for starters
In todays California, a random person off the street running with a D next to his name would beat the most accomplished Republican candidate imaginable. Ronald Reagan wouldnt stand a chance here.
Who was the last Republican to win a statewide election in California to any office? Global celebrity Arnold Schwarzenegger? Any since?
Today, not going to happen. And CA is a window to our demographic shift nationwide
Newt pointed out recently that at this point in the process, Reagan was 23 points behind Carter. Glad to see the chart which shows that.
Trump will landslide-win over Shrillery in a similar way.
Its quite obvious the 'rats ONLY fear the Donald!
(everyone else, they KNOW they can crush like McCain, Dole, Romney)
The polls all lie will be the mantra of Trump supporters right up until his concession speech.
Just like 2012.
I guess nobody should base their voting on polls, however. Vote for whomever and win or lose on that, I guess
Reagan was almost certainly not 70% unliked... He was a popular actor and beloved governor.
The public in March of 1980 weren’t sure about replacing Carter with Reagan.
The advantage both he and she would have in the general is none are nationally loved by the electorate. So they both start from the bottom.
Head-to-head match ups are meaningless at this point;
True.
But as of now, Trump is in serious trouble.
There are Black Swans galore for Hillary just waiting to take flight! Benghazi, Russian Reset, E-mail Server, Clinton Crime Foundation, .... Donald Trump hasnt even started on her yet.
That will only have a limited effect. The public is aware who Hillary is
Also, most people making the Reagan-Trump comparison are forgetting that the 1980 election was all but overshadowed by the Iranian hostage crisis, and the failure to resolve that by Carter redounded to Reagan’s benefit.
The gas lines, high inflation, Misery index, ect didn’t help Carter, either. We don’t have that today and BHO’s JAR is in the 50 percentile
I can’t find what election to compare this to in reality. Both are strongly disliked by a majority. One is under FBI investigation.
It will be interesting to see who actually wins provided they both get the nominations
It’s an irrelevant exercise doing an electoral map. Half the republican party is angry at the other half.
I’d wait until after the convention, and then it is significant.
