Trump Just Attacked Scott Walker For Being Too Conservative
The Daily Wire ^ | March 31, 2016 | Aaron Bandler

Posted on 03/31/2016 2:40:50 PM PDT by DrewsDad

Real estate mogul Donald Trump continues to reveal his true leftist colors, smearing Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) for being too conservative.

After Walker endorsed Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), Trump unleashed a barrage of leftist talking points against Walker.

"There’s a $2.2 billion deficit and the schools were going begging and everything was going begging because he didn’t want to raise taxes ’cause he was going to run for president," Trump said. "So instead of raising taxes, he cut back on schools, he cut back on highways, he cut back on a lot of things."

Townhall's Guy Benson points out that Trump had previously leveled this smear towards Walker in September, even though The Washington Post, PolitiFact and FactCheck.org – all of which are leftist fact-checkers – all discredited the attack. Wisconsin had a projected $2.2 billion deficit at one point in 2014, but there was never an actual deficit since state law requires the budget to be balanced, which is what Walker did. Radio host Charlie Sykes confronted Trump on his lie, and Trump put the onus on Time Magazine, even though the magazine got the number from Trump himself.

But what's even more disturbing is that Trump's criticism of Walker suggests that Trump's first instinct is to raise taxes to balance the budget rather than conservative spending, which used to be a cardinal sin in Republican primaries. It's also bad economics, as economist Thomas Sowell explains:

In 1920, when the top tax rate was 73 percent, for people making over $100,000 a year, the federal government collected just over $700 million in income taxes-- and 30 percent of that was paid by people making over $100,000. After a series of tax cuts brought the top rate down to 24 percent, the federal government collected more than a billion dollars in income tax revenue-- and people making over $100,000 a year now paid 65 percent of the taxes.

How could that be? The answer is simple: People behave differently when tax rates are high as compared to when they are low. With low tax rates, they take their money out of tax shelters and put it to work in the economy, benefitting themselves, the economy and government, which collects more money in taxes because incomes rise.

High tax rates which very few people are actually paying, because of tax shelters, do not bring in as much revenue as lower tax rates that people are paying. It was much the same story after tax cuts during the Kennedy administration, the Reagan administration and the Bush Administration.

With conservatives growing increasingly distrustful of Trump, this smear against Walker will only continue to drive a wedge between Trump and conservatives going forward.

Please explain if you will just what a true conservative is?

Fair enough question. I tend to consider a conservative as someone who tries to govern in a manner consistent with the original intent of the constitution. And you are right, most (if not all) of the names on that list are not conservative by that definition.

And so, when looking at who to vote for, I try to figure out who is closest to that and is still electable.

On a zero to one hundred scale, with 100 being totally conservative and zero being totally liberal, I am seeing not too many folks above the 50 mark.

Really difficult decision here.

The Republicans just fully funded Obamacare, importation of limitless rapefugees, abortion, etc., and someone thinks bringing up spending is a good way to attack the only outsider and patriot in the bunch? With conservatives like our Congress, who needs liberals?

First we have to stop immigration and the treaties (aka trade agreements, like TPP.) These issues are intertwined with jobs. These are the only two issues, because if they continue, there will be no United States of America (though with Cruz there may be a North American Union---regardless, either way we are reduced to 3rd world wages and living conditions.)

Ted's TPA is just the start for treaties/agreements which provide for NO BORDERS in the USA and UNLIMITED IMMIGRATION from other countries (no work visa required). Accepting that, while criticizing Trump in Wisconsin, is like choking on a gnat while getting run over by an elephant.

This campaign is about one thing:

GLOBALISM versus PATRIOTISM

Has he gone bananas? It’s very possible since we’re living in a banana republic. Perhaps he has been a left-wing plant all along! I have been a Trump supporter from the get-go; however, this episode is over the top....or on the bottom with the other carp.

As I posted above, I did a "thing" for about a year and a half on state budgets and revenues.

It's REALLY hard to know who's telling the truth when it comes to budget numbers, because the truth doesn't benefit either side of the Uniparty coin.

I went and checked Wisconsin's numbers with my expertise, but I can't tell you if either Trump or Walker has the right of it.

Just realized this article is from one of the most anti Trump derangement websites run by Ben Shapiro. So it will go after Trump.

Did they hire Fields too?

We must first save our republic

I totally agree with you. That leaves us with the question if Trump is telling the truth, or is not really on our side. I do not see too much evidence that he is a truthful person. Exhibit A - his continuing lies about Walker and the budget.

I do freely admit that I love that Trump forced a significant change in the dialog. That was very healthy. Just don't know that I trust him.

A very straight forward question and I have not decided, but leaning against. It is very long winded, but in a nutshell, if my suspicions of Trump are right, conservativism would be killed by him as a movement and the republic is finished. But, if Hillary wins, we are finished.

So, the question to me really is, would I rather be shot or stabbed?

I was really hoping that Cruz and Trump would figure out a plan to move forward with some time of unity ticket and what I really want is Cruz for the supreme court, but I was informed yesterday by another Freeper that Cruz does not want that.

I voted for the Bushes 4 times and McCain, Dole and Romney once, I might be able to vote for Trump, but the only reason I would, would be for the Supreme Court pick...

Believe it or not, if Trump won and was a great President, I would love to eat crow on Free Republic and I would be the first in line to eat it...

We also need to do a better job at calling out these groups for thier hatred and intolerance. Demanding tolerance is in fact intolerant. They do get a bit pissy when you do that, though. Another favorite of mine with a lib in law is to point out the lack of diversity in same sex “marriage”. Having two moms or two dads is the opposite of diverse. True diversity is having one of each.

businessman who has a track record of actual accomplishment

We tried that one before. The religion purist wouldn't have any of it.

In a strange way, I actually think Romney was more conservative than Trump. But that is because Trump doesn't really score on any of the conservative measures, while Romney sort of, barely did.

Of course, he had none of the fight and Trump does, which what the biggest part of his undoing.

Funny you should mention TPP there. You do realize your guy went out and campaigned rigorously for TPA before he flip flopped. He co-wrote and article for the WSJ with..., let me see, who was it? Oh yes, Congressman Ryan. Have you heard of Congressman Ryan? He’s the new Leftist speaker that Cruz teamed up with. Here: http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/cruz-ryan-urge-senate-to-pass-fast-track/article/2563423

One might call Ted a militant RINO here if they weren’t biased.

Trump also gave $100s of thousands of dollars to Republicans, but that didn’t make him Conservative. Giving money to Democrats definitely makes him a Leftist though.

Ted and you folks, double-standards are your trade.

Trump said he would defund the abortion end of Planned Parenthood. I guess you missed that. Either that or you don’t mind shading the truth much.

You folks are stuck on stupid.

Quite a bit of polishing on your side too huh.

“A fraction of our taxes? Should the private sector control the Army, Navy and Air Force? Should the private sector run the Interstate Highway System?”

Is it that you don’t read very well, or did you deliberately misunderstand what I said?

At least a third of military spending is waste, fraud, and abuse. Another huge chunk supports a huge, counterproductive civilian bureaucracy. Add the Interstates to legitimate military spending and the other legitimate functions of government, and it amounts to a fraction of our taxes.

I suppose you expected to fail when it went into competition with the USPS.

That will be the end of true conservatism.

Bingo. Not that we aren't already most of the way down that road, with "compassionate conservative" being a self-inflicted wound.

Cutting taxes without balancing the budget was irresponsible. Walker had a lot of support when he wanted to rein in public employees pay. So what happened with balancing the budget?

LOL!

Well, I don't consider voting for Cruz to being like unto being shot or stabbed, so I guess I've got a leg up on you if Cruz is the Republican nominee, since I'll vote for him. :)

I'm only in it for Trump destroying the Media.

Anything after that is gravy, since the Media DeathStar will no longer be able to take out any conservative at will.

Yes we pay taxes and support defense, roads, proper limited government, etc.

We do not support the excess regulations, the micro managing of business by bureaucrats that have no experience, wasteful spending at all levels, the high 33% government overhead, the dictator like heavy handed rules and handing out lucrative contracts to relatives and friends (and donors), the excessive tax rates, government picking winners and losers in the energy industry, the government takeover of the health industry and western lands, etc, etc.

We do not support the handouts that the greedy demand.

We do not support out of control spending. We support competition among the states.

You know what this means. Both Walker and Sowell are now RINOs aka GOPe while Trump’s conservative credentials remain untarnished.

Ahhh doughie one, I did not call Trump a leftist, but why give money to Al "I wanna start a riot" Sharpton???

What influence does giving money to that scumbag give you and why would you want it???

Cruz has done somethings that I am very troubled by and you list some of them, so point taken. But Cruz stood up against illegal immigration and held it up while Trump was meeting with Dreamers. I concede that Trump has changed on that (and I really do think he has), but to what degree? There is nothing in Trump's background or personality that tells me he won't sell conservatives out. I think he knows how to sing our song until elected...

I could be wrong, dead wrong, but I think I am right and I know Planned Parenthood is scum and so is Al Sharpton, I cannot get over Trump defending / funding them.
