Its one of the most controversial things to say on Capitol Hill, sparking looks of shock and disbelief: The House majority is in play this fall.
For almost five years, ever since state legislatures and commissions finished drawing the new congressional districts for this decade, the Republican stranglehold on the House has been taken for granted because of the precise targeting that fortified GOP-held swing seats to seemingly withstand the toughest political climate. Even leading Democrats, just two months ago at their annual issues retreat in Baltimore, declined to predict anything close to winning the 30 seats they need in November to reclaim the majority.
Then Republicans started voting in their presidential primary, with Donald Trump taking a commanding lead.

Yep, and rather than realize the error of their ways, admit it, and seek to fix it, they are throwing a tantrum worthy of any 2 year old. But a lot more expensive, damaging, and consequential.
” I do not believe in a fate that will fall on us no matter what we do. I do believe in a fate that will fall on us if we do nothing.”
Are Obama and Mrs. Bill Clinton so unpopular that Republicans win control of the Presidency, the Senate, and the House?
Their corrupt elites or our corrupt elites... somehow it doesn’t seem to matter that much...
Don’t forget ammo. Buy lots of ammo.
TRUMP SO BAD REST OF WORLD WILL REVOLT IF HE WINS!!
TRUMP SO BAD DEMS WILL KNOW HOW CONSERVATIVES FEEL ABOUT OBAMA!!
OH,NOES, OH NOES!!!
Well the GOPee certainly doesn’t know what to do with it.
Johnson-Goldwater, Nixon-McGovern, Reagan-Mondale all come to mind. Not only the House, but many state houses are in play if Trump Ks the nominee.
“Whatever happens in the presidential election, the House will remain GOP.”
If Trump gets the most delegates and the convention gives the nomination to someone else, the GOP is going to lose the entire down ticket, not just the Presidency. The GOP will be dead, dead, dead forever.
Excuse me, but the nomination doesn't go to the person with the most delegates. It goes to the first person to secure a majority of the delegates.
Yes. I mean that is a TALL hill to climb ... but with Trump the House IS in play.
good point
Yep many here already blaming Trump on the GOPe/RNC failures and are aiding them that want the Republican Party so fractured it can't brush its teeth without wetting its pants.
They fail to mention all the polls about Trump alienating women are propaganda that really fired up when he commented that if abortion becomes illegal, then women who get abortions should be punished - something most self-touted conservatives should agree with. It also seems that the polls show him as the most disliked but also the one with over 52% willing to support him - pretty mixed up crap for some to rest their hats on.
Maybe so. But, do you want to return to full dem control both house & senate that gave us Obamacare, without 1 GOP vote?
No.
“Excuse me, but the nomination doesn’t go to the person with the most delegates. It goes to the first person to secure a majority of the delegates. “
Yep, and if a pedestrian is run over and killed whilst legally crossing a street without looking both ways first, they were totally in the right. But they are still dead.
Just like the GOP will be dead if they annoint a non-starter nominee, though, of course, none of the “rules” might be broken. Rules I might add that are 100% changeable at the start of the convention. Which really means there are no rules, just raw power politics in which what the rank-and-file GOP voters might want is 100% irrelevant. So, shall we find out what the GOP voters who are in open rebellion will do if the GOPe power elite anoint one of their own again? Shall we?
What if Trump fails to secure a majority on the 1st ballot...and the convention nominates Cruz on the 2nd ballot?
Where do you stand?
