All four early appointees to the rules committee for this years Republican National Convention told POLITICO theyre prepared to weaken or scrap a rule that could limit the conventions alternatives to Donald Trump.
The four took issue with a rule, originally imposed by Mitt Romney forces in 2012 to keep rival Ron Paul off the convention stage, requiring a candidate to win a majority of delegates in eight states to be eligible for the partys nomination a threshold only Trump has exceeded so far. If preserved, the rule could block John Kasich or Ted Cruz from competing with Trump at the convention, set for July in Cleveland.

Oh no we can blame Cruz and the GOPe that falsely supported him. Cruz has Zero chance of getting enough votes and the convention will never let him win.
>>There’s no way we can compete with hold the left has on the schools. It’s why Bernie the Commie draws tens of thousands to his rallies.
You’re right. When the Boomers are dead, the demographics will shift so far Left that there will be no coming back. The UniParty is insuring that the Millenials never have a real job or a secure career in order to keep them from thinking of themselves as a sovereign person.
Just how far off Politico’s reporting is:
Cruz is virtually guaranteed to meet that threshold. No-one besides Trump or Cruz can. So any move to change that threshold will mean that Cruz is no longer the only alternative to Trump. Naturally, the thought that Cruz’s people could want this to happen is ridiculous... which is why it won’t happen.
The rule will be opposed by not only delegates who support Trump, but also delegates who support Cruz.
Who benefits from this nonsense report by Politico?
Trump. A lot of people who might be inclined to choose Cruz over Trump may just vote for Trump over whoever else they fear might end up getting nominated.
Clinton. The more conservatives feel alienated from the Republican Party, the more likely they’ll stay home.
As an ardent anti-Trump/Pro-Cruz guy, this rule MUST stay.
It’s only fair to Lee the rule set which people have been running under since the start.
Sorry Kasich and GOPe, it’s Cruz or Trump... Anyone else, and your talking the collapse of the party.
Anybody see any delegates names on your primary ballot? Lying GOP scumbag. If Trump isn't the nominee I hope he runs 3rd party. I'll be done with the GOP in any case.
He can win with 3 candidates. If the Repubs try dirty tricks then they won’t get a substantial amount of votes and there will be Trump Democrats drawing voters from the Clinton Crime Syndicate.
Don’t just dismiss it out of hand, it’s possible.
Everywhere I go I see...bumper stickers. Wickedly good bumper stickers.
It was a mistake to adopt it in 2012, there's no reason to repeat that mistake now.
As opposed the the total number of members on the GOP side of the Isle, how many state delegations are a majority GOP, given that they only have one vote per state.
Not all of them. But Democrats are. He without a doubt lost the so-called women’s-rights women.
He already has a problem with women. Well, at least he sacrificed himself for a noble cause.
bkmk
I haven’t looked up the current numbers but GOP Representatives outnumber Democrat Representatives in about 35 states.
Something like seven states have only one House member,so that rep gets to make his own decision.
Swing state Florida’s US House delegation is dominated by Republicans, 17-10. Ohio by 11-4. Pennsylvania by 13-5.
This entire fiasco of a nomination process can be blamed. There’s plenty to go around. The Party looks like a joke right now. It’s a circus. It may end up creating a vacuum that will be filled by the devil we DON’T know, rather than the devil we do know.
So based on one state one vote in the US house of Representative in the event no candidate get 270 electoral votes, a Hillary (or Bernie) vs Cruz (or Kasich) vs Trump as independant, the GOP would win.
