ABC’s 'Quantico': Firearms a Privilege, Not a Right
newsbusters.org ^ | 3/28/2016 | Erik Soderstrom

In last night’s episode of Quantico, "Turn," before a terrorist attack against the FBI Training Academy has even concluded, a visiting senator (Marcia Cross) rails against firearms, declaring their use a “privilege,” not a right. At least ABC’s Quantico got it right about how quickly opponents of the Second Amendment rush to politicize any shooting.

Sen. Claire Haas: I'd like to acknowledge the brave men and women who defended our campus today. That includes one of our own -- trainee Perales. 330. That's the number of mass shootings in this country in 2015, an average of almost one per day. I am tired of this. And you should be, too. You are being trained to carry a weapon, to respect the power of a gun, to understand that it is a privilege to be earned, not a right given to anyone who -- Take the rest of the day off to process and recuperate. Remember why you're here, because though the horrible reality exists that there will be another mass shooting, soon all of you will be able to do something about it.

The senator’s comments come while at least one of the terrorists behind the heavily coordinated attack is still at large. Apparently, Senator Haas has also forgotten her oath of office, quickly casting off the Second Amendment as a “privilege to be earned,” rather than a right guaranteed in the United States Constitution.

LOL! The death throes of the broadcast networks. I’m loving their delicious tears as they lose market share. Here’s what I watch:

Sunday - Billions (Showtime) & Walking Dead (AMC)

Monday - Better Call Saul (AMC) & 11.22.63 (Hulu)

Tuesday - The People vs. OJ Simpson (FX)

Wednesday - The Americans (FX)

Thursday - Colony (USA)

Absent: Anything on CBS, NBC, ABC or Fox. Last thing I did watch on those networks was 24.

Quantico has it's problems, but it's ok entertainment.

House of Cards had an even stronger anti-Second Amendment message in its season four.

Any resemblance to FBI training and what you see on Quantico is accidental. They are there to train people, not put them through the FBI version of SEAL ‘Hell Week’. They need agents, analysts, etc, not what they are portraying.

Major TV, ALL AGENDA DRIVEN! Just crap with gratuitous violence and sex to get their agenda in front of an audience.

Ditto. I quit watching because it was immediately obvious that white WASPs would be portrayed and losers and every minority, alternate lifestyle, non-Christian would be the heroes/good people.

Broadcasting on the public airwaves is a PRIVILEGE not a ‘right’

TV and radio broadcasters already must be licensed to send material over the public airwaves. They must renew their license on a regular basis. That's why you see public service announcements; to prove to the FCC that they are serving a public interest and should be re-licensed.

At least that's the way it was back when I grew up.

***...a “privilege,” not a right.***

Spewing the same nonsense since 1968 when Bobby Kennedy was murdered.

Healthcare is a “right” but to keep and bear arms is not? I knew we screwed up when they stopped teaching kids how to read in school. Maybe we need an audio version of the U.S. Constitution on iTunes.

I have seen FReepers on here knock The People vs. OJ Simpson however I have been watching it and I do not see any agenda being pushed and it is trying to look at both points of view and is not P.C., I like it so far.

Maybe not.

Last week from out of nowhere the SCOTUS in "JAIME CAETANO v. MASSACHUSETTS" looked at stun guns, and in their UNANIMOUS decision, reaffirmed both Heller and McDonald.

I'm not saying everything is good, but this was one he11 of a surprise.

That main Indian female character is the only reason I may look at the show every once a while, she is cute, and between her and Megyn Kelly from Fox, I may choose the Indian lol.

The first couple seasons of Bones were really good. Pretty much everyone working in the lab had their own opinion on everything from the Iraq war, to the death penalty to Christmas.
I think the death penalty episode was really excellent.

I gave up on Quantico at the premiere episode when the theme seemed to be heading toward poor muslim candidate was set up as the perpetrator of the opening scene bombing. She would be spending upcoming episodes attempting to prove her innocence and find the real culprit.

Similar to the decline of interest in Fox’s 24. Each new season pointed toward a muslim being guilty, but ends up being falsely accused, when the real culprit turns out to be white Uncle Joe who went berserk.

I have actually been watching more on Amazon Prime than Netflix recently.

This week, AP got a dozen or so BBC/PBS TV series. A few weeks ago, they added a bunch of old (b/w, silent) movies.

You do have to be careful, however, as they add some soft-porn in their regular offerings at times.

Well, it is their “right” to watch it. Or is it a privilege? I’m gettin’ confusder and confusder. LOL!

I never even watched the first episode. A combination of the commercial made it look like it was more about pushing a diversity agenda rather than entertainment... then I read an interview that confirmed it was a deliberate focus.

They didn’t realize the irony of a white male christian hearing them proclaim that people want to watch shows about people like them...

A very pleasant surprise.

Assuming that the Ninth Circuit panel had accomplished anything in their quest to reverse the favorable Peruta decison, my guess is that they had to tear the whole thing up and start again.
