—Weapons were registered with the Department of Justice?—

That caught my eye also. WTF?
I agree with Laz...there IS something brewing.
We’ll see if this turns into something or not. Total speculation on my part but here’s what I think happened:
Gun owners in LA and Orange counties don’t have a lot of areas to go shooting. You either join a local club or you take a 1 1/2 to 2 hour drive out of the LA basin and into the Mojave desert to go shooting.
So these guys headed up the I-15 and probably stopped at the first area they saw was somewhat barren. Not having local knowledge they did not know this area is crawling with hikers and campers and started blasting.
Out here it’s not uncommon to see large groups of people shooting in what seems like an unorganized manner. San Bernardino is as gun-friendly as you get in California. So what you have is a bunch of dumb out-of-town gun owners who didn’t bother to research the regulations about shooting locations in San Bernardino County and scared the locals.
Laz, could you post some of the scanner chatter here?
(very bad hearing impairment plays hob with audio...)
In California? The only ones who have guns are gangs. Gangs don’t go camping dude.
Dispatcher: Go ahead.
Officer: You hear that?
Dispatcher: No.
Officer: Okay. Uh there was a large group of middle eastern males. They grabbed their things and started hiking and hiking away from the springs. They are winding up the trail towards the Bowen Ranch parking lot. Confirm still copy?
Dispatcher: Confirmed.
Officer: I hiked down and contacted citizens who been down there all night and they said all subjects armed with handguns. They were there all night. Chanting Allah Akbar type stuff. At one point they disappeared and started shooting long gun type firearms. However didn’t see. They’re headed up the trail, we’d like to get deputies to make contact if we can.
Dispatcher: Additional units did you copy?
Officer #2: Copy. Responding.
Officer #1: Deep Creek near the hot springs. large group of men wearing turbans and chanting.
Officer #1: You have people at the parking area?
Helicopter: probably 30+ individuals and 20+ vehicles in the parking lot.
Helicopter: They split into two groups. First group of 10 has stopped, waiting for second group of five. all carrying backpacks. Bulky items and clothing that can be concealing things.
Dispatcher: 10-4
Helicopter: they’ve all linked up. They’re on the move again.
Dispatcher: Copy.
Helicopter: Tight formation now.
Helicopter: We’re monitoring their progress. We might want to get a team to help us.
Officer #2: Copy. What do you Estimate ETA?
Helicopter: Under a half hour. They are about 2 miles. 20-30 minutes.
(Transcript made on the fly by me after one hearing)
No, that's California. Guns are strictly forbidden to the law-abiding. Mountain lions are protected, humans are expendable.
If that had been a pot plantation, the state would have arrested all the unarmed hikers.
What the heck does that mean? How or why do you "register a weapon with the DOJ?" Does anyone know?
Thanks in advance
Thanks in advance
Probably refers to California DOJ.
It looks like a Mossberg or Remington pump action shotgun with pistol grip.
Is that a water bottle
Or a drum fed device....?
Anyone make out the logo in its center.....Thanks in advance.
Many many thanks!
look like rubes
Yeah i saw that too. Can’t make it out. First glance is a piece of camping gear.
You’re welcome!
They were released?!?!?!
I’m beginning to be a little concerned about some of the news flashes on our site. Make sure you check them out yourself like the one about terrorists shooting at campers and hikers in California. Don’t panic before you get the full story. And the one about Miami dade airport being evacuated. It was very brief and the piece of luggage was safe. Just be cautious.
