Gunshots were reported in the U.S. Capitol Visitors Center on Monday, U.S. Senate sources said.
Workers in the Capitol were told to “shelter in place.”
A Capitol Police spokeswoman had no immediate comment but said the office would be issuing a statement soon.

It has happened before:
The United States Capitol shooting incident of 1998 was an attack on July 24, 1998 which led to the death of two United States Capitol Police officers. Detective John Gibson and Officer Jacob Chestnut were killed when Russell Eugene Weston, Jr., entered the Capitol and opened fire.

I live within 5 miles of the Capitol.
I can tell you that this didn’t rise to any real terrorist threat.
I would normally see and hear Air Force Jets and any number of military Helicopters traversing in and out of the city.
All has been quiet.
