Wisconsin-based 'Cheesehead Revolution' challenged by Trump
Yahoo/AP ^ | March 27, 2016 | SCOTT BAUER

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A trio of Wisconsin Republicans looking to inject the party with their own youthful, aggressive brand of conservatism ushered in the "Cheesehead Revolution." Their aim was to position the GOP for success in the 2016 presidential election.

Then came Donald Trump.

With the anti-Trump movement in full swing even as Trump solidifies his front-runner status in the presidential race, the focus turns to the April 5 primary in the home state of those three heavyweights: House Speaker Paul Ryan, Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus and Gov. Scott Walker.

They are trying to chart a course in the face of a revolt over Trump's rise and what it means for the future of the Republican Party — and for each of them individually.

Walker still hasn't endorsed anyone in the race, with Wisconsin's primary just over a week away. He told AP he sees Trump's popularity as an "an anomaly" that is overshadowed in significance by Republican success in governor's races and state legislative contests for years.

Walker's still in denial. What has all that success in governor's races and state legislative contests accomplished? Medicaid expansion in several of them, at a minimum.

Also, it's pretty ridiculous to cite the establishment reaction to the rise of Trump as the "revolt", when in fact, it's Trump that represents the Revolt. The knuckleheads Walker, Ryan, and the third guy are being reactionary, not revolutionary. What bias!

In years past, by the time the Wisconsin primary vote was made, the party elites had alreay anointed their middle of the road moderate, dem-lite candidate and our votes didn’t matter. Now comes Trump. He is beholden to no one. Cruz was my fav for a long time, but now that the GOPe have surrounded him with their fickle, let’s get Trump disgusting take-down attempt, I’m all in for Trump.

How DARE the DC clowns, come to us who have supported the GOP for years and once again tell us who THEY will allow to run for prez. How DARE they. Who’s with me?

I’m sick of making phone calls to the RNC, to the elected reps/senators - sick of being told to give us the house and the senate and we’ll stop the big kenyan O. Sick of the lies, sick of now finding out the IRS scandal, the e-mail scandal, the VA disgust, the never ending refugees, the payments for illegals to be here are all totally acceptable by the DC elites on both sides.

Dare we try to make a change? You want Ryan? You want Kasich? Pansy GOP that love their cushy millionaire jobs at our expense. Time to try something new. I’m willing to give Trump a chance. And for Wisconsin primary, the GOPe is trying ever so hard to kill off Trump.

What say you? Just asking.

I am.

We've been told for decades how we need to just hold our nose and vote for the 'good' of the party, yet all we get is more of the same.

I'm tired of it, dammit. It's their turn to accept our choice for a change.

My comment about Priebus may not have been classy, but the rest was very factual. Cruz is no outsider, and is the exact opposite.

Considering the perfidious nature of Priebus, please continue to defend him here.

‘Cheesehead Revolution’ seems like a pretty accurate way to describe this “movement”; certainly “conservative revolution” would be a laughable way to describe this trio of putzes.

Hi Freeper friend from the beautiful state of Wisconsin! I'm in the Sunshine State but have dear friends who live in Chippewa Falls, WI. They are Trump supporters and believe that although the race is close that Trump has a good chance of winning Wisconsin. Let's hope so! Please put me on your ping list as very interested on how things are going politically in WI.

I will do a WI Freeper ping here so other Freepers from WI might take you up on your request for replies. I hope all will listen to this interview from this morning. And Happy Easter Day to all!

If you lived in Wisconsin as I have, you'd know that Walker himself accomplished a great deal. End of Illegal alien instate tuition, end of rapacious state employee union controls, concealed carry, cut PP funding, cut property taxes, covered an inherited 3 bil deficit and mare it a surplus, mining opened up north, voter ID, freeze on state tuition, beating the national combined forces of the left in Madison and Milwaukee, getting almost all RINOs on board with his agenda in a purple state, reform of the GAB (used for illegal raids for political purposes) and much, much more.

Seeing the ads this week. Argh! Anything from Cruz or Kasich is only focusing on stopping Trump! How about saying why I should vote for you based on your qualifications/positions etc?
Hillary is her usually lying self and Bernie actually sounds good.
I will be going to vote for Trump and Bradley this week. Not holding my nose, either.

I agree. Walker is a terrific governor. He had the dems reacting like all the #neverTrump people for a long while. They were seriously losing it.
I prefer to see Walker stay in Wisconsin. The one Wisconsinite I would like to see in the new administration, would be Sheriff Clarke. He can help Trump take names and numbers.

What do we get with Trump?

Democrat lite? Or really just another Liberal who tries to sound like a conservative?

Will he keep his promises? His off the wall comments indicate that he probably can’t do legally half of what he has promised.

Why does he bad mouth his opponents and their families? Trump has a significant problem with women voters. Just wait until the democrats and media expose Trump.

Trump can’t win in a 2 man Republican race!

Trump can’t beat Clinton? He is just the foil so that Hillary gets elected.

While I am disappointed in the Republican party, the Republican party is less evil than the Democrat party. America will not survive if we giving giving the DP the reins of government.

We need a leader like Walker, Cruz is the best bet.

If Trump is the Republican nominee, I will vote for him, but I expect him to lose. And I don’t expect him to solve our problems. We need to reduce the size and spending of the federal government and allow the states and local governments to compete and reduce regulations. We need to control our government and stop the corruption in all levels of government.
