Trump says allies must start paying for ‘American protection’
NY Post ^

Posted on 03/27/2016 7:38:46 AM PDT by bryan999

Donald Trump wants US allies to ante up if they want to continue under the “cloak of American protection,” according to his first detailed comments on his foreign-policy platform.

“We’re not being reimbursed for the kind of tremendous service that we’re performing by protecting various countries,” the Republican front-runner was quoted as saying.

Trump said he would boycott oil from Saudi Arabia and other allies unless they provide troops or funds to fight ISIS.

“If Saudi Arabia was without the cloak of American protection . . . I don’t think it would be around,” he told The New York Times.

And if they refuse to pay?

What happens if you refuse to pay your electric bill? The same thing applies here.

Trump can’t think more than one step ahead on anything.

Ok Einstein let us know when you build one of these things that takes 5 to 10 years to complete from initial negotiations to ribbon cutting.

What do you think will happen if Putin or China offers protection for free?

Surely you jest?

Most Countries KNOW that you do NOT get something for NOTHING.

The U.S. gives money freely.. then steps in at strategic points and manipulates the situation under the guise of being a "friend."

In many cases, a "friend" is the last thing we are.

We can not even take care of our veterans. Why should we give money to countries which have people there who burn our flag? We need to take care of this country first.

Trump direct quote: “We have no money for education”

I’m interested in how many conservative Trump followers think there is no money for education? Are you one of them?

Trump: We need to divert monies for the military to schools in Brooklyn.

He’s your man. Do you agree with Trump or not?

False choice. We can take care of our veterans AND have a strong military presence in the world. Trump has a very small view of what we can accomplish as a free country.

Did Reagan withdraw from our alliances? Would weakness and isolation have brought down the USSR?

Your choice: Regan’s way or Donald’s way. They are quite different views of USA’s role in the world.

And what happens when Putin or China offer to provide the same protection for “free”.

Trump can’t think more than one step ahead on anything.

Then they will go bankrupt instead of us. Perhaps though, they’ll make they countries they ‘help’ pay for their ‘free help’ in ways that will be a marvel to watch.

As a dependent of a career officer I remember quite well how how the people of the various nation’s he was assigned to welcomed our dollars and wished us to go far away at the same time.

Hey genius, I work in engineering and construction. I know exactly how things get built. A money man (like Trump) hires engineers and architects and project managers and they get it done. The money man obtains financing and (apparently in Trump’s case) bribes the unions and public officials to make sure there are no “bumps” in the process.

The money man plays a minimal role in design and construction. It’s akin to ordering a car from the car company. The guy with the money gets to pick which model car, how big it is, the interior details, and what color to paint it. The money man has know idea how to design or build a car and could not do it on his own.

There are thousands of buildings around the work like Trump tower, almost all of them not built by Trump. Are you saying the thousands of money men who built those buildings are good candidates for president?.

There is nothing special in Trump’s background as a developer that qualifies him to be president. You appear to be infatuated with those giant gilded letters that Trumps puts on his building. I am less easily impressed.

So, you’d rather have schools built & blown up repeatedly in Saudi Arabia rather than have the money available for our own needs?

Do you want to shift money from the military to projects in the inner city?

Trump does.

Is the problem with America that the Democrats who run the inner cities don’t get enough money?

Trump thinks so.

I much prefer Reagan’s foreign policy to Trump’s.

“South Korea has a defense budget of about $33 billion U.S. dollars which is about 3% of their GDP. How much of that does the U.S. pay? “

I could care less. We should be paying NOTHING of it.

Guess reading comprehension wasn't taught while you were pursuing your engineering degree. Trump wants other countries paying for the security they get from us. Let me make this simple for you:

Say it costs the US 5 million dollars to protect Saudi Arabia. Where does that money come from? The US taxpayer. In order to fund that and also fund school rebuilding, the taxpayer must pay more taxes. Following me so far?

Trump's scenario - We charge Saudi Arabia even 3 million dollars back for said protection (we'll still contribute some US Tax $$$). That gives us that 3 million to spend on schools with no increase in taxes.

His scenario doesn't take any money at all from the military budget and we get both covered!!!

What makes Donald Trump different? Decades of experience and success. He learned the business from the ground up, including the nuts and bolts side of it. Don Jr. is a pretty damned good engineer himself; he didn't fall off the turnip truck knowing how to build things; he learned from his father, as Donald learned from his father. Donald Trump is a symbol of American success, very few money men have their own Boeing 757.

Relax. You suggested Trump lacked planning skills. I disagreed and referenced a building project which requires planning (more so than making a pizza).

I completely agree. Free FMS (foreign military sales) technical support to allied air forces never should’ve happened. I say if they want technical support, they can go negotiate contracts with Boeing and Lockheed. I’ve dealt with FMS, they are the biggest pain in the a$$ ever. You give them a technical solution on a one-day turnaround and no cost to them and they’ll move heaven and earth to prove that you’re screwing them. They are the worst whiners. I’d even volunteer to deliver the message to each country’s representative—by attaching it to a rock and throwing it through the front picture window of their offices.

If I were king for a day, there’s a thousand different ways I’d cut their freebies.

We should not give as much money to them, though. We are not the world’s police. Many countries hate us anyway so why waste money on them. Trump has said he wants a stronger military so other countries will think twice about attacking us. It was a far different world when Reagan was President. There were very few terrorist attacks. Now, I think this country will be attacked worse than before and we are in no way, prepared.
I think money given to some countries is being used for terrorist activities. We need to take care of this country first. Our veterans, and many are homeless, need to be given the care they deserve. It is a disgrace the way they are treated. Why are we giving more money than our share to these groups? Why, when this country is trillions in debt? Let others give more. We are broke. This is an entirely different period in our history. That is what Trump was talking about. We need to let others do more.

....”Trump can’t think more than one step ahead on anything”....

He’s a perfect example of why a businessman should not be President....his understanding of Foreign relations is all about money when there’s a whole lot more entailed beyond revenue.
