I don’t now about you, but I’ve found the Republican race a bit of a disappointment until now. Sure, there was the enjoyment of mud-wrestling “debates,” the spectacle of Trump-derangement syndrome, but where was the sex scandal?
And when we get the sex scandal, it’s about Ted Cruz!
Still, beggars can’t be choosers. The scandal, such as it was, has been floating around for a least six months. That’s when a reporter (not from the Spectator) called to ask if I knew anyone who could confirm the story. (As if I’m supposed to know this stuff.) I told him I didn’t and that the people I knew wouldn’t want to touch it, even if they knew something about it.
Now the story has gone public, thanks to a muck-raking journal that as it happened also outed John Edwards. And everyone is wondering whether the story is true.
Except me. Because I don’t much care if it’s true. Given Heidi, I wouldn’t blame Ted. After all, she apparently refuses to live with him. And given Ted, I wouldn’t blame Heidi.
Novelists will sometimes mention some little incident that doesn’t really move the story line, but which nonetheless matters. The little incident that sticks in my mind is the story that she once ran out of the house and was found on the side of the highway by the police, who thought her suicidal. What sticks in my mind is that Ted hadn’t followed her.

The story has been shopped to several news outlets for months. None could find any confirmation of the allegations so they didn’t publish it. The Enquirer has no such standards, but even they report it as a rumor.
I think they will tread that line carefully because in this case, malice is attached. The Enquirer has endorsed Trump and is doing this to harm Cruz.
The focus on this incident really gets my goat. Any grown woman who hasn’t found herself setting by the side of the road with her head in her hands either literally or figuratively at least once has lived a very blessed and sheltered life.
I find the assumptions people make about this incident unkind, insensitive, boorish and sometimes the height of stupidity.

Apparently for years they lived apart, during this time Ted was allegedly chasing the ladies.

There is also the issue of hypocrisy. Trump never claimed to be morally upstanding on sexual matters, whereas that has been a centerpiece of Cruz’ campaign, with his focus on evangelicals, etc.
I hate hearing the slime too, but all in all, I’d rather know it than not, if for no other reason than, once it is out, it gives one less area on which a politician can be blackmailed in the future.

Good point. For example, I have wondered about A. Merkel’s reasons for destroying Germany. Is she insane, a closet Muslim, or is she being blackmailed? Maybe somebody has photos of her at an orgy or a Satanic human scarifice.

With Merkel, I could believe it. There are various necked youth photos of Merkel out there. Quite the non-conformist. Of course, I could also believe she is a KGB plant from the former DDR.

Cruz denied the accusations. I believe him until FACTS change. If this goes away next week then there was nothing to it.
