Is Conservative Talk Radio Losing Its Influence?
WNYC ^ | March 25, 2016

Posted on 03/26/2016 6:42:55 AM PDT by kevcol

Ted Cruz has few friends on Capitol Hill, and the establishment is starting to line up behind him to take out Donald Trump.

Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush and South Carolina Senator Lindsay Graham have endorsed Cruz, and Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker and Florida Senator Marco Rubio have hinted that they also might come along.

Cruz's base of support comes from conservative women, educated evangelicals, older voters and nationally syndicated conservative radio talk show hosts. Mark Levin and Glenn Beck have endorsed him, and he gets strong support from Rush Limbaugh.

Though Cruz has a friend in right-wing media, Donald Trump is still winning. Is conservative talk radio, once a powerful force in Republican politics, losing its influence? For answers, we turn to Darryl Parks, a media consultant and former talk radio host.

I din’t read the article.

I was a big Rush fan until the 2012 election. I tuned out at that time because it seemed no progress was being made to influence others outside the conservative echo chamber.

Yes, it has lost influence.

Beck is a nut.
Levin is a shill for Cruz.
Rush lost his edge years ago.

They are irrelevant.

I liked Cruz until he started jumping on the media bandwagon to attack Trump. I don’t like that Cruz was echoing the MSM that Trump was somehow responsible for the Chicago thugs at his rally.

I also think that Cruz started the wife attacks by taking about Malania.

It never had any.

Or else Clinton would have been a one-term president.

“Is conservative talk radio, once a powerful force in Republican politics, losing its influence?”.....

Not for the lack of trying.

Trump is not really a Republican. Many of his followers are other than Repub or Conservative. He also has more liberal type Repubs. Thus it makes total sense that he would be in the lead. Has nothing to do with talk radio.

I have a brother and his wife who have been Dems their entire life and have changed voter cards this year so they can vote for Trump. They know he is not a blue blood Repub and so they can vote for him without problem. They want no more to do with Obama/Hillary/Marxist/Muslim leaning people in Washington.

I gave up Medved years and years ago when it became obvious he was a propagandist for The Cheap Labor Express.

More recently I gave up listening to Glenn Beck, although it was before he started his anti-Trump looniness, he had become too loony in other ways.

Sadly, the one I have dropped most recently and the one I have listenedto the longest, since 1991, is Rush.
I stopped tuning in when he went full retard telling us how conservative Amnesty Boy was when it was plainly obvious that Rubio would not conserve the rule of law or the nation.

Conservative talk radio has been rehashing what the problems are for 30 years. Doing something about it? Zero. The great placation machine.

Likely because it’s getting same-old same-old. Beck is a nut. Hannity is about as interesting as a parrot. Rush is a bit like the Uncle who tells the same stories every Thanksgiving, really phoning it in.

The only guy I like is Phil Valentine, he’s amusing and enjoys himself.

Internet is killing talk radio.

Who really wants to listen to give minutes of talk, followed by ten minutes of commercial?

I get my info from FR, Drudge, and other sources.

That’s his appeal. Trump is not a blue blood.

I don't know about anyone else but I'm sick of watching these radio hosts shift their support. It's becoming obvious that they were never down the middle, they have no respect for their listeners unless they agree totally with them. I haven't made up my mind yet but I have made up my mind on some of my former favorite radio hosts.

Michael Medved gets turn off immediately, with Hugh Hewitt right behind, it's laughable listening to him say he hasn't taken sides and then tries everything in his power to humiliate any caller who supports Trump. If you don't have respect for the people who listen to you, get another job. People have a right to their choices and the superior attitudes of these creeps turns me off completely. We made them, we can break them, but they are too cocky and sure of themselves to realize it.

Savage was a breath of fresh air but it appears even he received the anti-Trump memo from corporate.

I think it is a positive reflection on the independence of voters and the ability to garner information from so many sources now. This is a good thing. I don’t think Cruz supporters are less informed, I think we all have personal trust factors involved in our decision on who to back. We are mostly all good people on the same side of the issues.

The author misses the point of many talk hosts.

They love the fact that Trump has punched the Media and the GOPe in the mouth, but that does NOT translate into support for Trump as the nominee.

Many are trying to remain neutral, but some listeners don’t accept that, if they hear their guy get criticized.

It has for me when they keep sowing the seeds of a republican defeat. What they and the pubbie establishment are doing is suicidal.
