Pennsylvania delegates will go to convention "uncommitted"
email | 3/24/16 | PA GOP

Posted on 03/24/2016 6:40:12 PM PDT by JonPreston

It’s not winner-take-all. It’s not winner-take-most. It’s not even proportional.

The vast majority of Pennsylvania’s Republican delegates are technically “unbound” or “uncommitted.”

Used to be they all were, but this year party rules changed slightly, making 14 “at large” delegates bound to vote for the winner of the PA Primary, but on the first ballot only.

There are also three “automatic” delegate slots for the state party chairman (Rob Gleason), the National Committeeman (Bob Asher) and National Committeewoman (Christine Toretti).

The remaining 54 delegates, elected by Republican primary voters in each of Pennsylvania’s 18 congressional districts (three per district) remain legally “uncommitted.”

They are not bound to vote for any particular candidate and are free to exercise their own judgment in selecting a nominee.

That means there is no guarantee – whatsoever – that the majority of Pennsylvania’s delegates will go with the winner of the Pennsylvania primary.

In short, Donald Trump could win the popular vote in Pennsylvania but lack the organizational infrastructure to fill a slate of delegates who support his candidacy.

You seem really, really happy that a candidate could win a state in a landslide and not get any delegates from it. You Cruz people are great supporters of Hillary.

Most delegate predictions take this into account and trump still gets enough delegates.....barely. But barely is ok with me.

I sure hope those delegates have a LOT of money for lawyers, if they try double-crossing Trump...they may well need it!

By next election the GOPe filth will add ‘super-delegates’ and we'll never have the vote again. It'll be a sham like every other hellholr in the world.

I hate these people. I hate what they've done to our country...

Starting to seem unlikely that Trump will be able to pull this thing out in light of rule changes like this.

This is based on the rules as they have existed since the beginning of the campaign. No change involved.

Wow....What’s the point in even having a primary?

Just starting to figure that out now? I think I started seeing it when W refused to lock down the borders after 9/11. He could have and nobody would have given a peep of opposition... Instead we got PATRIOT, free drugs for the old people, and a couple of wars that the folks in DC refused to win. And a pile of steamy horses-—t about the “religion of peace”.

The fact that they don’t want Cruz as President either!

There are many delegates running. I did find one declared for Trump. Yes, he could change his mind.

Has anyone polled the candidates for delegate?

Here’s an idea:
If Trump comes up a little short, put a Pennsylvanian on the ticket. Toomey? Santorum? Schweiker?
It might actually work this time.

Was it Mencken who said if voting could change anything, they wouldn’t let us do it?

He might have but I have been using this quote for years.

If voting made any difference they wouldn't let us do it."

Wow....that’s just too bad for Trump. :o)

No, it is too bad for the Nation and those that reside in it.

Do we know if Trump has made any effort to get his own delegates on the ballot?

You mean the good old fashioned way, Bribe them?

What evidence do you have that they won’t?

Experience.

Two candidates for GOP delegate in the 1st District dropped out leaving only three candidates in your district for the 3 slots.

Christopher M. Vogler
Seth Kaufer
Dave Hackett

Are they for Trump, Cruz etc. who knows?????

Get on Trump’s website, get in contact with the Trump campaign so they can tell you with an email if these people are worth voting for on election day.

In my district, the 4th, there are 15 to choose from for the three slots.

The campaigns got people to run for delegate under this system and they know who their people are, if any.

I was asked by the Cruz campaign to be a candidate in my congressional district, but I decided against it.

Contact Trump’s campaign, get on their email list.

All Cruz needs to do is beat Trump by one delegate.
