People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is appealing to President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama to “hatch a new tradition” at the White House Easter Egg Roll — by doing away with the chicken eggs used as part of the festivities.
“Instead of using hard-boiled chicken eggs — which took chickens 34 hours to lay and which are slated for use in this year’s egg roll, egg hunt, and egg decorating station — will you please accept a donation of plastic eggs and ceramic EggNots for use in the event or just switch to them?” the animal rights group wrote to the first family in a Tuesday letter.
ADVERTISEMENT PETA said that “in gratitude for your compassion for chickens,” it would provide a vegan scramble for volunteers at the March 28 egg roll “in place of the scheduled chicken egg breakfast.”
The annual egg roll on the White House’s South Lawn is a tradition dating back to 1878.
“Using cruelly obtained eggs from female chickens who will be killed when their egg-laying usefulness ends and who are exploited because of their sex is arguably inconsistent with the goals of the 2016 ‘Let’s Celebrate!’ theme,” PETA President Ingrid Newkirk wrote.
The White House announced the theme of the springtime event last month “to honor the final Easter Egg Roll of the Obama administration.”
Newkirk said in a statement the organization is calling on the Obamas “to consider making their last White House Easter Egg Roll the kindest one in U.S. history.”
A PETA spokeswoman tells ITK that the group has not received a response from the White House.

Do they still go.out of their way, to make sure they have homosexual parents at the Easter Egg Roll??? What about Muslims??? Any other quotas they make sure they fill to prove that Obama celebrates diversity???
