Republican presidential candidate Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX)is being accused of lifting a line from 1995s The American President while defending his wife Heidi following a Twitter bout with frontrunner Donald Trump.
Responding to Trumps warning to Cruz to be careful after an anti-Trump super PAC used a photo of Trumps wife Malania posing nude for GQ in 2000 in an ad in Utah, the Texas Senator initially responded by calling Trump a coward.
Trump wrote on Twitter on Tuesday: Lyin Ted Cruz just used a picture of Melania from a G.Q. shoot in his ad. Be careful, Lyin Ted, or I will spill the beans on your wife!
Cruz later responded: Pic of your wife not from us. Donald, if you try to attack Heidi, youre more of a coward than I thought. #classless.
Cruz then told CNN Wednesday morning, If Donald wants to get into a character fight, hes better off sticking with me, because Heidi is way out of his league.
The New York Daily News is accusing Cruz of borrowing the line from the Michael Douglas film The American President without giving it attribution.
In the film, Douglas, who plays American President Andrew Shepherd, warns Sen. Bob Rumson (Richard Dreyfuss) to leave Annette Benings character, Sydney Ellen Wade, out of a political dispute.
You want a character debate, Bob? You better stick with me, cause Sydney Ellen Wade is way out of your league, Douglas says in the film.

What would you call a campaign ad showing your wife naked?
Don't bother telling me Cruz didn't bless that ad. At best you can say his new owners forced it down his throat, and that he's not making the calls anymore.
Either way - not impressive for a man who, unlike Trump, has built most of his campaign on what a fine moral specimen he is.
I think it probably made him sick ... but ... Ted is changing, or being changed, or maybe there was no need for him to change and it didn't make him sick. He might just be weak.
Trump pretends no such purity.
You and many others here have blasted Cruz AND his wife because she works for GS. Her office happens to be just a few blocks from Trumps office on Wall Street.
That’s ok.
Pointing out that Trumps wife is a nude model and was born and raised in a former Soviet block country is wrong though.
Despite the fact she’s campaigning for Trump.
Well at least you have double standards.
Decency? You’re defending a nude model based on decency?! Unfriggenbelievable
These pictures weren’t private or stolen. They were published in GQ magazine after she posed for em.
Get real
Apparently it was only one of the views.
I think the fact that she posed for GQ nude would bother me. I’d kind of expect the opposition to use public pictures of that nature against me in a campaign.
That’s just odd that anyone would be expected to give attribution for a common saying.
The phrase “out of your (my) league” is as common as “spill the beans”, maybe more so in this day and age.
The fact that you take such interest in the story shows you not only to be petty, jealous, and vindictive, but also something of a self-righteous, whiny voyeur.
‘What would you call a campaign ad showing your wife naked?’
From the pro Cruz anti Trump faction?
Par for the course.
BlackFemaleArmyCaptain claims to be a Christian. I take her at her word. As a Christian, I expect her to promote truth. It is good that she is pro-Trump; I encourage her to promote him with words of truth. But she has a record of promoting him by denigrating other candidates with lies and smears and innuendo.
The articles that she shares here:

... and the comments that she leaves here:
http://www.freerepublic.com/tag/by:blackfemalearmycapta/index?tab=comments
... are pretty much mostly attacks on Cruz, attacks based on lies and misinformation.
My comment to her was in that context.
BlackFemaleArmyCaptain isn’t stupid. She *knows* that quoting from a movie isn’t plagiarism, she *knows* that Cruz didn’t insult Trump’s wife, she *knows* that Cruz didn’t cheat in Utah, she *knows* that Cruz didn’t blame Trump for the Brussels attacks, and so on. And yet she is driven to dismiss truth and promote lies in an effort to support her candidate.
Again, let’s promote our candidates with truth, for God’s sake. Let’s not rely on lies to diminish our political opponents.
I don’t see the lies you claim to be there.
Also, there are plenty of folks posting pro-Cruz or anti-Trump articles here who support your comment.
Unless you want to fill out a Butt-Hurt Form, you really need to stop clutching your pearls.
Welcome to the world of politics.
My comment lists some of the lies she’s been promoting:
She *knows* that quoting from a movie isnt plagiarism, she *knows* that Cruz didnt insult Trumps wife, she *knows* that Cruz didnt cheat in Utah, she *knows* that Cruz didnt blame Trump for the Brussels attacks, and so on. And yet she is driven to dismiss truth and promote lies in an effort to support her candidate.
I’m fairly certain that you can’t read minds.
I’m giving her the benefit of the doubt. In my previous comment I wrote, “BlackFemaleArmyCaptain isnt stupid.”
Of course she isn’t stupid. Anyone can see that.
You claim to be a human being, but you hate me because I’m a Black Female Army Captain. The evidence is clear. Look in the mirror, you lying hypocrite.
Such hatred, from someone I assume to be a sister in Christ.
This election doesn’t seem to be good for your spirit.
She posted an article, Theo.
So, it is not her making a lie, or something you think is a lie, it is the AUTHOR of the article.
But you called her a liar, and not the author.
That is just plain wrong.
“But you called her a liar, and not the author.”
Not sure I did or not. My initial comment has been removed.
