“It’s amazing to me how any clear minded, sober person can take the temperature of the country in 2016 and genuinely beleive that Ted Cruz can be elected to the presidency.”

Rush is without a doubt, a very smart person, but he’s long since become disconnected from the common people. He hasn’t taken the temperature of the country, because he doesn’t lower himself to frequent places like Free Republic and other online forums.

He seems to be quite a bit conversant with what his fellow elites in the MSM are talking about. When he gets a caller like Clay, is it any wonder that he goes into a mini meltdown of shock and disbelief? He simply can’t fathom the minds and perceptions of those who’ve put Trump in the winning position in this race.

You’d think that someone as astute as Rush, would recognize that there’s a genuine people’s revolt against the Republican political establishment, and that his favored candidate is on the wrong side of it.

By turning today’s show into a three hour campaign commercial for Ted Cruz, he’s signaling that he stands foursquare with the GOP establishment.

I will, tune back to Rush, once we get into April, the primary season begins to slow down and towards the end of it at least.

You may have hit on something.
He’s a bit paranoid about Beck for numerous reasons I could go into. I have caught him copying beck numerous times maybe that’s what this is all about.Beck can’t get ahead of him is he is copying him.
Add in his brother and Levin and you have enormous pressure on him,all self inflicted, to shill for cruz.

I actually did too. Sometimes it takes more energy than it’s worth to listen.

It just might be that he knows trump will win and if he is to appease his brother, levin and maybe others, as well as keep beck at bay in his mind, he has to shill for Cruz.
Its a contorted view but it just could be.

Of all the pundits who believe their opinions make a difference, Limbaugh may be the most self-invested. Add to that, the possibility that he may genuinely prefer Cruz (and three weeks ago, maybe Rubio), and BAM - he's in the cohort of pundits he was diagnosing.

We all have blind spots. He may be in one himself.

If I had to guess I doubt he cares about the specifics of any of the candidates. I think hes only concerned about wining and the part he might play in winning.
I think the Cruz thing is all appeasement of certain people in his life.

He once talked about how hard it was to be deaf in a society and especially when you are a talk show host. He also mentioned how deafness affected his relationships. He did not elaborate. He then apologized for saying this, as he expected people would think he was just complaining.
Rush has taken a lot of verbal abuse in his life for his views. Maybe, he just does not have the ability to handle it anymore.
He is attaching all sorts of labels to Cruz, that he once attached to himself.
To me, he is flaming out, as in burn out.I am saddened to see this.
I started listening to him in Sacramento CA in 1988 and was a long time listener.

It’s exhausting to listen sometimes, b/c Rush really seems to struggle with how to approach straddling the fence with Cruz.

I imagine it’s a difficult job to do in beating back all the yapping dogs coming from every direction. Be nice to Cruz, be nice to Trump, be nice to Rubio, Bush, etc—

We know David Limbaugh is a huge, huge, huge Cruz supporter, as are many of Rush’s colleagues. Imagine what they likely say in private! if what we get in public is so nasty! It could only be worse.

ps: At least we have some names now inside the RNC to know who is conspiring with the anti-Trump cabal - thanks to Politico’s article today, starting with Sean Cairncross, meeting with that big ass Grover Norquist+others.

Sean is probably going to be sorry he took the role of conspirator, on.

-- If I had to guess I doubt he cares about the specifics of any of the candidates. --

I dunno. He seems to have a heart, and he revels in politics. Hard to not have a favorite. I'm cynical and nonchalant in the extreme, and I have a favorite.

-- I think hes only concerned about wining and the part he might play in winning. --

That was a quality he attributed to the "wet behind the ears" pundits too, those who are looking for career advancement. They become invested in their role as influencing the way people view issues and candidates. It's exactly the same role Limbaugh sees himself in.

-- I think the Cruz thing is all appeasement of certain people in his life. --

That could be. I believe he is a good actor, and able to disguise and hide certain parts of himself. Part of the acting job is to convince the audience that you are always genuine.

It’s hard to lose a friend. And Rush has been an important friend for a long time. It’s like a death. And so the five stages of grief apply: Denial, anger, bargaining, depression, acceptance. I’ve gone through it myself. It takes a while before you get to number five. I’m not sure I’m there yet. There’s an undercurrent of anger by feeling betrayed by someone who was so trusted and now doesn’t mind lying. He seems to have thrown his values to the wind. I only check into this thread to see what’s going on. Don’t listen any more. And yes, from all the posts it’s clear the situation with Rush is still bad and getting worse. And oh it’s getting so booooorrrring.

I’ve wondered if there isn’t a personal problem of some kind in the mix. Sooner or later that will hit the fan. Very sad.

In the meantime, there’s this, snipped from Politico http://www.politico.com/story/2016/03/trump-sean-cairncross-rnc-221166

“Many of those there to hear Cairncross are seeking out ways to defeat Trump at a potentially contested Republican National Convention in Cleveland, going so far as to consider imposing rule changes at the convention that would hamper Trump’s ability to secure the nomination.

Those familiar with Cairncross’s remarks say he spent much of the time laying out the process of an open convention, complete with detailed explanation of the state-by-state rules for allocating delegates. He was careful, they say, to appear fair and impartial in his remarks –”

(Now we know who at the RNC, will be sacrificed if things don’t go well for the contesting-Trump crowd)

“Rush has gone full Baghdad Bob for Cruz today”

That’s a chuckle. Thanks. I’m enjoying some of the humor in dealing with Rush’s bizarro behavior.

I feel like this.
I have lost a great friend in Rush.
Concern for me is that he appears to have lost himself.
We may never know why.

Keep wondering if his staff knows Rush has gone complete Captain Queeg. Do they roll their eyes in silence to keep their paychecks? I’m sure they know something’s amiss.

That is what I am doing. I turned Rush off months ago. I just read this thread to see what is being said.

“I’m lost too. I’ve been a diehard Rush supporter since tuning him in back about 1991. I listened every day, bought his books, subscribed to The Conservative Chronicle, American Spectator, National Review, etc. When his newsletter became available, I subscribed to that and also 24/7. I’ve let them all lapse. Even bought his tea. Now as we stand on the precipice of a national voter revolution, Rush takes up the side opposing us. I cannot forgive him for that. He isn’t stupid so I have to arrive at the conclusion that he is not one of us but rather one of them, the despised political elite. It all makes me sad.”

That’s exactly the conclusion I came to. I stopped listening to him the day Obama won his second term, and have only recently turned on his show again from time to time - the guy I hear now isn’t in any way the guy I’d been listening to for twenty years. He sounds disorganized, confused and intellectually dishonest.
