Jeb Bush's endorsement of Texas Sen. Ted Cruz Wednesday morning signaled a growing inclination in the oft-touted Republican establishment: that even Cruz would be better for the party than Donald Trump.
Leaders in the GOP have long and openly mused that neither of the primary frontrunners fits the bill of an ideal Republican presidential candidate, but the race has failed to yield any alternatives.
"It's a signal that there's only a plan A and a plan B," said Mark Jones, a political scientist at Rice University's Baker Institute. "There is no plan C."

Conservatives have made everyone on your list very wealthy. I ask what for? So they could sell us south like the sheep they think we are.
Save the spin.
Embrace the Gope as brother Ted has.
Are you trying to say you are ashamed of this?
Why does the media think this is a big deal???
JEB couldn’t get 5% support...He is just another Bush as is the black sheep one named Neil...
This is not important only in the eyes of the GOP leaders that are trying their damnedest to make Trump disappear..
NOT GONNA HAPPEN FOLKS...TRUMP IS #1
I suspect that this dooms Cruz. He’s being endorsed by the folks he is supposed to fight against...
Cruz was surely not any of these endorsers first-choice. Trump has pushed the party dialogue to the right on immigration and border control and national defense. Cruz has pushed the party dialogue to the right across the board. THese are good things. I happen to be wary of Trump’s protectionist views on trade, but that’s for another day.
All those people you listed are Republicans. WHile I disagree with each of them about many issues, I recognize that the Republican party is a mix of different factions who unite together to win elections because we have enough in common.
Would Fiorina be my ideal choice for any office? No. Did I vote for her for Senate here in CA? Yes.
Is McCain my ideal choice for any office? No. Did I vote for him instead of Obama? Yes.
Did Cruz promise to change his position on ... pick something ... border enforcement... his tax plan... to get these endorsements? If yes, then I am unhappy. If no, then I recognize that he is helping move the party to the right and I am pleased.
Thanks for your advice. Can you name a policy position that Cruz has changed to gain this endorsement? I haven’t read that yet, but perhaps you know.
I am currently supporting Cruz, and Bush was far down the list on my preference list from the original list of candidates. Probably above Graham and Kasich, and that’s it.
The Bush Family is only interested in The Bush Family.
Jeb wants back in and probably wants a VP slot.
The last straw was when he blamed Trump for the violence at his rallies. These establishment endorsements have confirmed to me that I made the right decision.
Any support he is gaining from these endorsements is being significantly offset by us former supporters who are now seeing the light.
Cruz has no agenda other than being the Not Trump. He is no longer running on anything else.
With the GOPe’s hooks in his operations, he is just there to sop up delegates so Trump doesn’t get them.
I wonder if Mork Levin will be saying nice things about Jeb tonight? Who am I kidding, of course he will.
the putrid stink of warmed over Bush is now overwhelming.
The Bushes and all the Stealth Bushes must be uprooted root and branch.
Exactly! If I were Cruz I would feel like the guillotine just fell on my campaign!
more to the point re what it signals, Cruz is now exposed as one of them
cruise: last hope of the globalists.
Win or lose Cruz is in for a big let down from the elites. It couldn’t happen to a more deserving guy.
oh yeah, Cruz should say DON’T VOTE FOR ME... the idiocy of the tRumpery is astounding
FU20years
ymmv
They will likely be dictating terms and policies.
...oh yeah, the guys that Ted called liars on the Senate floor and fought at every turn, are going to dictate to him if he is President!!! such is the non-thinking of tRumpery losers on FR, beam me up Scotty, there is no intelligent life left here....
ymmv
“How long until the first suggestion on this thread that Cruz has now moved to the GOPe instead of vice-versa?”
Ted has publicly welcomed all of his recent establishment endorsers. He is openly accepting the support of people whom most of us agree, are the enemy.
If you’re comfortable with Ted welcoming such a heinous cabal of allies, so be it, but most conservatives see it as betrayal.
“FU20years”
That was really nasty, and uncalled for. 20years wasn’t even addressing you.
