I find it an interesting comment on character when Trump complains about the Pope commenting on his faith, but then he turns around and questions other people’s faith.

He says the first thing he thinks which gives one a clue as to how his mind works.

It's fair game to question anyone's faith, and, when you do that, you put yourself up for judgement about whether you're being sincere in that questioning or not - whether you're just going for political points.
For the Pope to go after Trump, is to try to score political points for the left. For Trump to go after Romney, is to score points for his campaign, which in his mind is to benefit the right. Same thing - right?
Absolutely not- because the Pope has no place sticking his nose in this, and it's right that he got it punched.
But questioning someone's faith? Of course it's fair game - people lie about their faith and use it all the time for social advantage. Trump actually hasn't used it that much - he let's his pasts speak for itself, good or bad. What's not fair game (actually it's fair, but lame - nothing is really 'unfair') is a Pope sticking his nose into our politics. That's what was really noxious about it, not the questioning of the faith. Trump was right to swat him down. If Mitt wants to swat Trump back - let him find a way.
This is war, but it's not the lefty Pope's war. It suggests he doesn't have a full grasp of his own faith or worldly role.
Trump is just taunting - and who knows - maybe a significant number of Mormons find Mitt to be a phony - practicing the outward rituals but not with God in his heart. He certainly appears to be not all that much more than a goody goody - often those are the worst religious fakes. Often they don't realize it.
I have no way of knowing that Mitt is actually with God, or just pretends to be, or thinks he is but isn't. Usually it's the 3rd category that cause the most damage.

The Pope did not personally attack Trump. It was the media which misscharacterized the popes response and Trump found out about it but used it anyway.
Thousands including many Catholics thought they were responding via Trump in effect telling the pope to go to hell . But it was intended and used, as a left handed Trump endorsement. which the media not Trump engineered and Trump after learning the facts should have apologized and condemed this, instead used it.. Pope Francis responded to accusation loaded questions by a Reuters news agency reporter and did not believe those accusations. So the pope never mentioned Trumps name . Here in abstract; replied using the term One, to generalize his example and began with; If actually one said and continued with : One does, one did, one believes :It was meant to be a generalized position applied to anyone when answering the questions that were presented to him .Yet the US media turned this statement vy Pope Francis : Those that only focus on building walls and not bridges are not Christian. into: Those who build walls not bridges like Trump are not Christian. Turning a generalized position into a personal attack by no less the pope If they voted that way because of that reason They were mislead by machinations of the media not rejection of actions voters thought were made by the pope.
Trump makes up his own rules to benefit himself as he goes along. Look at his threats to take FOX journalists to court for “defaming his character” and compare that with his constant rants about “lyin Ted” which he continues in this interview.
