Arizona's primary is Tuesday, but more than half the ballots have already been cast including for candidates who've left the race.
By the time Ted Cruz arrived Friday at the tiny border town of Douglas for his first Arizona event of 2016, he was already too late for the hundreds of thousands of Republicans who had already voted.
Election day is still two days away in Arizona but well more than half of Republicans expected to vote in the states Tuesday primary have already cast their ballots complicating Cruz's attempts overtake Donald Trump as both make a late push for the states lucrative, winner-take-all prize of 58 delegates.
A candidate cannot win Arizona if they dont do well in early balloting, said Nathan Sproul, an Arizona Republican strategist who had served as co-chair for Marco Rubios campaign in the state.
Arizona has among the most robust early-voting programs in the country. In Maricopa, the states largest county, early voters in 2016 comprise already nearly 90 percent of the countys total GOP turnout four years ago.

Cruz, the latest tool of the GOPe. Cruz would seem, his soul to the devil to be President. Oops he already sold his soul to MConnell for TPA, to run for President and the Corker bill.
God is answering your prayers Trump! Thank you God for answering my prayers. I even prayed at Palm Sunday mass this morning. I am glag you are praying for a strong leader too. Nobody stronger them trump. God’s been good to us this primary.
That tactic sounds sort of familiar. I know I've heard of it somewhere before.
You’ll stand in line for hours to re-elect President trump in 2020.
Bullshit. If no one liked or trusted him he wouldn't be getting any votes.
“Bullshit. If no one liked or trusted him he wouldn’t be getting any votes.”
Oh, there is always a fringe group. Regardless, his allowance will still be kept under tight control by his superiors.
I hadn’t thought about that, but now that you point it out...
I was in the Army 50 years ago. There were lines everywhere we went. I will no longer stand hours in line for anything.
They're the ones reading James Madison instead of Saul Alinsky.
OK, I’ll give you that, but you’ll still mentally support his re-election, even if you stay home.
Guess what - If Trump is the nominee, up to 40% of the GOP would stay home or vote 3rd party - so I guess Trump has managed to screw the country either way.
“This is the little nugget in all the crap polls of X vs. Clinton. If Trump supporters are disenfranchised by the convention, it won’t matter if the nominee is Cruz or Romney. The Republican nominee would be lucky to draw 40% in the general, meaning a huge win by Clinton, which I’m sure the Establishment is well aware of.”
EXACTLY!
He fasted on over to every fast food joint he could find.
Exactly what best describes beck.
If Trump had a supporter that made comments like this, they would be crucifying him on top of all the other BS they've been crucifying Trump and supporters for.
Ted certainly has gotten a lot of passes.
+1
HERE/S CRUZ/S BIG BUCK DONORS--the Washington Cartel he swears he/s running against.
——They certainly do not give money to the losing team——
now that is a great thought
the losses thus begin to compound
“They’re the ones reading James Madison instead of Saul Alinsky.”
No, they are the ones thinking that Seven Mountains Mandate Dominionism can be reconciled with the Constitution. And now, apparently, the “White Horse Prophecy”.
