7 Potential Running Mates for Donald Trump
abcnews.com ^ | March 19

Chris Christie

In an announcement that surprised almost everyone, Christie endorsed Trump in February.

As Trump’s running mate, Christie could be an effective attack dog against Hillary Clinton.

A Trump-Christie ticket would also reinforce the narrative that both men are tough Washington outsiders who “tell it like it is.”

Rick Scott

When he ran for Governor of Florida in 2010, Scott self-funded his campaign and spent upwards of $75 million of his own money.

Scott, who recently called for his fellow Republicans to “coalesce behind” Trump, could help the New York billionaire in Florida -- a key swing state.

Scott’s personal wealth, career in finance and governing experience could also be a plus for the ticket.

Ben Carson

Carson could energize Christian and evangelical voters to turn out for Trump.

Carson first came to national attention in 1987 when he successfully separated conjoined twins. In 2013, Carson’s conservative critique of health care in the United States, standing near President Obama at the National Prayer Breakfast, brought him back into the national spotlight. His own presidential campaign also boosted his profile.

Jeff Sessions

Jefferson Beauregard Sessions III has been active in national politics since before Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz graduated from high school.

Prior to his election as a senator 1996, Sessions served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Alabama and later was appointed by President Reagan to be the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Alabama in 1981.

Sessions’ experience in the U.S. coupled with his expert knowledge of foreign policy could ease voter concerns about Trump being too inexperienced on matters of national security and how to work with Congress.

Chris Christie for AG.

Trump gave it away when he said Chris was a great prosecutor.

Tim Scott

Nope...junior Senator doesn't have the experience or dare I say "gravitas" to help Trump in bringing down the GOPe...

Nor does he have the foreign policy experience needed to counter Hillary in a general...

Foreign policy is Trump's biggest weakness by a long shot...

I can hear the political ads " Who do you trust in dealing with China, Russia, North Korea, a guy who rents space to the Chinese or a former Sect. of State...

Sessions would be the man...

IMHO..... Scott Walker

He got out to take care of business he was elected to do.

Rubio and Cruz simply collected their paychecks. Those are reeeeeeally big welfare checks.

Sessions would be an interesting choice ...

A question for the board ...

Since Trump would certainly mix things up across the government, doesn't it make sense that the role of the VP would redirect under a Trump presidency?

A VP seems to be a figurehead in the shadows (bar the Senate responsibility which is important) ... perhaps some of that would change.

I always thought McCain should let Palin go solve the countries energy problems as a sort of 'energy czar' (hate to use the term but you know what I mean).

I think Jim Webb, recently retired one term VA Senator and 2016 Democrat presidential candidate would be a great choice. He is a highly decorated Marine and former Sec of the Navy under Reagan.

He was given the bum’s rush by the Democrat Establishment prior to the first primary and has publically stated that will would never vote for Hillary Clinton.

I heard someone mention Kasich yesterday. Oh for heaven's sake, why are we rebelling? Kasich and his ilk are the reason Americans are rebelling.

Ben Carson..... Carson could energize Christian and evangelical voters to turn out for Trump.

I don't think so, not as VP... by Carson supporting Trump now, that sends a message to Christians and evangelical voters that Carson Christian principles are not that deep...

Being a Christian and evangelical voter myself, it moves me zero...

ABC News probably isn’t a great source of advice.

Yabbut. Like many other formerly questionable sources, nowadays that depends on whose whistle they are tooting.

Reality? Between two candidates, they account for about 75% of the vote, just off the top of my head, and about the same proportion of delegates, and despite some hefty smears of late, are the two outsiders. If not for the latest vitriol, the unifying force is obvious.

“Megyn Kelly, Carly Fiorina, Nikki Haley, Joni Ernst, Mia Love, Meg Whitman would all appeal to a different demographic and add balance.”

Megyn Kelly?!

Good post. I choose Rick Scott because he has experience across business and government. He’s the man.

“Forget the RINOS

REAGANS biggest mistake was George Bush”

The one time Reagan doesn’t listen to Nancy was on this. She was all in for Jack Kemp. Would have changed history if Kemp had served two terms after Reagan.

Of course, plenty of my fellow Freepers would be all over him today as a RINO too, particularly on immigration.
