Religious liberty’ bill jeopardizes Atlanta Super Bowl bid

If Georgia chooses to turn the “religious liberty” bill into law, be prepared: Atlanta may not get a Super Bowl. That was the suggestion from the NFL on Friday when the league released a statement in response to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s question about whether the league had any position on Georgia House Bill 757. The statement from league spokesman Brian McCarthy reads, “NFL policies emphasize tolerance and inclusiveness, and prohibit discrimination based on age, gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, or any other improper standard. Whether the laws and regulations of a state and local community are consistent with these policies would be one of many factors NFL owners may use to evaluate potential Super Bowl host sites.” Falcons owner Arthur Blank has hoped to land multiple Super Bowls in the team’s new stadium, which is scheduled to open in 2017. The NFL has previously moved a Super Bowl from Arizona to the Rose Bowl near Los Angeles in the 1992 season after that state refused to recognize the Martin Luther King holiday.

No difference in hotel occupancy rates, restaurant attendance, airline arrivals, etc.

Are you saying that the price of a hotel room in a city hosting the Super Bowl is no higher than it would be on any other weekend?

Interesting - The NFL did not make any threats when the star quarterback in Georgia had dog fights - I guess it’s just what you think is really important!

Everyone is acting like this bill will “establish” freedom of religion, we’ve had that right for over 200 years.

If we’re going to pass a plethora of new laws to reinforce the original intent of the bill of rights, and to counter the liberals’ interpretation of it, then we’ll be pretty busy.

This wouldn’t be a problem if we had judges who defend the constitution, not make it up as they go.

Insofar as the Super Bowl goes, I wouldn’t pay the price, or fight the crowds for it. You can see the action on TV much better anyway.

“What happened??”

We listened to the echo chamber and told each other we had nothing to worry about.

Meanwhile, the Left rolled up their sleeves and set about the hard work of bringing the country around to their side.

It’s a cautionary tale - we can lose ourselves in talk radio and Fox and Breitbart and forget that they only see us as consumers to be pandered to. While away in our complacency while the Left is busy working. We can’t afford to make that mistake again.

The bill doesn’t jeopardise anything. These people are liars.

The Big 12 is threatening Kansas City over a similar piece of legislation; pass the bill and we may never see the Big 12 tournament again. I’m sure the NCAA will get around to threatening loss of March Madness games for both KC and St. Louis.
