EXETER, N.H. - Wise-cracking funnyman Al Franken yesterday body-slammed a demonstrator to the ground after the man tried to shout down Gov. Howard Dean.

The tussle left Franken's trademark thick-rim glasses broken, but he said he was not injured.

Franken - who seemed in a state of shock and out of breath after the incident - was helped back to his feet by several people who watched the tussle. Police arrived soon after.

"I got down low and took his legs out," said Franken afterwards.

Franken said he's not backing Dean but merely wanted to protect the right of people to speak freely. "I would have done it if he was a Dean supporter at a Kerry rally," he said.

I think the point is that Franken did that to a heckler, he wasn’t rushing the stage and endangering Howard Dean.

I voted for Ted Cruz on March 5th and he won my State of Maine. But now I’m getting really pissed off at the way that not only the establishment but Cruz and the other candidates are laying this stuff at Trump’s feet. It makes Trump look strong and the rest look limp-wristed weak.

I think Cruz should be Attorney General this time around... he can try for the top job next time if he can get the Justice Department properly fumigated and reverse the damage done there.

No, you did the right thing. Getting that liberal mess all over your car would’ve just killed the resale value.

It makes Trump look strong and the rest look limp-wristed weak.

That is the reason for the shift to Trump, everything the rest do IS weak and limp wristed, except when they parrot his remarks, which most see through.

Sometimes I think Altura is a Trump mole, because nobody could be as annoying as he is, and think he is winning people over.

Franken is one of those epic dooshbags that would benefit greatly from being kicked in the head.

With an axe.

That’s an interesting theory. There must be a lot of Trump moles among the FR Cruznadians, because a lot of them are like that.

i don’t remember so much violence during primary campaigns before this one, do you?

Actually, I remember lots and lots of times lefties have shouted down and disrupted conservative rallies and speakers. Usually, we just mind our manners and let ourselves get bullied.

It will be an ice-cold day in Hades before I vote for that clown Trump, but it is about time we stopped letting the left disrupt legitimate efforts to have a political discussion with their so-called "protests".

The truth is that simply removing disruptors one by one isn't a deterrent, because they end up accomplishing their objective at no cost to themselves lves except bragging rights at the local coffee shop. So a few good hard shots are well-deserved as far as I'm concerned.

Civility must be a two way street.

Very classy of you not to mention the spelling.

Dragging out a 12 year old story plus the “oh yeah, well Reagan did it too” meme belies desperation. They know their guy’s on thin ice morally but can’t quite admit it.

Amirite?

Kind of interesting to see the (almost) universal condemnation of Franken's actions by...Freepers. Shoe is now on the other foot and, well, so apparently are a lot of Freepers.

Here's the original FR thread from back in 2004.

Will CNN, FOX et al, spend the next week on this, with interviews of the victim, call for criminal charges, and call for the governor to apologize or resign?

That’s right, after reading altura raving about Trump for months, I have decided to vote for Trump. It was altura who really convinced me.

Thank you altura!
