Republican presidential candidate Sen. Ted Cruz (R., Texas) said Friday night that primary frontrunner Donald Trumps campaign is responsible for creating an environment that encourages violence after a Trump rally was cancelled because clashes broke out when protestors entered the event.
Speaking at a press conference, Cruz told reporters he thinks a campaign bears responsibility for creating an environment [of violence]. When the candidate urges supporters to engage in physical violence, to punch people in the face, the predictable consequence of that is that it escalates.
Cruz warned that violence will likely continue to take place at future Trump events, citing an incident in St. Louis earlier that same day when at least 32 people were arrested after attendees at a Trump event clashed with protestors.
Thats not how our politics should occur, Cruz said. It is my hope that in 2016 we can appeal to our better angels [and] avoid going down that road once again.

Wearing your pink tights today Timmy?
Trump created Soros, MoveOn, Bernie Sanders, and BlackLivesMatter?
That’s crazy.
My first thought was - no, we can’t let them win by intimidation.
However, if Trump let the rally go on as scheduled and a big riot occurred, and people are hurt, he will be crucified by all.
Either way he loses to the left/radicals.
However, he did the right thing in protecting his supporters. See! the people’s well being trumps his own interests!
Hopefully, the rational people will win in the court of public opinions, and the thugs will be put in their place.
Transcript of Ted Cruz: Donald Trump is Responsible for What Happened in Chicago! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pmxBp4IFe_I
... be here and energy were seeing on the ground at the grassroots enthusiasm. What were seeing were seeing republicans unifying behind our campaign. Were seeing republicans coming together. This race has become a two-person race between me and Donald Trump more republicans are unified behind our campaign.
And I also want to mention something about the events this evening. This is a sad day. Political discourse should occur in the country without a threat of violence. Without anger and rage and hatred directed each other. We need to learn have disagreements without being disagreeable. To have disagreements while respecting human being on the other side.
Earlier today over 30 people were arrested at one rally and then tonight as violence broke out the rally was cancelled altogether.
Now responsibility for that lies with protesters who took violence into their own hands.
But any campaign responsibility responsibility starts at the top. Any candidate is responsible for the culture of the campaign. And when you have a campaign that disrespects the voters, when you have a campaign that affirmatively encourages violence, when you have a campaign that is facing allegations of physical violence against members of the press, you create an environment that only encourages this sort of nasty discourse.
(reporter question - not clear)
I think that decision should be based on public safety.
But I think it campaign bears responsibility for creating an environment. When the candidate urges supporters to engage in physical violence have punch people in the face the predictable consequence of that is that it escalates and today is unlikely to be the last such instance. We saw earlier today in St. Louis over 30 arrested. Thats not how our politics should occur.
You know the city of Chicago in 1968 saw some ugly days when politics descended into hatred and instability and even violence and it is my hope that in 2016 that we can appeal to our better angels avoid going down that road once more.
Since you didn't provide a source, I don't know when or where he said that.
However, that is a complete contradiction to the TITLE OF THIS THREAD--- Cruz: Trump Campaign Bears Responsibility For Creating Environment Encouraging Violence
Do you agree ?
Trump should have gone into the MoveOn.org ambush so there could have been chaos, people hurt and/or killed by the mob. Right?
Earlier today over 30 people were arrested at one rally and then tonight as violence broke out the rally was cancelled altogether.
Now responsibility for that lies with protesters who took violence into their own hands.
Well said, Ted.
Cruz devoted one sentence to blaming the rioters in STL and CHI, and two paragraphs to blaming Trump for creating an environment. The rioters were not spontaneous, they arrived with a plan to prevent the Trump rally from occurring. They succeeded. They succeeded via intimidation and violence. THEY created the environment. THEY ALONE bear the blame.
Cruz saw an opportunity to smear his opponent and lost sight of reality.
so you condemn me for standing against free speech, while condemning my freedom of speech...
you sir a hypocrite along with being unamerican
ted handled protesters by inviting them to speak and shut their arguments down...
violence begets violence... your man is all talk apparently since he let them cancel his event.
cruz said that in the video you keep referencing as to what cruz said...
i support your right to argue, but please know what you are arguing about.
You as a uniparty supporter are full of crap. Cruz had someone question him hardly a protester. Guess you would have enjoyed seeing the police and others injured yesterday? Look what the BLM and commies have done to Ferguson and Baltimore. You are a sad one like the liar you support.
When your campaign is sucking wind,, you tend to say things you wished you hadn’t. Ask Lil Marco.
Exactly. He said the responsibility was on the protesters, now he says it's not the fault of the protesters, but the fault of TRUMP.
I don't think you know what you are arguing about, based on your response.
Did CRUZ contradict himself, between his original statement in the video, and him now stating it's Trump's fault ? Yes or No ?
GTHTC!!!
Really? With RevCom instigating this and all the Black Lies Matter thugs there, you’re whining about Trump’s “leadership ability.”
UN frickin believable!
