There are only a few days left for Republican bed-wetters to stop Donald Trump from steamrolling his way to the presidential nomination via Florida and Ohio, and if Thursday nights CNN Republican Presidential Debate is any indication, its not gonna happen. There was one moment that went largely unnoticed, though, and it perfectly demonstrates why hes winning.
It came about an hour into the debate, as Ted Cruz was launching into one of his patented Eighth-Grader-Reciting-His-Book-Report-As-Though-Its-A-Shakespeare-Sonnet routines about how ideologically immune he is to special interests, a linchpin of his appeal, when Trump casually destroyed him. The key here is not what Trump said, but the way Cruz literally throws up his arms in surrender when hes done:
CRUZ: When I went to Iowa and campaigned against ethanol mandates, everyone said that was political suicide. You cant take on ethanol in Iowa. And my opponents on this stage not only didnt do the same. They attacked me and even promised to expand corporate welfare. If were going to stop bankrupting our kids and grandkids, youve got to be willing to take on the lobbyists
TRUMP: if you look back to Iowa, Ted did change his view and his stance on ethanol quite a bit. He did and at the end. Not full on, but he did change his view in the hopes of maybe doing well. And you know, I think everybody knows that. It was a front page story all over the place, and he did make a change.
BASH: Senator Cruz?

4. Ted Cruz is a Constitutional conservative who is for amnesty, and whose wife is for open boarders and the North American Community.
No Thanks.
Yeah that bum probably donated to Hillary for President too,and Harry Reid For Senate,and John Freakin Kerry!
What next he probably buys someone else’s water,steaks and puts his name on it and sells it in his Hotels and rips everyone off!
Whats the descriptive word Im looking for: sophomoric? over the top? flailing? annoying? just stop?LOL! Sometimes he looks like his left hand is stuck in his pocket while he's leaning forward waving, flagging, flailing his right arm around.
...as Ted Cruz was launching into one of his patented Eighth-Grader-Reciting-His-Book-Report-As-Though-Its-A-Shakespeare-Sonnet.
I stopped reading after that
Short memories. Trump said he wanted to expand ethanol subsidies in Iowa, Cruz would eliminate the crony payments over a 5-year period. It makes one wonder if Trump is serious about shutting down the Dep of Ed or other DC agencies if he wouldn’t even end the corn lobby slush fund.
LOL
Cruz doesn’t run casinos that use vice as a means to extract millions from people trying to get lucky and frequently ‘host’ prostitutes from those willing to pay to get lucky.
But hey, he doesn’t drink, smoke, or take drugs.
Trump also lied on the Ethanol Standard and EPA- Said he'd use EPA to enforce higher Ethanol standards in Iowa, but, in Nevada said he'd get rid of EPA.
Part of the deal with Carson was to get some free ‘scrips for Xanex.
If you think his position on ethanol is based on “Big Oil” money you really need to get out more.
Using food for fuel is stupid, inefficient and harmful to both the economy and the engine in your car.
Even greenies should have a problem with it because it’s worse on pollution than gasoline.
The subsidies are pay for votes subsidies and need to go away.
Peeps like you would attack Jesus if he was running against trump.
Cruz actually has a very distinguished career defending your rights.
Your candidate? Not so much.
Never been to a casino, or bet on the Kentucky Derby or a football game? My oh my, how snow white pure you are. Suppose you don’t dance or play cards either!
it is sad...almost as bad as Breitbart, which has gone totally off the rails.
“So the voters in Texas rejected Cruz since more voted against him than for him. I seem to recall him, or his campaign, using that logic against Trump.”
Interesting article here. A win is a win, but this is weak:
Oh stop. Last night you know Cruz lied especially when he said trump is for the Iran deal. Every function trump has he says he hates it. Cruz at least can’t be obvious with his lies.
>>>Cruz got 1,239,370 votes but that/s only 44% of the vote-—he would have needed to reach 50% to get every delegate according to Texas/ convoluted rules. He got 102 delegates. <<<
Over 70% of GOP votes in Texas were cast for someone OTHER than Trump. And that was with plenty of Dems voting in the GOP primary - a 100% increase in voters from 2008. Multiple outlets breathlessly predicted that Cruz was in trouble, and would likely lose in Texas. Talk about moving goalposts.
It takes Trumpian imagination to spin what happened in Texas into a negative for Cruz. Now, since he did not win over 50% in Texas, its somehow perceived as a negative? So let’s see if we can apply some commonsense.
#1 - There were 14 options on the Presidential primary ballot in Texas - which has early voting so many were still viable choices when the early votes were cast;
#2 - Cruz won 43.75% of the total vote, beating Trump by almost 500,000 votes - (1,239,158 to 757,489);
#3 - Even setting Cruz votes aside, more votes were cast for ANYONE other than Trump - (837,154);
So, in the most important, and reliably Conservative state in the Union, Trump managed a PALTRY 27% of the vote, and that was WITH significant Democrat crossover votes. Maybe the NYC progressive is not as popular with grassroots Conservatives as the media would have us believe? Perhaps Texas voters rightly discerned that progressive reality tv stars are not much different from radical community agitators?
As a Trump supporter, I would be concerned if he wins the nomination. How many of those Dems will stay with Trump and not turn back and vote for the hand that feeds them? How many Christians and constitutional Conservatives recognize that there really is little difference between Trump and Hillary, as they were ideological twins until Trump decided to run as a Republican and campaign as a Conservative, and will simply choose to sit another election out? Why should they support yet another progressive, especially a NYC values crony capitalist like Trump who has bought and sold political influence for decades? You can’t get much more establishment than that. I mean seriously, how many Conservatives talk about LGBT special rights, making deals with Democrats, or how awesome Planned Parenthood is? If any of those were important to Conservatives, they would vote for Hillary who is a far better leftist.
I would stop worrying about the past, and get concerned with the harm a Trump candidacy might do down the ballot in November. Its a very real concern. It would be nice if Trump supporters would care a little more about the direction of the country, rather than putting a crown on The Donald’s head. It makes little sense to destroy Conservatism just so your guy is the last one on the island.
I agree. He also made it obvious, once again, that trump has no idea whatsoever what his positions would do, or even if they are possible.
“I’ll do big things” is great until someone asks you what big means.
Trumpets need to find change, any change in Cruz to excuse the daily changes by Trump. Not one of his disciples will look up the “change” by Cruz, it is enough that Trump has decreed it was a change, because they know Trump never lies, well at least not to them...
Not really. Yes, Rubio rattled off a list of great things as preconditions for making any deal. Raoul Castro will never come to the table if those are the pre-conditions.
Honestly, there are worse actors in the world that we're happy to do business with. Does Saudi Arabia ring any bells.
