Raleigh, N.C. — Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Hillary Clinton have sizable leads in the presidential race among likely North Carolina voters a week out from the state's primary, according to a WRAL News poll released Tuesday.

SurveyUSA polled 1,555 likely voters statewide – almost evenly split between Republicans and Democrats – between Friday and Monday to gauge opinions leading up to the March 15 primary. The survey has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.8 percentage points.

Trump tops U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas 41 percent to 27 percent among likely GOP voters. U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida and Ohio Gov. John Kasich trail far behind, at 14 and 11 percent, respectively.

The billionaire businessman Trump, who is scheduled to hold a rally in Fayetteville on Wednesday night, outdistances Cruz across almost every demographic breakdown, with huge leads among male voters, older voters, the working class, gun owners and those who never went to college. He also has a surprising 42-31 percent advantage among self-described evangelicals, a group that has boosted Cruz's candidacy in other states.

Cruz, who spoke at a Raleigh-area church on Tuesday, holds a narrow lead over Trump among GOP voters who say they are part of the tea party movement, and the two men are tied among voters ages 18 to 34.

Trump’s a populist/nationalist & after the last 30 years of so-called free trade & endless immigration which has crippled wages & replaced a good amount of the voting American public with third world leftists should anyone be surprised by this uprising ?

Not only that, we've set up the political guillotines, bought our knitting needles and yarn, and have our folding chairs ready to set up so we can watch the show as Rove and the others are shorn (oops, Great Spirit already scalp Rove) and forced to climb the scaffold's stairs.

Oh but you know second place is really winning this primary season you silly person. I have been told that numerous times by Cruz supporters. Actually it does follow Americas trend of not winning anymore. Mediocrity is now winning. No wonder GOPe is all in Cruz’s corner. God help us.

Trump 2016!

Man, I hope this poll is right. I’m from North Carolina and I can tell you that this state is not as red as it used to be. Like Virginia, I would say it’s more of a purple state. The Triangle, Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area, is very liberal. Hopefully, they will crossover and vote for Mr. Trump.

Like Tourette’s syndrome, these outbursts about the CFR and Goldman Sachs echo the way the lefty’s responded to anything you said with “Halliburton” and “Bush lied” over and over and over again. All nonsense.

Then Cruz has to capture over 92% of the Kasich and Rubio voters in order to get over 50%.

Conversely, Trump only has to capture 36% of their votes to get over 50%.

And even if all of them go to Cruz, NC is proportional, so he’ll only be 5 delegates at most up on Trump anyways.
