Russia warns North Korea over threats of nuclear strike
The Guardian (UK) ^ | March 8th, 2016 | Chad O'Carrol

Russia has warned North Korea that threats to deliver “preventive nuclear strikes” could create a legal basis for the use of military force against the country, suggesting that even Pyongyang’s few remaining friends are growing concerned about its increasingly confrontational stance.

The Russian foreign ministry statement, which follows a North Korean threat to “annihilate” the US and South Korea, also criticises Washington and Seoul for launching the largest joint military drills yet to be held on the peninsula.

“We consider it to be absolutely impermissible to make public statements containing threats to deliver some ‘preventive nuclear strikes’ against opponents,” the Russian foreign ministry said in response to North Korea’s threats.

“Pyongyang should be aware of the fact that in this way the DPRK will become fully opposed to the international community and will create international legal grounds for using military force against itself in accordance with the right of a state to self-defense enshrined in the United Nations Charter,” continued the statement, translated by Itar Tass news agency.

Anytime we can get someone else to do dirty work that needs to be done without cost to American taxpayers of spilling of American blood it is a good thing.

We aren’t the woe;d’s sole superpower we can’t afford to be. The Chinese and Russians can carry some of the water of keeping the little sh!ts in line.

I have a contrarian view - I think North Korea is a bigger problem for China. Do they want a nuke-armed Kim regime on their border? 400 miles from Beijing Los Angeles is 8000 miles from Beijing.

Likewise Kim knows - who is more likely and capable to organize an internal military coup against Kim? The USA? or China?

Russia and China are backing away from the Norks and that has me worried that they know something we don’t.

The North Korean regime is skating on thin ice as their attempts to seal their borders from the influence of defectors and a growing appetite for black market Western media and goods is eating through that nation’s foundation of repression. Alienating China and Russia emphasizes Haircut Man’s level of desperation. I’m thinking a military coup in the near future by generals who have watched their high ranking colleagues getting shot in the middle of the night because of their Dear Leader’s paranoia.

Nice assist by the Russians.

It's a matter of proper diplomacy, stability and common interests.

North Korea could start to develop like South Korea if the psychotic chia pet and communists were put out of power, but it needs to be done with as little destabilization as possible.

Would not be surprised some day in the future to read the morning news item about 100 PLA divisions crossing the Yalu River and driving on Pyongyang to get rid of the rat that runs NK.

Russia and China couldn’t care less if US interests, or even US territory, were nuked. Not at all. Obama has proven to be impotent and as a result America has lost prestige and respect. Where do countries go for help now? China and Russia. Who will Japan seek defense from? An impotent Obama or a powerful Xi Jinping or Vladimir Putin? If the survival of your country is at risk no one in their right mind would ask Obama for help.

"no one in their right mind would ask Obama for help"

Correct, except for the Muslim Brotherhood, ISIS and Iran.

But he's gone in 9 months.

Nine months.

Isis, Iran, Castro, and MB didn't have to ask for help. Obama gave it to them for his own glory.
