President Barack Obama will not attend Nancy Reagan‘s funeral this Friday, keeping his originally scheduled appearance as a keynote speaker at the South by Southwest (SXSW) Interactive festival. First Lady Michelle Obama, who is scheduled to speak at SXSW on Wednesday, will attend the funeral.
“The president will not attend” Mrs. Reagan’s funeral, White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest told reporters Tuesday. “The president is actually traveling in Texas on Friday.”
The SXSW Interactive Festival is an annual symposium for digital startups and emerging technologies that takes place each year in Austin, Texas, concurrently with a film and music festival.
According to SXSW’s website:
[The president] will sit down with Editor in Chief of The Texas Tribune Evan Smith for a conversation about civic engagement in the 21st Century before an audience of creators, early adopters and entrepreneurs who are defining the future of our connected lives. The President will call on the audience to apply their ideas and talents to make technology work for us – especially when it comes to tackling big challenges like increasing participation in the political process and fighting climate change.
After the event, President Obama will travel to Dallas, Texas, where he will stay the night.
The president courted outrage just a few weeks ago, when he did not attend the funeral of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, though he did appear at a memorial service. He also did not attend the funeral of First Lady Betty Ford in 2011, though Michelle Obama did.

Okay, that actually made me laugh.
Obama rarely misses an opportunity to kiss Hollywood’s butt. He thinks this is the cool move, missing Nancy’s Reagan’s funeral for a film festival. He had to know it would go over like a turd in the punchbowl after the Scalia snub too. He just doesn’t care. Shameful.
He will go to an event where there will be open mocking and jokes about Nancy Reagan, jokes about her corpse and jokes about seances and remember he said IN HIS VERY FIRST PRESS CONFERENCE when a reporter asked Obama in 2008 if he had spoken with any ex-presidents since his election on Tuesday, he responded that he had spoken to all former presidents “that are living.”
“I didn’t want to get into a Nancy Reagan thing about, you know, doing any seances,” he said.
He won’t go to her funeral. He will go to where they will openly make jokes about her and Reagan being senile.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Obama have been announced as official speakers at the FOR PROFIT SXSW festival (it is not a non-profit org even though it relies on a lot of free volunteer labour from staff and even the thousands of bands, paid staff is actually quite small).
Are the Obamas being paid or otherwise compensated for their appearance? Even the admission badges are almost a thousand dollars (the industry badge, not the $200 wristband that lets you jump in line at some but not all of the shows).
She will be with the First Wimmens at Nancy’s funeral, but she will also be at SXSW next week.
We don’t know a lot about that funeral of Osama Bin Laden. Did Barack attend?

News reports state Nancy Reagan planned her funeral to the last detail, including the guest list. The Ronald Reagan Presidential Library is executing the plan; doubt her children have much say in the matter. My guess is invitees included all living presidents & First Ladies. GWB & Laura Bush, Hillary, Rosalynn Carter, and The Mooch are going. GHWB & Barbara Bush will not be there; assume for health reasons. Hussein has no excuse; he could change when he speaks at left wing mutual masturbation fest SXSW...sociopathic @-hole.

Interesting that when Eleanor Roosevelt died in 1962, presidents Kennedy, Eisenhower, Truman and future president Johnson attended her funeral. She was the most political First Lady until Hillary.
I think he has already been on that trip more than once...of course the facts were never found on purpose.

SXSW in Austin is more like a Mardi Gras in New Orleans. Lots of bars, music concerts and people walking everywhere.
Sanctuary city and lots of gays and other crazies there.
Entertainment is great and so is the food.
Oh, there are some high tech companies there, but that is not the focus of SXSW as far as the people who attend are concerned. ..........Why is Obama going there? The BBQ or the country music? ...I don’t think so.

SXSW isn’t a film festival.
Just remembered... Last year, Jimmy Kimmel did his late night show from Austin during the SXSW. It was great, as he did segments of going to some of the best BBQ places, history of the city and lots of Texas country music.
