It's getting harder to believe Trump can be beaten
CNN ^ | Tim Stanley

Donald Trump won some outstanding victories on Tuesday night, solidifying his lead. He saw off two competitors while humiliating a third. From Nevada to Michigan and from Massachusetts to Mississippi, The Donald is the only candidate with a national following that translates into victories that are as consistent as they are deep. He is on track to be nominee.

The evolving narrative of "Trump can be beaten" is getting a little tired.

First, we were told that he'd lose when the field narrowed. Then that Marco Rubio could defeat him with sarcasm. Next that his delegate totals could be chipped away by a coalition of anti-Trump forces working in separate states.

Strange alliances were formed. Lindsey Graham, who once joked that a jury of senators wouldn't convict a man for killing Ted Cruz, announced that "Ted and I are in the same party, Donald Trump is an interloper."

The GOP is thus fighting to win its own primary. But while the prospect of a brokered convention remains a real one, Tuesday made it look less likely.

Cruz, for instance, entered Mississippi enjoying the governor's endorsement and signs of a late surge in the Louisiana primary next door, but the bounce failed to materialize. Exit polls suggest that eight out of 10 voters described themselves as evangelical or born again.

Cruz won those who said religion determined their vote; Trump won those who put other factors first. Cruz swept those described as "very conservative"; Trump did better among the less ideological. Cruz has won the most contests against The Donald, but usually only in caucuses and with the support of a narrow band of philosophical fellow travelers.

Cruz doesn't have a pathway to keep Trump from getting 1237.

God, I hope not....

That's really the last hurdle. Do I think the GOPe would take the nomination away from Trump if he doesn't have 1237 going into the convention, knowing it means another Clinton administration?

In a heartbeat.

Hell, they're planning on it!

Sadly, how true; they sure would!

Trump will probably win Ill., Florida, and N.C. ( I don't know about Ohio ), which just about guarantees that he'll get to or pretty close to 1237 on April 19th. !

Oh gee....that brings back memories!

The clintons have had one very cozy relationship with China.

Yes, long time ago. Back when Hillary and Bill began their felonious / treasonous crime sprees operating out of our W H back in '92. i.e. chinagate/loral/bernard schwartz / I have all my files on the criminal Clintons beginning in '91 when I had my first computer -and lurking here from '98 - 06 (so much treason/so many rapes -and they're still not locked up!)

What is hard is to fathom is people have fallen for this charlatan.

It really stinks when someone who doesn't belong comes in and takes over. But nothing Donald Trump has done is illegal he's winning fair and square.

Speaking of people who don't belong and are here illegally, if the Republican establishment had done something about illegal immigration there would be no need for Donald Trump. They sat on their hands and did nothing. How long did they think the Republican base was going to wait before a revolt ensued?

With that said, we should all stop our bickering, short temperedness, cursing and hard feeling towards one another (me included) and forgive each other, stand united...and rally behind Mr Trump and prepare for the general election together! And have popcorn....all along the way. :)

With such hatred for Trump, I fear his 757 will become another Flight 800.

Perhaps that is why Cruz has hitched his wagon to the Bush Dynasty.

No, that distinction goes to Marco. Marco is obsessed with the size of Donald Trump’s penis.

Your argument assumes that Ted Cruz walks into the Nomination with >50% of the pledged delegates that were awarded (assigned) by votes. How nice. That means he’d have to have the 1267 nationally going in and he hasn’t shown where this is going to happen yet. It is not looking like he ever will.

Right now, Trump got three out of the four states. He’s going to wind up with more delegates than Cruz, but not more delegates than Cruz+Kasich.

Starting March 15, with winner-take-all, Trump’s delegate lead will widen.

Cruz does not currently look like he will win. The most Cruz can do now is prevent Trump from getting a delegate majority, and thus throw the nomination to Romney in a brokered convention.

I counted 71 Trump, 56 Cruz - Trump's lead extends.

That's what 1 out of 4 does to a candidate - they fall further behind.

I heard that Cruz only got 18 percent of the non-Evangelical vote last night. The primaries in Evangelical heavy states will be over once Missouri and North Carolina vote on March 15th, and Trump will most likely win both of those. So, where does that leave Cruz?

BTW, since Neil Bush has now joined Team Cruz, and Cruz has taken on the entire Bush finance team, the stink of warmed over Bush now permeates Cruz.

We don’t want any more Bushes, and we don’t want any warmed over or stealth Bushes either.

Survey says........

Nope.

Good impersonation of Steve Harvey though.

Cruz, with single exception of his home state, has yet to win a single big primary from a delegate and population heavy state, period.

If Trump wins next Tuesday big, taking Fl and Ohio and the remaining delegates break down proportionally the way they have through the rest of this race has gone Trump is up about 300 delegates with about 800 or so total.

Cruz strength seems to be in the low population western states, and winner take all or not that’s not going to get him to the nomination.

Time will tell, but Trump wins Next week like he did tonight, if or all practical purposes the fat lady will have sung.

“Trump can be beaten”.......

If the GOP decides to change their rules, play dirty or pull some new stunts, indeed Trump CAN be beaten. Should the demodummies, or anyone else decide to cheat (they are masters at it), Trump can be beaten.

One thing I have learned in my 78 years, “Never say Never”.
