The White House's first black first lady will depart next year. Two commentators consider Michelle Obama's legacy as she prepares to leave office.
Peter Slevin, author of Michelle Obama: A Life
We are not likely to see another American first lady do the hula hoop on the White House lawn, practice kickboxing on an official video, dance in public to Uptown Funk or feed kale chips to comedians dressed in drag on late-night television.
Alicia Garza, co-founder, Black Lives Matter
Many have observed that Michelle Obama exemplified "black girl magic". She is a Harvard-trained lawyer with the middle name LaVaughn, has excellent fashion sense, and is an activist in her own right. Her legacy for black women is that we can unapologetically be black, even in the White House.
The moment is ripe for her to join the growing chorus to improve the lives of black women and girls: those who are holding together the tatters of our democracy and our economy, those who are working low wage jobs with little to no protections, those who are being funneled from a broken economy into an ever expanding prison system.

Eggactyly!
J.Crew? C’mon. Grow up!!
Nasty arrogant self absorbed jealous ugly inside and out should cover it
black activist....God damn America. She abhors whites.
She did nothing except drag her fat ass and her mothers fat ass around the world on my dime. Back to the hood for both of them.
Some women are worthless. She meets the definition.
Please, no legacy. The sooner we can forget about her the better.
I must not understand “excellent fashion sense”.
I’m sure the author of this through-the-looking-glass article would add, “her excellent posture” upon seeing this picture. Seeing her slouched and hunched next to the two French ladies, who were so chic yet simply dressed, nothing flashy, and the way they held themselves so beautifully, and looked so delicate and feminine-well, I bet that’s a picture Moochelle will never want a framed copy of.
I think the author of the article was British. I have noticed that quite a few British women seem to confuse looking fashinable and chic with wearing the most trendy, cutting-edge clothes, no matter how outre and unflattering they are. Same with their haircuts. It’s a shame, back in the day of the “stiff upper lip” and all that, they were known for understated good taste.
So many things come to mind-worst-dressed 1st lady-ever, spends taxpayer money as if it were her personal paycheck, preaches healthy eating habits while her butt should have a “wide load” sign on it, gained the dislike of America’s school kids by forcing schools to serve them bland, badly prepared and tasteless skimpy lunches shipped frozen and microwaved, while she and her kids gorge on lobster, steak, cookies, ice cream etc on the taxpayer dime...
Wow. That belongs in the checkout at Walmart.
I was thinking the other day of good comparisons to show how far society has tumbled in recent years. I thought of, for instance, television shows like Leave It To Beaver, Andy Griffith, Dick Van Dyke compared to I Am Cait or Girls.
Then there’s comics - Rodney Dangerfield, Carol Burnett, compared to just about every disgusting stand-up comedian around.
This picture of the first “lady” brought that to mind. What a disgrace.
All this for a flag?
Do an image search for “First Lady Camel Toe”. There’s your legacy.
The Ugly American!
her legacy is pole dancing in tight sweat pants and thrusting her crotch i nthe face of photoraphers and reporters- The photos were so disgusting that her hubby or soemoen in power apparently had them removed from the Internet- but for a few days they were out there- and it was really gross! She was also a guest writer on a women’s blog which was so filthy it’s almost too disgusting to describe here- encouraging young girls to experiment with filthy foul sexual acts- FR had the articles back when they happened
OMG, I thought it was on her foot!!!
Michelle has 8 years of experience in the White House.
That is more than Trump, Rubio, Cruz, Sanders and equal to Hillary. When Hillary drops out will she be replaced by the most experienced alternative?
