National Poll: Donald Trump Remains Frontrunner, Would Lose Big Head-To Head With Ted Cruz

Trump leads poll with a disparate group campaigning. When head to head with Cruz or Rubio, he loses.

"An ABC News/Washington Post poll shows Donald Trump leading the race to become the Republican nominee for President of the United States. However, if the field were to consolidate, the billionaire businessman would no longer be favored in a head-to-head situation, according to the survey...]

[Cruz easily defeats Trump head-to-head 54-41 percent. non-Cruz or Trump supporters prefer Cruz to Trump 72-17 percent.

Among “very conservative voters,” Cruz takes down Trump 60-34 percent. Among white evangelicals, Cruz handles Trump 64-31 percent.

Rubio also defeats Trump, but by smaller margins, 51-45 percent. Non-Rubio or Trump voters favor Rubio 69-23 percent. He, like Cruz, is favored by approximately 60% of women in a head-to-head with Trump.

Absolutely meaningless. The whole point of the poll is showing you where the vote goes when all but 2 candidates drop out. Very little of it goes to Trump because he has a hardcore base of fanatics giving him a plurality in the states he’s won and no appeal to most of the party.

If Cruz coudn’t do it in a four man field, he’s unlikely to do it in a head-to-head matchup.

An absolutely absurd and false mathematical statement. The majority of the GOP voters are #nevertrump. The 2-man-race means their vote isn't split, and DJT's 30-40% becomes a losing number instead of a winning number. Simple math.

All hypothetical polls are weak for the reasons I gave in previous post. These are not polls that just I think are hypothetical...they literally are hypothetical in that they do not accurately reflect reality at the time they are taken. In this case, it is head to head Trump vs Cruz...that does not exist presently. There are Rubio and Kasich in there as well...

I did not mean to disparage Cruz supporters, I just reflect on the apparent need for them to build themselves up by depending upon hypothetical polls...hey, us Trumpsters are also nervous about these primaries.

Cruz is a perfect Freeper candidate for President. He is a conservative/constitutionalist’s wet dream. I’m thrilled that he has done so well thus far - and I think there’s a good chance that the race could come down to Trump v Cruz.

It stands to reason a lot of #nevertrump moderates will go for Cruz in this case. Trump could end up being God’s gift to Cruz, an unexpected reality where the moderates and liberal Republicans will vote for Cruz, after the actual moderate candidates back out.

The line-up of candidates in this race has been changing by the week. So the real polls often become as hypothetical as the hypothetical ones before the actual voting starts.

Both Cruz and Trump are getting vote totals in states that surpass previous top totals ever recorded, sometimes both of them at the same time. They both seem to be bringing in new voters.

Which poll outlets does Trump limit himself to citing in his speeches?

Last I checked, he cites any poll where he’s ahead.

But, they reasonably reflect what is going on at that time...but, sampling continues to be a problem with accuracy and some who try to sway voters by oversampling certain demographics, etc.

It’s irrelevant. As I understand it from the Trump lawyers on FR, Cruz is ineligible to be President. Funny though how millions of dollars are flowing to him by people everywhere. They all must be idiots.

No, just sellouts to the GOPe. According to half the members on FR.

Actually I’m fine with Teddy Milhous working on stopping bills. But here’s the problem...what has he successfully stopped? He’s not gotten any legislation through, he hasn’t stopped anything of note. So where is his record of accomplishment? Has he actually done anything while in the senate other than posture?

Now that you say that, I can’t recall Trump ever specifying any particular poll by name. Like last night in MS, he mentioned that “polls” looked good in various states, but I don’t recall him ever citing a poll by name. Just “they” say....
Besides, I’d be very surprised to learn that he had no polling outfit of his own.
