Despite holding a wide lead among Republican New York voters in the race for the GOP nomination, Donald Trump would get crushed in a hypothetical general election matchup with Hillary Clinton in the state, a new poll released Monday shows.
Clinton would beat the outspoken real estate magnate in the Empire State 57% to 34%, the latest Siena Research Institute poll found.
In such a matchup, registered Democrats overwhelmingly support the former secretary of state (80% to 15%), and registered Republicans overwhelmingly support the Trump (71%, to 19%), while independent voters lean toward Clinton (45% to 38%), according to the poll.
The former secretary of state would also beat Marco Rubio (56% to 35%), Ted Cruz (58% to 33%) and John Kasich (49% to 42%), who would give Clinton her best competition, the poll of 800 registered New York voters showed.
Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders also handily beat all of the Republican challengers, including Trump, in hypothetical general election matchups in the state, the poll found.
"Clinton leads Trump 57-34, almost identical to Sanders' 57-33 lead over Trump," pollster Steve Greenberg said in a statement. "Kasich has made the most headway in general election matchups against the Democrats. Sanders leads Kasich by 19 points, down from 30 points last month, and he comes within seven points of Clinton, 49-42."

It don’t surprise me none.
Trump can take NY...
Front-running contender Donald Trump believes the GOP presidential nomination is within his grasp and declares a general election win in his very-blue native New York would seal the deal for his White House bid.
"If I win New York," the 69-year-old GOP front-runner tells The Hill, the election "is over."
In an interview with the news outlet, the unconventional candidate declares he's got a "real good shot" at the Empire State in the general election, which hasn't been won by a Republican nominee since 1984.
"This is my place," Trump tells The Hill. "I love New York."
Besides a win in New York where Democratic presidential rival Hillary Clinton lives and which she represented as a U.S. senator the real estate billionaire also predicts he'll take Pennsylvania and "will expand the map." And he asserts establishment Republicans will rally behind a Trump candidacy when he begins piling up primary wins and delegates
A deeper examination of her numbers is needed.
If she is taking 50% of three voters, that’s a pretty poor showing and that’s exactly what’s happened in some of these primary/caucus areas.
Once the campaigns change...when the dem candidate and repub candidate is established, I think we are also likely to see voter sentiments change, too.
Right now the contest is between party members, but when the contest shifts between the two parties, we are more likely to see the popularity influence kick in.
Good point.
The Daily News has been SLIMING Trump daily for weeks. I don’t believe this poll at all
No different in NJ

She would crush Trump NOW....Let’s see later on when he systematically takes apart the Hillary myth and exposes the witch for the vile evil crow she is. As Trump as said “I haven’t even started on her yet”
Good points. And there is so much ammunition to use against her...if they only use it.
Good thing Trump’s not currently running in the general right now. It’s primary season.
Till Trump is the nominee & we are a month out from the general, these Trump vs Cankles is just a useless time sink, IMO.
“I cannot see any Republican ever carrying New York State in the General.”
Nor can I. It is, however, one of the many silly things trump supporters here seem to believe is possible.
I think the delusion is due to high amounts of enthusiasm and understandable anger.
I am 99% sure trump takes New York in a walk for the primary.
All things considered, losing New York should be a mark of pride.
These head to head polls are worthless. Once we are actually down to those two, then the polls might be worth a look.
why is this even news for the rags, it is like saying Trump will demolish Clinton in SC
Sorry, but close only counts in horse shoes, hand grenades, and atom bombs!
I agree about NY. If a rep takes New York it will be akin to a Reagan 84 landslide. But Trump has been bragging about all the dem states he is going to take in the general. Fact is, we don't have to. Ted is very capable, with an energized conservative base, to win Ohio, VA, and Fl, in addition to the other red states. W energized the base in 2004 and took both Fl and Ohio. If we do that the game is over.
These anti-Trump polls being pushed by the MSM and GOPe are just a pack of lies.
Do not believe them.
If Trump says it, it must be true /sarc
