Seeing Trump as vulnerable, GOP elites now eye a contested convention
Washington Post ^

PARK CITY, Utah — The presentation is an 11th-hour rebuttal to the fatalism permeating the Republican establishment: Slide by slide, state by state, it calculates how Donald Trump could be denied the presidential nomination.

Marco Rubio wins Florida. John Kasich wins Ohio. Ted Cruz notches victories in the Midwest and Mountain West. And the results in California and other states are jumbled enough to leave Trump three dozen delegates short of the 1,237 required — forcing a contested convention in Cleveland in July.

The slide show, shared with The Washington Post by two operatives advising one of a handful of anti-Trump super PACs, encapsulates the newly emboldened view of many GOP leaders and donors. They see a clearer path to stopping Trump since his two losses and two narrower-than-expected wins in Saturday’s contests.

If Cruz gets the nomination he’ll be lucky to do as well as Mondale did in the general election.

That should produce an empty echo chamber here

No they will blame republicans for not embracing policies that appeal to Spanish speakers, muslims and blacks

You know, the democrat policies of open borders and massive govt spending that will somehow save the GOP if there was only more pandering

Where in the hell do you folks come up with this crap? You better take a breath (a real deep and loooong breath) before you ever accuse anyone else of making stuff up - you and others have mastered the "Fake but true" legacy that Dan Rather made famous.

And it’s becoming clearer that true conservatism does not tolerate the free expression of political opinion. ( aka “ made up stuff”) if it is bad news for their candidate

Nah, Cruz could easily do as well as Romney did.

Which means he'll lose, but it won't be total humiliation.

My working hypothesis is that Hillary is such a miserable candidate that even Kasich might beat her. But the prospect of Hillary as president is so terrible that we can't take any chances.

Trump/Palin 2016!

LOL! That's rich from one who wil lmake up/stuff, twist stuff, and do other gyrations to attack one who isn't his candidate - keep that other one bookmarked.
