Limbaugh on Trump: Much bigger upside than downside
The Hill ^ | March 06, 2016 | David McCabe

Conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh said Sunday that there's a "much bigger upside than downside" in the Republican presidential candidacy of real estate developer Donald Trump.

"I think with the case of Trump, there’s a much bigger upside than downside," said Limbaugh while appearing on "Fox News Sunday."

It would be best for the future of conservatism if Trump and Cruz could find some way to work together, but unfortunately the two now hate each other. I could easily see either candidate stay in for the sake of trying to force a brokered convention against the other man. But yes, despite the flaws of both candidates I am happy how both of them are exceeding expectations in the primary while Rube-o is getting annihilated.

He was pushing Rubio hard too, which shows me that he prefers GOPe.

And there are people complaining that Rush was pushing Cruz, there was people complaining Rush was all in for Trump. I remember some people on here going nuts that Rush was endorsing Carson. I saw a Freeper that was angry that Rush was for Christie.

Rush usually speaks well of the Republicans in the Primaries. He was not kind at all towards McCain when he was running, but usually he finds favorable things to say about those running. Then people lock in on one thing he says nice about a candidate and swears he is backing that one person. Rush does not endorse people in the primaries, and he has been pretty nice to everyone running this cycle.

That football analogy is great! Really makes it clear.

I presume you are being sarcastic. Calm is not a word I would use for Cruz. I do agree he has impressed me as intelligent. Maybe Cruz was misquoted in the reported regarding the tirade he had about the KKK. I did not hear it myself. But I have heard him make accusations against Trump that were nonsenses. His association with Beck stupid. His attacks on Trump will not win over Trump supporters. He should be promoting himself, telling us how he plans to stop the invasion of this country and ISIS infiltration.

Rush supports whatever brings in $ for himself. It’s his job.

You are full of Cruz.

I find him consistent as well.

But he’s also a pragmatist who knows better than to potentially alienate significant chunks of his listenership.

You are out of your mind. More dangerous than Obama? The most dangerous on the republican side are those that want more boots on the ground in Syria. WWIII anyone? What could be more dangerous than that?

I think you underestimate Senator Cruz and Mr Trump.

Cruz is use to the rough and tumble of the court room when you smash the heck out of each other and go have dinner together afterwards.

Trump is the “Art of the Deal” you may smash a guy here to win here and then need to make a deal with him next week. You don’t burn bridges if you want to be successful in business.

I can very easily see Cruz or Trump building a bridge to the other side. Its not personal, its just Primary Politics.

Cruz did a much better job with his speech Saturday night. Trump did a masterful job.

Did everyone hear the reporter trying to blame Trump as to why there are protesters at his events?

Regarding Rush, he practically admits he’s no profile in courage when it comes to these races. But for my money he tries to be way too clever and comes off as sneaky.

I guess that means we can count on him to support the eventual nominee which is good.

Trump is too dangerous regarding international politics.

Odd you think that since the only GOP candidate who did not advocate armed confrontation with Russia over Syria last fall was Trump

“Rush seemed to be more inclined to support Cruz.”

Or Rubio, who he has called conservative numerous times. Since Rube can’t get any traction, he ‘supports’ Cruz.

Senator Cruz is running on traditional conservative values.

Besides just being a cliche', what exactly are traditional conservative values???

Agreed. I also don't think he is as popular as he once was, do you ? I don't know anyone who listens to him anymore.

I think I read somewhere that his numbers aren't what they used to be - which is odd since the biggest liberal ever has been in office for years.

I listen to him off and on these days solely because of the election cycle .. he has some good observations at times but nothing groundbreaking.

Yes, he has said it a thousand times on-air that he NEVER endorses anyone in the primaries, very wise move...and with the revolution amongst the electorate, he is doing his job impeccably-watching the events of the day and reacting to them and putting his context to it...and yes, it has made brilliant radio for 28 years...

“He was pushing Rubio hard too, which shows me that he prefers GOPe.”

Not necessarily prefers, but clearly takes marching orders at some level. Rush spent an uncomfortably long time defending against that ‘secret meeting’ business.

If you know any history, you wouldn’t ask that question .
Rush was the only opposing viewpoint to the MSM for many years.

As Cruz is only Conservative running how could he support anyone else but Cruz. Limbaugh likes the fact Trump can stick it to the media but he is NO conservative and would be a horrible president.

Which is why it is important to keep the Senate and House in Republican control. We may need the leverage to use on Trump.

Excellent point and very true; keeping elected officials on message after they're elected is more work than electing them.

IMHO, that's why term limits works (most of the time)..
