Tom Delay: Voters Need to Understand “The Delegates Pick the Nominee” (Video)
The Gateway Pundit ^ | 03/05/2016 | Jim Hoft

Posted on 03/05/2016 11:06:05 AM PST by nhwingut

Former House Majority Leader Tom Delay told Cavuto the GOP voters need to understand that the “delegates pick the nominee.”

Tom Delay: It’s not stealing the nomination. It’s the process. People need to realize that this is not an election of a president. This is the nomination of a candidate. And there’s a process and there’s rules and everybody has a fair shot at those rules. But in the end, the representatives, the delegates make the decision at the convention one way or another. And if no candidate gets to the convention with the majority of the votes then the delegates, duly elected to represent the people who have voted, get to decide. It’s not stealing anything.

Video at link.

9, 14, 70, 71, 84, 85. Plus all the outrage at Delay for stating the simple truth.

Tom delay doesn’t understand...the voters commit the delegated by their votes.

But only for the first round of voting on a nominee, then they are free to vote in a manner they think is best. If there is a clear leader who didn't get enough delegates to win the nomination outright, the party would be foolish to deny that person the nomination. However, it is the process and personally, I don't the process is seriously flawed on this dimension.

Would I be pissed if the process is used by the GOPe to foist Romney on us again? Damn right I would be but there are a lot of things that would have to fall into place for that to occur which aren't likely to happen.

[If Trump is one delegate short, he will not get the nomination.]

Once the convention comes around, winner takes all.

Another GOPe ESTABLISHMENT HACK reveals his true colors! The one thing Donald Trump has accomplished more than anything is to pull the OZ curtain back to reveal all of the GOPe establishment, Anti-American, illegal loving, cheap labor cockroaches for who they really are!

Please be sure to write their names down on a list; NEVER FORGET WHO AND WHAT THESE PEOPLE REALLY ARE AND DO EVERYTHING WITHIN YOUR PERSONAL POWER TO COMPLETELY MARGINALIZE AND REMOVER THEM FROM THEIR POSITIONS! And yes I am yelling, because like untold millions of American citizens I am totally fed up with and over the GOPe taking us conservatives for suckeres! To quote the song: "We WON'T BE FOOLED AGAIN!

The “deal” is more that the runner up gets to be VP, NOT that the delegates get to choose someone besides the front runner if he doesn’t get 50% though no one else is even close!

Did you not read what I posted? It was printed in a newspaper online from Texas, what part are you having trouble with, the fact that it’s the truth or the fact you don’t want to accept it as truth? Your problem, not mine...

If Trump is one delegate short, he will not get the nomination. And I strongly support that result.

Which is why you're considered an officious prig.

Tom DeLay (what he really meant to say):

Everyone needs to realize that K Street Lobbyists are the ones that pick the nominee.

It’s not this thread per se, but this site in general, where anytime the words “brokered convention” shows up, the discussion is by Trump supporters of how a brokered convention is “cheating” and the establishment trying to “steal” the nomination from Trump.

A brokered convention in 2016 would not be an "accident". If you haven't watched the news, be aware that a brokered convention is being "intended". There is a full on strategy to get delegates any which way so that the convention can be brokered. The strategy is no longer to win delegates and gain the nomination, the strategy is to win delegates and force a brokered convention and someone selected to gain the nomination.

Now, if you think going forward that ought to be the process for now on forever, then good for you. I'll look for another party to participate in politically. This is not a "valid and legitimate" process if they declare that the process ought to result in a brokered convention so that they can stop whoever they want and nominate whoever they want.

They can do whatever they feel is within the rules, but there are consequences. They have underestimated those all the way up to this moment. They have no idea.

I have been republican all my life, casting my very first vote for Gerald Ford. They can absolutely positively go on without me for two reasons if things don't change: 1) Things haven't changed. 2) They don't care things haven't changed.

You want to nullify the votes of people that voted for all the candidates that dropped out of the primaries We have a primary vote to winnow the field. You select delegates that are like minded. Then at the convention those like minded delegates will choose between the remaining field to get a nominee that the majority of the party finds acceptable. Simple, easy and fair way of selecting the nominee.

GW Bush started the 2000 campaign by winning the Iowa caucuses and went on from there. Hardly ‘out of nowhere’.

Tom Delay: Voters Need to Understand “The Delegates Pick the Nominee”

Well, Tom, here's what you need to understand. Come November I plan on voting for Donald Trump for President. I can either select his name electronically in the category marked "Republican" or I will hand-write it in.

That’s what they are saying. If Trump has the plurality but not the majority, then any outcome other than Trump getting the nod is “stolen” from Trump.

Correct. Any "rule" that undermines that outcome is illegitimate by definition.

If the GOPe does this..., then they will be FORFEITING the election over to Hillary Clinton.

I don’t think the Trump supporters along with others will vote of a Marco Rubio, Mitt Romney or Jeb Bush.

It will will 100% ensure the election of Hillary Clinton.

Oh and the end of our Republic as we know it.

You can thank the GOPe for it too.

All of this can be avoided if Trump gets 50% of the delegates, which is what all other candidate is past primaries in my life time have accomplished to get the nomination.

Why is Trump so so special that the rules should be changed for him, that he should get handed the nomination by just getting the plurality rather than work to get the majority like every other candidate in history.

There are not two front runners. There is Trump. Delay endorsed Cruz so I don’t think he hates him. Cruz is GOPe pure establishment. He is on board with Mitts strategic voting and has had a purely anti Trump campaign since SC.

So Trump is the special snowflake that we have to change the rules for so that it’s easier for him to get the nomination than every other candidate in history.
