Tom Delay: Voters Need to Understand “The Delegates Pick the Nominee” (Video)
The Gateway Pundit ^ | 03/05/2016 | Jim Hoft

Posted on 03/05/2016 11:06:05 AM PST by nhwingut

Former House Majority Leader Tom Delay told Cavuto the GOP voters need to understand that the “delegates pick the nominee.”

Tom Delay: It’s not stealing the nomination. It’s the process. People need to realize that this is not an election of a president. This is the nomination of a candidate. And there’s a process and there’s rules and everybody has a fair shot at those rules. But in the end, the representatives, the delegates make the decision at the convention one way or another. And if no candidate gets to the convention with the majority of the votes then the delegates, duly elected to represent the people who have voted, get to decide. It’s not stealing anything.

Video at link.

You must have missed the ones about “stealing” and “cheating.”

Actually Tom, the whole system is rigged.
But you knew that already.

They made the rules to help themselves, American voters be damned.

Hell Tom, they even fixed it where if the rules get in their way they can change them any time they want to fix that too.

After all look at what they've done to you.

The word "steal" appeared twice in this thread (aside from your comment), both in a comment saying that it's not stealing according to the process, because the party sets the rules. The word "cheat" appeared once, in a comment saying that if the process doesn't favor the party, they could always cheat, which is true, as it is of any process.

So what comments where you referring to?

Folks, we are honored to have in our presence someone who is far more brilliant, far more intelligent, far more knowledgable than the rest of us...He even tells us so quite often...

From Timmy:

“Must be blonde.”

“Oh, no. They are uninformed and absurd.”

“...all the ignorance being displayed here...”

“Another Trump moron. God help us.”

I could go on, but I don’t want his head to swell...
“You Trumpsters are like unruly children.”

[Tom delay doesn’t understand...the voters commit the delegated by their votes.]

After the first round in a brokered convention I believe the delegates are free to choose whomever they want.

The point is if Trump doesn’t get a majority, then an outcome where he doesn’t become the nominee is possible, and legitimate and valid, and does not mean the nomination is “stolen” from him.

Dude, duh. And I see that you already are buying into the new lexicon, "legitimate and valid".

Like it is "legitimate and valid" what Romney just did, or McCain. Oh, OK. Got it. So, "Never Trump" is legitimate and valid. Why, it is downright brilliant, it isn't against the rules! If we can just prevent Trump from getting to the delegate total, WE GOT HIM BY THE RULES!

A rose by any other name Truthsearcher. I am not buying into their lexicon just because they put out Tom Delay to precondition their actions as "legitimate and valid".

And by the way, when Trump gets the delegates, let's just see what else is in them thar rules they come up with.

There is nothing stopping the delegates from nominating Rubio or Jeb on the first ballot even if Trump has the lead in "pledged" delegates. A pledge is just that, they are broken all the time and have no weight in law.

Other than suffering the howls of outrage, there is no punishment should delegates decide to go against the wishes of primary voters.

It could happen. The GOP here in Washington has shown a willingness to run rough over the wishes of the caucus attendees in the past two elections. Essentially the process was conducted to ensure the result the GOPe wanted: Romney in 2012. Ron Paul delegates were denied and disenfranchised. (Ron Paul may have done the same thing to others in some other states).

Partially as a result we went to all delegates being apportioned by primary (previously, it was 50/50). But, there still is a caucus to select delegates, but the delegates are supposed to just follow the primary vote at the convention.

Thing is, with no candidate being supported at the Caucus's it's turned back into a GOP Old-boys club. So the actual people going to Cleveland are much more likely to personally support Mitt, Rubio or Ryan and have zero attachment to Trump.

I believe Mitt's speech is just the start of a process designed to create massive "unfaithful delegates" and take the nomination away from Trump, even after he's won it, using pledge-breaking as the mechanism.

It’s not this thread per se, but this site in general, where anytime the words “brokered convention” shows up, the discussion is by Trump supporters of how a brokered convention is “cheating” and the establishment trying to “steal” the nomination from Trump.

Nonsense.

One does not have to be “informed” to know “heads I win, tails you lose” is not a legitimate “rule.”

Translation: When we throw out your votes and choose OUR establishment candidate instead, it’s not stealing the election in our eyes.

Even Tom Delay is one of them.

Now you know how George W. Bush “appeared out of nowhere” and ended up as the Republican nominee in 2000. And why they called it “The Reagan Revolution” back in 1980.

The game isn’t rigged exactly, but it’s definitely stacked in the house’s(GOPe)favor.

No, if Trump gets 50%, then nobody can get him “by the rules”.
So work to get your guy to 50%.

If Trump gets 50% and somehow they try to screw him out of the nomination, I’ll join you in calling them thieves and cheats.

But if he doesn’t get 50%, then it will be a brokered convention.
