Donald Trump on Thursday night said he's changing his stance on visas for highly skilled immigrant workers.
"I’m changing it, and I’m softening the position because we need to have talented people in this country," Trump said at the Fox News GOP debate in Michigan.
Trump's comments came after debate moderator Megyn Kelly raised the issue. Kelly noted that Trump had previously opposed those visas, saying they "decimate American workers," but appeared to change his position at an earlier CNBC debate. Trump said recipients of the visas go to high-profile U.S. universities and "desperately" want to remain in the country. He said they should be allowed to stay and work in places that need high-skilled workers, such as Silicon Valley.
"We need highly-skilled people in this country," Trump said. "For that purpose, we absolutely have to be able to keep the brainpower in this country."

YOu are so right. WHY no one ever mentions ‘LOOK AT EUROPE’ is beyond me.
Citizens need to be informed as to what the USA will look like if we do not stop the unregulated influx of illegals and legals to some degree. Just look at Europe. A mess.

Trump needs to clarify this H1B CRAP.
JUST SAY NO MORE H1B VISAS FOR 10 YEARS.
We have 110 percent of the necessary intelligent people to fill all of our Hi tech jobs. Trump is not going to get a single extra vote by going soft on this. Instead he will lose many votes.

LOL. Than what was he referring to? Because, yes, H-1Bs are skilled. Plus, he mentioned Silicon Valley! What workers was he talking about in SILICON VALLEY? It could only possibly be H-1Bs. Please give me another explanation.

They already have to pay $15-$20k all in to get the H-1B worker on board, then the worker can take his H1-B to another company the next day.

Not on an H1B visa.
A bachelor’s degree or higher degree or its equivalent is normally the minimum requirement for the particular position;
The degree requirement is common for this position in the industry, or the job is so complex or unique that it can only be performed by someone with at least a bachelor's degree in a field related to the position;
The employer normally requires a degree or its equivalent for the position; or
The nature of the specific duties is so specialized and complex that the knowledge required to perform the duties is usually associated with the attainment of a bachelor's or higher degree.

For unskilled labor, you would (as Trump has used) need to go with a H-2B Visa.

Starting to see some of that on this forum. And it’s a long way to November with a lot of words still to come out of his mouth.
Trump is very well aware of the problems in the H1B visa programs. His immigration policy statement addresses the way they take some jobs from Americans.
His statement of “softening” his position means exactly that. I believe he will stand firm in his commitment that the jobs go to Americans first, and the H1Bs already here may not all be kicked out if they are needed. His policy position doesn’t just address the numbers of visas awarded, but how it’s done which is the crux of the matter.
The H1B visa section from his website:
“Increase prevailing wage for H-1Bs. We graduate two times more Americans with STEM degrees each year than find STEM jobs, yet as much as two-thirds of entry-level hiring for IT jobs is accomplished through the H-1B program. More than half of H-1B visas are issued for the program’s lowest allowable wage level, and more than eighty percent for its bottom two. Raising the prevailing wage paid to H-1Bs will force companies to give these coveted entry-level jobs to the existing domestic pool of unemployed native and immigrant workers in the U.S., instead of flying in cheaper workers from overseas. This will improve the number of black, Hispanic and female workers in Silicon Valley who have been passed over in favor of the H-1B program. Mark Zuckerberg’s personal Senator, Marco Rubio, has a bill to triple H-1Bs that would decimate women and minorities.

I have to agree with you to some extent, However...truthfully a few years ago I have an internet company and needed very highly skilled programmers. 2 out of 4 that I had were under the H1B visa. I didn’t plan it that way, it just worked out that way. I needed pretty specific technology and while I didn’t go to extraordinary lengths to not hire foreigners, I would have if I hadn’t hired them. It is a tough question to figure out how many should be allowed at any one time. We do not want to undermine hiring Americans, but we also do not want to undermine our tech businesses. I think the resolution is in how many we allow each year.
You understand he is talking about the marketing of the idea...in a humane way...he is very strong about illegal immigration. And, I trust he will resolve it, but you need to understand Trump is really a very compassionate good man. He will not pull people out of their homes in the middle of the night, but he will have them move...mostly on their own back to their home nation.
Better hope Sessions does not keel over or piss Trump off. All bets will be off then and Trump will be adrift AND angry.
