Mitt Romney has instructed his closest advisers to explore the possibility of stopping Donald Trump at the Republican National Convention, a source close to Romney's inner circle says.
The 2012 GOP nominee's advisers are examining what a fight at the convention might look like and what rules might need revising.
"It sounds like the plan is to lock the convention," said the source.
Romney is focused on suppressing Trump's delegate count to prevent him from accumulating the 1,237 delegates he needs to secure the nomination.
But implicit in Romney's request to his team to explore the possibility of a convention fight is his willingness to step in and carry the party's banner into the fall general election as the Republican nominee. Another name these sources mentioned was House Speaker Paul Ryan, Romney's running mate in 2012.

The dems and republicans are just one giant machine. We are being played.
Just look here...scroll down... https://www.tedcruz.org/news/
Ted has always been my 2nd choice...but that’s a pretty big red flag don’t ya think?
watch James Baker III’s moves too, he is the consiglerie for the GOPe
Former Bush Finance Team Members Join Ted Cruz

This is the message being sent...Your vote is of no importance to us when our ivory tower is under siege.
I voted for Cruz in the primary but this assault on the leading candidate sickens me. They better not rig the convention!
James Baker and Ben Ginsberg are working hand in hand then, because Ben Ginsberg is woking on stealing the nomination from Trump 24/7.
Trump needs to hire Ben Ginsberg. :-)
I don't think there's much of a choice from their point of view. If they end-run Trump they're either going to have to get Cruz to buy in by giving him the candidacy or lose his voters too. And Cruz hasn't committed to any such games. Foisting Ryan or Romney, or God help us, Bush, on us and alienating both leading candidates' voters is a recipe for a debacle that will end the party.
Wow...the GOPe needs to just get on board with whoever wins. This is nuts. They are only hurting themselves even more. It may be better for them just to become democrats and ask for their old jobs back.
Indeed it would, IF your scenario were to materialize.
I really don’t want to vote for Trump. But if the GOPe keeps this up I’ll have to.
It’s still not a lock that Trump is going to win the nomination. He should, but these coordinated attacks by the establishment and now both Rubio and Cruz slinging whatever lie they feel like slinging it might erode Trump’s support enough enough for him to actually lose some states and probably to Cruz. If he starts to fade because of the attacks or whatever reason, Cruz will be the benefactor. Then Cruz will find out real quick that he’s hated as bad as Trump was hated and they will go after him with a vengence. It would behoove Cruz to lay off the attacks on Trump and let Rubio do whatever he feels like doing. These coordinated effort to get rid of Trump is help the establishment boy Rubio, not Cruz.
Ted has always been my 2nd choice...but thats a pretty big red flag dont ya think?
From your link:
I am excited to welcome this outstanding new group to our finance team, said Cruz. They arrive at a pivotal time for our campaign, as the field is winnowing down to a two-person race. I am honored to have such an impressive committee. It is yet another sign that conservatives are coalescing behind our campaign.
Cruz is calling the Bush crew conservatives and really welcomes their GOPe money...
This pisses me off. I do not like Donald Trump and really do not want to vote for him in a general election. But if Trump keeps winning the primaries and is the choice of the the Republican voters, then he must be nominated.
Mitt Romney blew an easy election in a big way. What business does he have trying to influence this race. He had his shot. he blew it. No go home and stay home Willard.
Gucci Canuchi! Ritt Momsey and the Mormon aristocracy herd are preparing for war!
The whole nation is cringing, not from fear, but at the total lack of comMITTment to the People.
They want to stop Trump?
How do you stop the wind?
That sure is a red flag. For me the red flag is when I learned Heidi Cruz was a member of the CFR and still works for Goldman Sach.
God I love that cartoon
