Mitt
March 3, 2016.
I am writing this with quite a bit of consternation.
I am not sure you will see it, much less read it. But I hope you will. Please forgive the length in advance.
I watched your speech today about Donald Trump, and I have to say, I was disappointed.
I watched you in 2012 accept Donald Trump's endorsement in Las Vegas. You said glowing things about the man. You were clearly glad to get his endorsement and talked about his success in business and that he was someone who saw the dangers our nation faces oversees.
Now, you return that favor with today's diatribe? As if though you never said those things?
This is not honorable. You could easily have met with Trump privately and talked this over. I have no doubt he would have made the time for you.
But instead you chose to make a public spectacle, and quite honestly, and spoken as a person who has had great respect for you...you came off looking like a stooge for the Republican Party elite.
Donald Trump does indeed come across as a crass, egotistical, and often profane man. But he was in 2012 as well. People know this about the man. It has been apparent for a long time, and particularly for the last six months as he has gone through this process and is energizing more and more voters.
Where was your speech then?
I know you will probably not like to hear what I have to say. But I think enough of you to know that you know that one of the qualities of any good leader is an ability to listen. Particularly to listen to things that may not be what they want to hear, but could be what they need to hear.
That is true in friendships. That is true in marriages. That is true as a father. That is true as a Mayor or Governor. That is true of an officer or squad leader in the military. That is true in Church positions. It is true of a group manager or CEO in a business. It is true in any position of leadership.
The fact is, Donald Trumps rise in this election season is the product of a very broken GOP leadership.
This has gone on most of my adult life. A great exception was during the Reagan years where another outside the beltway individual, whom the establishment scoffed at, but who was as true as he could be to the people who elected him...and who, because of those qualities, delivered the largest Republican victories for the Presidency in my life time, and probably in all history. Thats simply the truth I know there are a lot of details that went into it but it is the truth nonetheless.
It is true that Donald Trump is not Ronald Reagan.
But Trump is a person who speaks directly, and says what most of us have thought when it comes to things like immigration, when it comes to the unbridled importation of immigrants into the country who may be a risk, when it comes to Obama Care, when it comes to the Iranian deal, and numerous other initiatives, including his tax and corporate tax plans. It is true that Donald Trump is not politically correct.
But the people are frustrated and they are angry because of career and establishment politicians and their attitudes. They care more about fixing the country than they do about political correctness or reverence, for broken leadership.
Trump is tapping into the real frustration of the people.
And you know what, despite the irreverence or maybe because of it the people believe he will do what he says, establishment be hanged.
Historically its not the first time. Andrew Jackson was sent to Washington DC in his day to route the vipers out. People may argue about how effectively he did or did not do but from time to time, if the go along to get along, attitude festers too much, it needs lancing for the good of the nation.
Some may not fathom it, but the more establishment types attack Trump, the bigger the flames will be stoked. The people will properly view it as the establishment, omnce again rejecting them and they will simply be all the more determined to put someone in there who will not do so. Some may not "get" that...but it is true nonetheless.
Maybe a personal example from my own career will help you understand it.
At a former job, at one of our remote facilies, we had a couple of employees who ran the place. They we unbelievably good at what they did. But they were absolutely blue collar and not "spit and polished." They were what the management types felt was irreverent and they were profane. They were both raised in such an environment.
I was given the task of working with them with the warning that it would be next to impossible because of these qualities.
You know what I found? I went there with an open mind...determined to live out Jesus Christ's golden rule. Not as a goody two-shoes of some type, but too simply work with them and get the job done.
I worked with them...I listened to their language, I listened to their frustrations with management whom they felt always looked down their nose at them.
I found that they were unbelievable talented at what they did...which is why management told me was the only reason they kept them around.
Over time, I found these two men, despite their rough exterior, their profanity, and their ways, to be gems...to be diamonds in the rough.
They were honest. I have never heard them be anything but brutally honest.
They were loyal. Once they learned I was out there to work with them and get the job done, they would bend over backwards not only to do their part...but to help me do mine.
The listened well. They did not here me cursing and eventually, they asked me about it. I told them is was not my place to tell them how to talk in their plant but that I for myself did not use such language. You know what? They honestly tried to lessen their own profanity. Now, they were not real good at it but they clearly, consciously tried and that endeared them to me.
Over a ten year period, they became my friends.
Many in the larger office, despite my own protestations and testimony to the contrary, still looked down their noses at them and would not open their minds to them.
But I found that if I needed help on a cold night and needed to call someone to come to my assistance, that the more spit and polished people, particularly those that looked down their nose at those two individuals, were somehow not available to help. I am sure they had their reasons and that those reasons were probably more than adequate justification. But guess who was willing to drop what they were doing at a moments notice and help? You got it those two supposedly irreverent, profane, no good guys at that remote location.
Theres an important life lesson in that at least there was for me.
Sometimes we need to look beyond the party line.
Sometimes God in Heaven puts people in our path who may be indeed rough around the edges. Who may be irreverent and profane in our eyes and ears...but whom He has put there for his reasons, and to maynbe do some hard work. Who underneath all of that are really good people. But we will never know if we taek such views of them and do not try and get to know them.
It's not like they were aliens. It's not like they were mortal enemies. They were just Americans trying to make a living for themselves and their familes.
I do not know Donald Trump well enough to make that judgement. But I do hear what his daughters say. They say he is rough on the outside, but that there is a different man underneath all of that. There probably is.
Mitt, to close, I am a dyed in the wool Ted Cruz supporter and intend to support him until he either wins the nomination, or until he drops out.
But I tell you this...if Donald Trump wins the nomination I will support him 100% against the absolutely corrupt Hillary Clinton who is promising to double down on Obama's disastrous policies. I will support him 100% against the open socialist Bernie Sanders, who though himself is very honest about what he is...is nonetheless honest about wanting to create an ideology and government form that will simply put the pedal to the metal in terms of Obama's policies.
THAT is what we need to unite against.
If Trump wins...and it looks like he will, and it looks like he will do so with an absolute majority of the delegates...THAT Is how we unite. We stand against the far greater evil.
I intend to do that.
In the end, I believe most Americans are tired enough of the political establishment, and educated enough to see what the goal is here.
Sincerely,
Jeff Head

The words in Romney’s speech and the constant battering and belittlement of Donald Trump were not only bad but uncalled for.
However the thing that bothered me most were his grins in places that showed he was thoroughly enjoying it and savoring the “gotcha” element that he was being cute.
It was a reflection of his lack of character in my view.
Cruz has the sociopolitical doctrines down right, but doesn’t have the “get it done” credentials Trump has.
Trump is rough, crude & imperfect, but he knows how to get $#!^ done on a multi-billion-dollar scale and despite fierce opposition.
Yeah, Trump is an a$$hole. Some of ‘em know how to get stuff done, and if we don’t get federal spending fixed and some key dictators beaten back into their holes, doctrine isn’t going to matter.
And yes, it’s possible to support both Trump _and_ Cruz. I voted Cruz, and seem to spend a lot of time defending Trump.
Simply put: if we don’t get government spending below revenue soon, we’re gonna have a civil war. Cruz will make a laudable attempt; Trump can make it happen.
Come on guys.
It’s fine to pick your horse in this race.
Cruz is mine.
But these are ther preliminaries and the main event is coming.
when that time comes...do not get so worked up on either side that you lose site of the real goal.
Four or Republic, for our kids, for our grandkids, we simply have to defeat Hillary or sanders.
Cruz or Trump would be immeasurably better than either of those two.
The GOPe has lost site of that...and are showing it to the world openly.
The Romney attack-Trump speech we just witnessed was the big kickoff of the GOPe’s last-gasp get-Trump campaign that we all knew was coming.
The GOPe get-Trump committee got together in secret over the last few days and wrote this speech and got Romney to read it for them because they knew Romney still had the gravitas to get broadcast on all the news channels for free.
As Breitbart.com said today, Romney is the hill that the GOPe chose to die on. Either this speech 1.) helps Trump because the GOPe’s out-of-touch attack on the GOP’s leading candidate supported by the largest number of rank-and-file voters is simply more gasoline dumped on nearly 20 years of already red-hot anger, thus further propelling Trump towards being the GOP nominee, in which case the entire GOPe lobbyist, special interests, consultant class complex dies; or 2.) this last-gasp GOPe attack hurts Trump, leading to a brokered convention with some loser the rank-and-file voters hate, leading to a Hillary victory and the loss of the Senate and House as the rank-and-file GOP voters finally say enough is enough and stay home, culminating in the final, permanent, destruction of the U.S. Constitution when Hillary appoints Barrack Hussien Obama as Antonin Scalia’s replacement. This lose-lose position taken by the GOP aristocracy is typical behavior by the Stupid Party, unlike Trump’s positions where he wins with nearly any outcome, as explained by “Dilbert” creator Scott Adams: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kydKTVLmP58&feature=youtu.be.
Romney’s get-Trump speech has finally laid naked for all to see that the Democrat party aren’t the REAL enemy of the people, instead the REAL enemy is the fake opposition party to the Democrats. The Democrats no longer pretend to be what they are not: they now overtly campaign as the party of national socialism, period. The Democrats have also repeatedly demonstrated that they are willing to sacrifice their individual members to advance their socialist agenda, e.g., Obamacare cost them the House and the Senate. The GOPe is willing to sacrifice nothing.
The GOPe is interested in nothing but keeping their own gravy trains chugging along. And thus with Romney’s get-Trump speech, we all have proof positive of what we’ve known all along: the GOPe is nothing but the minority partner of the Uniparty, but that’s quite good enough thank you very much, just so long as their gravy trains keep pulling into the hog trough station, loaded with all of those free shrimp cocktails and caviar at the posh gala D.C. soirées, free jet trips around the world, free five star hotel living, free five star restaurant dining, and free skybox seats at the major league sporting events, all paid for by the peasants and lobbyists.

Finally, one of the most interesting aspects to Romney’s get-Trump speech is that it was even necessary, because the GOPe as stupid as it is, did at least realize that neither Cruz nor Rubio had the chops to take Trump out, necessitating the GOPe to step in and bail them out. It’s too bad Romney never attacked Obama the way he attacked Trump, but then again, clearly Romney finds Obama associate, criminal and traitor Hillary Clinton more acceptable than GOP leader Donald Trump. And one final thing worth noting is that the GOPe finds Cruz, Rubio and Kasich perfectly acceptable to them; Trump is the only one they are scared of, Trump is the only one they feel they cannot control, Trump is the only one who is not a member of The Club, Trump is the only man of the people. Trump is simply unacceptable to the true enemy of the people: the GOPe aristocracy.
those two supposedly irreverent, profane, no good guys at that remote location.
Jeff, we out here in the hinterlands call people like that “the salt of the earth”. The vast majority of the “great unwashed” in this country are people such as this.
Well said, Jeff.
Romney made a fool of himself four years ago, snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
I was embarrassed for him today seeing his little act. What a putz.
They do not get what is happening...and they are so engrossed in their own trappings of power that they are blind to it.
What they did today will only stoke the flames of this fire storm higher.
Yes...it will most definitely, IMHO< backfire on them.
They are, simply put, trying to subvert the will of the people and force the race to a brokered convention so that THEY can pick the candidate.
That’s all most people need to know. Most Americans will tell them exactly what they can do with that.
“The GOPe just does not get what is happening...and I honestly believe that their blinders are so tightly affixed and so thick, that they never will.”
Exactly right! Your open letter is spot-on and very kind. These sorts have done nothing to be deserving of such kindness and respect. I believe God has been calling out to them, and your letter is more evidence of such. Their failure to not only listen, but to continue to elevate themselves in each other’s eyes, patting each other on the back with each new insult and attack on We the People, will not go unnoticed from God’s eyes. The pain and suffering they have caused millions of Americans, despite the countless letters and pleas from the very people they were supposed to represent, is going to be their downfall. And the fall from the lofty heights they have raised themselves up to, is gonna hurt like nothing they’ve experienced ever before.
Bravo for the great letter.

Ping for later. You usually have something good to say.
Mitt Romney? Isn’t that the guy Trump has been calling “dumb”, “incompetent” and a “loser” for the last year? The one with the “mean-spirited” and “dumb” self-deportation immigration policy? Are you really surprised and shocked that he finally responded? You think that he should have just shut his mouth after all the ridiculous attacks Trump the liar and con man has launched FIRST against him?
My open letter to Mitt...
Dear Mitt,
Why don’t you put on a skirt and heels and take a walk downtown with the other phony whores?
Thx Jeff, Mitt reached a new low, and he is a stooge for the republican elite.
Sorry Jeff Head,
This reply was meant to go to you.
Bravo for the great letter.
Irish
Exactly.
Good to the core...and they would drop what they are doing and come help.
I would trust my life in their hands (and in our job, sometimes we literally did).
Look, I try not to use bad language...but I am not going to pitch a heart of gold over a cliff because of a a habit like that.
Those who would...miss the mark. And they miss it by a mile.
Romney’s speech today simply stoked the flames of the insurgency against the GOPe all the higher.
Great letter, thanks for posting.
Romney’s letter was so out of character for this timid, weak man, I think someone else wrote it. I almost got whip lash from his head going back and forth on the teleprompter. I didn’t realize he was that stupid. Just a bunch of insults and lies are easy to remember if you wrote them yourself. Sounded like something crazy Glenn Beck wrote. What Romney’s attack piece proved to me is he’s jealous of Trump because Trump has more money and is appealing to segments of voters who’ve not voted republican in 30 years. Romney sees the numbers turning out to vote for Trump and for that he hates him. Romney’s day in the spotlight is over and he’s mad.
That is just how we feel, all of us, whether we are Cruz fans, or Trump fans, we don't have a party anymore, we have ‘clowns’ running our government, and thank you Jeff for writing this!!!
Will Romney read it, I could care less if he does or doesn't because honestly, his opinion doesn't matter to me one bit...he had his chance and he blew it....
I am a 100% Trump supporter, work on the Trump Campaign and I have been 100% for Trump from June 2015 because he speaks what I see and feels, and he talks ‘to’ us and not ‘at’ us!!!
