Donald Trump released his health care plan Wednesday evening, finally detailing the way in which he would fulfill his campaign trail promise to repeal and replace Obamacare.
In a seven-point plan posted to his website and publicized by a tweet, Trump says he will do away with the individual health insurance mandate, as well as allow competition over states lines for health care plans, and block grant Medicaid to the states, allowing them to follow through on his prescription to "eliminate fraud, waste and abuse to preserve our precious resources."
The decision to go against the idea of an individual mandate is new for Trump, who told CNN during a February town hall before the South Carolina primary that he "likes the mandate" and that makes him "a little bit different" than other conservatives.
But Wednesday's plan outlines as the first point on the list: "Our elected representatives must eliminate the individual mandate. No person should be required to buy insurance unless he or she wants to."
He counters that, however, by saying individuals should be allowed to "fully deduct health insurance premium payments from their tax returns."
The third bullet point goes on to say that "we must make sure no one slips through the cracks simply because they cannot afford insurance" and that "we must review basic options for Medicaid and work with states to ensure that those who want healthcare coverage can have it."
Further, Trump ties illegal immigration to his healthcare plan, writing "providing healthcare to illegal immigrants costs us some $11 billion annually ... If we were to simply enforce the current immigration laws and restrict the unbridled granting of visas to this country,

It seems simple. Maybe too simple for some to grasp. Taking the complex and making it simple is the mark of a great communicator. How ever it does require an open mind to process it. Those who pride themselves as so intelligent often don’t grasp simplicity.

Yes, absolutely..
Remember this?
It's the Obamacare organization chart depicting all the departments need to run Obammacare. I think this copy is dated late 2009.
Hopefully Trump will rip this out by the roots.

What big government solution would that be? Did he, or did he not say "I like the mandate?"
When he realized what his Freudian slip was doing to his campaign, he back tracked and tried to say that what he meant was that the insurance companies would be mandated to provide coverage for pre existing conditions. Ok, is that constitutional? Is that even feasible without either subsidizing the insurance companies or enforcing the employer mandate and the individual mandate?
Trump may be very attractive as an anti-establishment candidate. But lets not deceive ourselves into believing that he is a constitutional conservative. I suspect he's never read the document. He claims to be a great Christian, but he's obviously never bothered to read the Bible. But he did promise to build that Wall, didn't he?

Ummm... I think Trump understands that it's not the governments job to create jobs. Trump creates jobs in his whole friggin' empire!
Trump hates government sticking it's nose into the private sector with all it rules, regulations and taxes. Have you ever run a business?

Looks remarkably similar to Cruz’ plan which Cruz has been advocating for years. Trump is a little late to the party; and as always, everything with Trump is negotiable.

I don’t see any mandate in the proposal.

You should have submitted with a “reply all” so others would get your message. Sadly folks are not paying attention to Trump’s ideas and don’t take the time to read his position papers on his web site.

Most of the people here should read it. They are incredibly uninformed and make up crap based on hearsay. Sadly they are too lazy.

Oh, I don’t know. Maybe the gov’t could run PSA’s educating the populace on how unnecessary procedures run up their premiums.
When you get right down to it, ending employer provided insurance would perhaps be the best bet.

Cool. I did see that someone posted that this proposal follows pretty much what Trump wrote in his 2011 book. It’s great if Cruz and Trump are saying close to the same thing. Multiplies our chances of getting it done.

How to force states? he Commerce Clause, Article I Section 8 Clause 3 of the Constitution of the United States, grants Congress the power To regulate Commerce with foreign Nations, and among the several States, and with the Indian Tribes. The commerce power is an enumerated power of Congress and the Supreme Court has interpreted it as an express grant of authority to Congress and an affirmative limitation on the rights of the states to regulate commerce within their own borders.

I thought you were a lawyer? Don’t know where I got that idea. Big difference between talking, negotiating, proposing, hacking out a deal, finessing the contract (or bill), getting approval and inking the final deal.

I did read it. What was glaringly missing was any reference to covering pre existing conditions. But he orally promised dozens of times to make coverage for pre existing conditions a vital part of his plan since he didn’t want people dying in the streets. His plan does not comport with his promises. What else is new?
