There were a couple of guys in high school...inseparable chums, effeminate... that everyone knew were guy. People that knew them and liked them swore up and down they were straight, and sometimes threatened to hit people that called them "gay." Years, decades, actually, after high school, I saw one of them washing his car, wearing a white wife-beater and Daisy Duke cutoffs, sporting a Freddie Mercury mustache. I told this to a girl that knew him and she became nearly violent defending him. I told her "I could give a sh*t one way or the other, but you have to admit he contributes to the impression."
