U.S. Republicans in Washington are coming to grips with what many of them not long ago considered an unimaginable reality: Donald Trump is likely to be their presidential nominee and standard-bearer.
The prospect of Trump winning the Republican primary had been the stuff of Washington jokes, whispered hallway conversations and eye-rolls, even as he led in public opinion polls for months and dominated debate after debate.
But with the brash billionaire now winning three straight contests in New Hampshire, South Carolina, and Nevada, denial is giving way to a mostly gloomy acceptance that he may have too much momentum to be stopped, especially if wins big in key Southern primaries next week that look favorable to him.
"It fills all of us with concern and dread, said Senator Jeff Flake of Arizona, who has endorsed fellow Senator Marco Rubio of Florida, considered the main hope of the Republican establishment to derail Trumps march to the nomination.

The concern is less about Trump himself as President than it is dread over his effect down ticket. I believe that he's going to be a disaster for Republicans running for Congress. We'll probably hang on to the House, though with a much smaller margin, but I'm extremely concerned we're going to lose the Senate because of him.
So the source of our dread is the prospect of a Democrat Senate, and a much less Republican House.
“Robert Kagan, a conservative foreign relations expert at the Brookings Institution think tank, said in a column for the Washington Post on Thursday that he would vote for Clinton rather than Trump.”
One guess as to who Robert Kagan is married to. Yep, it’s THAT BAD on our side.
Brookings has always leaned left. It would be a bigger deal if it was folks with the Hoover Institution or AEI.
They will be quite disappointed when it becomes clear that Trump shares more positions with hellery tan he does with Reagan. its obvious but they will not see it.
“I believe that he’s going to be a disaster for Republicans running for Congress.”
I actually think the opposite is true, and can be demonstrated from history.
In 2012, Mitt Romney took down a slew of moderate, Establishment nominees, because conservatives stayed home.
A Trump candidacy will bring more (and already has) people to the polls to vote republican than ever. Similar to 1980, when the Reagan landslide mowed down 12 democrats in the senate, I think, ironically, Trump would “save” the seats of Toomey, Ayotte, etc.
Of course, we’ll see who is right. But I don’t believe this ridiculous meme that Trump would hurt candidates down-ballot. When they see his popularity with the people, being politicians, they will begin to parrot him, and pretend to be against Amnesty, and run against their records, etc.
a republican candidate with a spine and a set of bawls attached?
oh the dread... the DREAD !!!
if this continues, the democrats might not win the election! what then?!

Well... it isn't a genuine democracy, it's a Republic. I think what you are referring to is whether or not we have a democratic voting process.
Look at how the GOP treated the Tea Party. That tells you everything you need to know about them. The GOPe is all about itself, not their voters.
Cruz for SCOTUS!
I’ve been saying for a while now that I expect a lot of Freepers to disappear or change their screen names if Trump is ever elected.
If you have TDS, does that mean you are deranged because you support Trump, or because you hate Trump ?
Does the miracle drug come with the box full of kittens ?
That makes the point perfectly. LOL.
You walk into the room with your pencil in your hand
You see somebody naked and you say, “Who is that man?”
You try so hard but you don’t understand
Just what you will say when you get home
Because something is happening here but you don’t know what it is
Do you, Mr. Jones?
You raise up your head and you ask, “Is this where it is?”
And somebody points to you and says, “It’s his”
And you say, “What’s mine?” and somebody else says, “Well, what is?”
And you say, “Oh my God, am I here all alone?”
But something is happening and you don’t know what it is
Do you, Mr. Jones?
You hand in your ticket and you go watch the geek
Who immediately walks up to you when he hears you speak
And says, “How does it feel to be such a freak?”
And you say, “Impossible!” as he hands you a bone
And something is happening here but you don’t know what it is
Do you, Mr. Jones?
You have many contacts among the lumberjacks
To get you facts when someone attacks your imagination
But nobody has any respect, anyway they already expect you to all give a check
To tax-deductible charity organizations
Ah, you’ve been with the professors and they’ve all liked your looks
With great lawyers you have discussed lepers and crooks
You’ve been through all of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s books
You’re very well-read, it’s well-known
But something is happening here and you don’t know what it is
Do you, Mr. Jones?
Well, the sword swallower, he comes up to you and then he kneels
He crosses himself and then he clicks his high heels
And without further notice, he asks you how it feels
And he says, “Here is your throat back, thanks for the loan”
And you know something is happening but you don’t know what it is
Do you, Mr. Jones?
Now, you see this one-eyed midget shouting the word “Now”
And you say, “For what reason?” and he says, “How”
And you say, “What does this mean?” and he screams back, “You’re a cow!
Give me some milk or else go home”
And you know something’s happening but you don’t know what it is
Do you, Mr. Jones?
Well, you walk into the room like a camel, and then you frown
You put your eyes in your pocket and your nose on the ground
There ought to be a law against you comin’ around
You should be made to wear earphones
‘Cause something is happening and you don’t know what it is
Do you, Mr. Jones?
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell vowed any tea party candidates challenging establishment Republicans in the 2014 midterm elections would not just fail but fail miserably.
I think we are going to crush them everywhere, he said, The New York Times reported, I dont think they are going to have a single nominee anywhere in the country.

There’s something happening here
What it is ain’t exactly clear
There’s a man with a gun over there
Telling me I got to beware
I think it’s time we stop, children, what’s that sound
Everybody look what’s going down
There’s battle lines being drawn
Nobody’s right if everybody’s wrong
Young people speaking their minds
Getting so much resistance from behind
It’s time we stop, hey, what’s that sound
Everybody look what’s going down
What a field-day for the heat
A thousand people in the street
Singing songs and carrying signs
Mostly say, hooray for our side
It’s s time we stop, hey, what’s that sound
Everybody look what’s going down
Looks like the whining has already begun. LOL!
They are quoting a GOP Senator.
If he actually said that then Trump needs to see that he follows through and puts these pussies heads on pikes.
It’s nothing more than Kabuki Theatre. They pretend to hate one another and publically trade insults, but that is only to convince the peasants that they are at odds with each other, when in fact they are all part of the same elite class, and hug, kiss and adore themselves when they are behind closed doors.
To wit, I recall that ugly, nasty, cankeled matriarch of the Bush family stating publically that she considers the serial rapist and adversary of her husband, Bill Clinton to be as mch of a son to her as the rest of her unholy spawn (GWB, Neil, Yeb!).
Piss on them all.
