Trump wants to 'open up' libel laws to sue media outlets

Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump on Friday vowed to "open up" libel laws in order to sue media outlets that write "purposely negative" and "horrible" articles about him.

"I’m gonna open up our libel laws, so when they write purposely negative and horrible, false articles, we can sue them and win lots of money," Trump said at a rally in Fort Worth, Texas.

"We’re going to open up those libels laws," he added. "So that when The New York Times writes a hit piece, which is a total disgrace, or when The Washington Post, which is there for other reasons, writes a hit piece, we can sue them and win money."

Now regarding your legislative comparisons [which cannot begin to justify the comparison to Hitler ...]

‘You are failing to address the key point about Trump’s fascism: state control of private enterprise.’

Obama is a good example of radical socialism that coul easily parallel facism. But even the extreme of Obama is only comparable to Hitler when you add his support of abortion.

‘That he has come out for continued (and illegal) Federal land ownership ...’

Preserving national parks is not Hitleresque or even facist. It’s Teddy Roposevelt progressivism.

‘Federal control of medical care ...’

The entire healthcare system was distorted with government meddling even before Obama. Even if Trump wanted us to go ‘cold turkey’ free market with healthcare, the republicans in congress would not let him.

Falls short of being Hitleresque or even facist.

’ ... and Federal direction of private enterprise are essentially fascist.’

No more so than GW Bush with his assistance in paying for medicine.

That word, facist, is poisoning any point you are trying to make.

‘The guy has no concept or appreciation for Constitutionally limited government.’

If true, that puts him in a gargantuan club. Like I said, we need education reform. But actually, I believe he gets it. Trump’s judicial nominees are awesome.

You see, the words, ‘Hitler’ and ‘brownshirt’ tend to paint certain images.

Stop talking at me like I'm an idiot. You just don't like that the parallels are accurate.

Typical partizanship. It’s human nature and dominates supporters of all popular candidates, including Cruz supporters.

Nonsense. Did you read them? You complained and then got feedback DATA that blew your thesis.

Back to basics — a contractor managed the entire thing with the Poles. Trump had deep pockets and was sued based on a loophole. So every aspect of the attack on Trump as 'icon of illegal labor' is probably more bogus than you might think.

Strawman. He uses illegal Mexicans in his hotels, casinos, golfcourses, and construction projects too. That's just harder to document because this one has a court case judgment.

In New York it's impossible to build anything unless you do business with shady characters. They even have monopolies there due to union laws and other regulations. Los Vegas? I suspect it's even worse there.

I know. That means one must show what the quid pro quo really was, which is exceptionally difficult. The point is more serious: It means he may be open to blackmail.

My point is more closely attuned to the thread — Trump wants tougher lawsuits because he's feeling maliciously libeled.

Tough. The evidentiary standards should remain unchanged. The penalites on the other hand should change, but not the way Trump wants.

Regardless of your points, Trump’s best known accusers are claiming that he’s a hypocrite on illegal immigration.

He said 'thirty years ago,' and he’s absolutely right.

He's still doing it.

When they attacked him over the Polish illegals 30 years ago — hired by a contractor — THAT was misdirection.

How's that strawman looking now?

Preserving national parks is not Hitleresque or even facist. It’s Teddy Roposevelt progressivism.

Advocating government control of land use is still fascism.

No more so than GW Bush with his assistance in paying for medicine.

Yes more so. There are tens of thousands of pages of diktats in XeroCare, many designed for political purposes, especially because Democrats see more vote potential in illegals than they do in seniors.

If true, that puts him in a gargantuan club. Like I said, we need education reform. But actually, I believe he gets it.

The array of candidates for President is a little more pertinent and restrictive than your "gargantuan club."

Trump's judicial nominees are awesome.

Like his sister? Sheesh.

‘Nonsense. Did you read them? You complained and then got feedback DATA that blew your thesis.’

First off, the first posts were a bombardment of dispute against Trump. Good. Then finally ...

Post 18 ...

‘As a Trumpian I admit this is dopey, but for one tiny sliver. The media bear no responsibility or ultimate consequence for anything they say save ‘malice aforethought’ and total immunity for what they do to those ‘in the public eye’. In a real free market so be it. But in a litigious society they shouldn’t have such a loose standard. Covering culture and current events doesn’t extend to lying about them.’ — major-pelham

Now I don’t see how this other Trump supporter was ‘immune to the facts’. But no ... we’re all ‘immune to the facts’.

Sounds reasonable, but it's not true.

The point is still made. I did miss that one, having got so sick of the bile that I couldn't go on.

The strawman was not mine, it is the latest zinger against Trump.

‘[Forced to deal with the mob, Trump] may be open to blackmail.’

Valid point. I’ll give you that. And here we are on Super Tuesday still at the speculation level when Jeb and the gang had all this time to take him out.

‘Regardless of your points, Trump’s best known accusers are claiming that he’s a hypocrite on illegal immigration.’

Well they’re doing a lame job of making their case.

‘How’s that strawman looking now?’

It’s looking like Cruz and Rubio are GRASPING at straws and Jeb simply gave up.

Ain't no zinger; it's fact. He couldn't be competitive in that business if he didn't hire illegals and you know it.

I believe that the media, at large, has abdicated any shred of credibility. Sites like Free Republic, people like Rush, have blown their cover on this. I do not buy a single syllable of what the MSM says out of hand. Trump shouldn’t waste his time. The media has done so many hit pieces on conservatives, they don’t even raise eyebrows any more. That and the fact that Hillary is allowed to skate by is all the evidence you need.
