Put the Hillabeast in prison (with Muslim terrorists) and you can break my iPhone.

Do it, you folks are one of the only gubmit agencies with any respect left.

Take the ignorant grifting slut down and we are yours.

FBI should hack the phone themselves if they can. Not Apple’s job.

Don’t see much merit in Apple’s position but I’m glad a rich and powerful organization is fighting this.
it deserves great consideration.

(And it’s less money Apple has to donate to perverts and abortionists...)

You know if this was happening during the Bush years, there'd be tons of editorials ripping Bush, the DOJ, and the FBI to shreds and Tim Cook being the most popular person in America.

I'm also disappointed that Trump is taking the gubmint's side.

I have a serious problem with this court order if it is indeed requiring Apple to create software that does not exist. The government ordering businesses to create/manufacture stuff ... that is virtually the definition of nazism.

Sure we want to find out what these muslim death cultists had on their phone. But we have to make sure we don’t go down the wrong road to reach the correct destination. It is very easy to disguise usurpation as “national security”.

“...requiring Apple to create software that does not exist. The government ordering businesses to create/manufacture stuff...”

Not really all that strange, KyCats. Shucks, they forced all of us to buy health insurance. They make us all pay confiscatory taxes on our incomes, unlike businesses. They tell us where we can build our homes, how we must manage water resources and wetlands on our own properties, and they tell us what kinds of firearms we can own.
Nothing really new in this order to Apple...

I’m just appreciative that Apple is fighting it. Wish them the best.

And that’s how it happens. One little step at a time, conditioning the people along the way to accept more and more governmental oppression. Then one night you have a fire at the Reichstag at that’s all she wrote.

“If Apple were required to build the software the FBI wants, the lawyers argued, “criminals, terrorists and hackers will no doubt view the code as a major prize and can be expected to go to considerable lengths to steal it.”

Hmmmmmm...and Apple is too feeble to protect it? The Gubmint doesn’t want the program. It would be in Apple’s control. This is a court order - a one time, one off court order, and therefore can NOT establish a precedent, unless it is fought in court. They are lying through their teeth in Apple land. It’s all about the money.

“But Apple said the specialized software the government wants it to build does not currently exist and “would require significant resources and effort to develop,” including the work of six to 10 engineers working two to four weeks.”

Awwwwwww poor 53 billion dollar a year company...but wait! Theres more!

The magistrate judge suggested in her ruling that the government would be required to pay Apple’s costs.

So even if the 53 Billion Dollar a year company performed this function, jeopardizing their very existence financially, what with having to pay...oh wait...they don’t pay for it...well still, someone could get it...but wait, Apple will have it...

What’s the concern again? That cooperating might cause the world to explode? Must be a serious blow to their bottom line possibilities if all the narco cartels, boy lovers and Jihadis decide to take their business elsewhere. NOONE answers a court order just to get ahead of a shareholders meeting.

Follow the money....

"Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety" so wrote Benjamin Franklin in 1755.

The contrarian/libertarian side of me gives support to Apple in this case. Have at me ladies and gentlemen of FR.

The next iPhone, or perhaps the next iOS on newer phones, will be protected from anybody without the passcode. Including Apple.

Tim Cook has agreed to allow China's State Internet Information Office to carry out security audits of Apple products sold in the country. Cook reportedly made the offer during his meeting with China's Cyberspace Administration minister Lu Wei in December.

It's kind of funny that he gave the complete deal to the ChiComs. But then their lowball production has allowed him to make huge markups on his products and to become a "Gazillionaire".
