There is no evidence that a Trump presidency would promote evangelical values; in fact, there is more evidence that he would oppose them. Yet Trump continues to be the favorite candidate of evangelical voters. They do not seem to be asking the most basic questions, like whether this candidate has the right principles; whether the candidate offers a realistic plan for realizing those principles within the constraints of our political system; and whether the candidate demonstrates the character, experience, and virtue to make that plan succeed. How do we account for this evident discrepancy between these votersâ principles and their expressed political preferences?

So I guess the circular firing squad is going to continue until we get Rubio. Thanks guys.
Trump runs a major, successful business.
In a business, you’re the boss. In the Government, you’re our hireling.
and?
I don’t have any questions about his professional temperament, given his success and the fact that he has to make real decisions affecting the real-world.
He likely has a better temperament for high office than anyone in Congress.
Evangelicals are like the blacks on the democrat plantation. Years of loyalty with nothing to show for it.Finally they are waking up.
The author doesn’t seem to understand that Trumpism has nothing to do with good government or conservatism but is all about punishing the GOP and it’s ‘ruling class’.
Trumpites just want the entertainment of a lynching.
Most of the Evangelicals are single issue voters.
They are asking themselves a very basic question; which candidate will allow us to keep our country?
That’s why they back Trump.
All the other questions don’t matter in 2016.
There is no evidence that a Trump Administration would continue the attacks on Christians now being carried out by the Obama Administration.
Candidates offering a full loaf but that lose every time are a waste of limited resources. Those that win offering only half a loaf are far better.
“How do we account for this evident discrepancy between these voters’ principles and their expressed political preference?”
Simple.
Look at the alternatives.
So, what’s wrong with that. D.C. needs an enema and it’s long past time to flush the toilet.
All these high minded pompous lectures fall on deaf ears when voters are looking for deeds, not just more words.
Priorities:
1) Deal with immigration before demographic shifts reach the tipping point, the government-supported class becomes dominant, and it becomes impossible to elect any sort of conservative ever again.
2) Get the economy back on track so that the private sector is providing employment again.
(distant third): everything else.
The EXECUTIVE branch is run by an Executive. Business are run by EXECUTIVES
It’s not a “circular firing squad.” It’s a firing squad against the pro-eminent domain, pro-Planned Parenthood, pro-touchback amnesty, pro-ethanol, pro-adultery, pro-slander RINO Trump.
“How do we account for this evident discrepancy between these votersââ¬â¢ principles and their expressed political preferences?”
Trump is the revolt against the elites. We are having the French Revolution without the guillotine.
The nobility just can’t figure that out; they think we can just eat cake...
