Straight Talk I am a Ted Cruz supporter, but I want to say a thing or too to my Republican brothers and sisters...indeed to all of my American brothers and sisters...about Donald Trump. I hear many people, analysts, prgnosticators, and politicians trying to explain the Turmp "Phenomenon." They go to great lengths about all sorts of things when it is really pretty easy and straight forward. It's a three bullet point explanation:
Say what you will about the man. Call him irreverant. Call him angry. Call him a braggart. Call him whatever you want. Most people already understand all those types of things about him...and they are getting behind him anyway because of those three very direct points I just mentioned. He has opened the doors wide on issues that most Americans think about...and offering solutions that most American people have already thought to themselves. Now those same Americans are finding out that the right person does not have to be politically correct. The right person does not have to be politically spit and polished. The right person simply has to be believed. Let's just look at five pretty big things real quickly:
As I say, I am a Ted Cruz supporter. I believe Ted cruz would make all of these things happen as well, and ahs simlarly good plans for them. I intend to support Ted as long as he is in the race...and to the nomination if we can get there. But I also believe Trump is a very capable individual who can make these things happen too...and so would support him in a heartbeat if he wins the nomination. I also talk to a LOT of people. I know Black Americans who voted for Obama and feel very let down by him (with good reason...life for many Black Americans is worse under Obama than it has been in years), who will be voting for Trump.
I know Latino Americans whose parents or grandparents (or themselves) came to this country legally and who lean Democratic, but who will be voting for Trump. Why? It is precisely because they want illegal immigration controlled and believe Trump will actually do it...and not just pay lip service to it. They also believe that his economic policies will make life better for them and their families. I know many people in New York who are excited about Trump's prospects for putting New York in play for the GOP...and I believe he is the one GOP candidate who could do so. Seriously, I think the prognosticators, analysts, and career/establishment politicans simply do not get it. And so I think that what they are going to "get" is a big fat surprise. I honestly think that Trump may have the ability to pull together a large coalition capable of winning in a big fashion...something like we have not been seen since the 1980 and 1984 Reagan victories. And what is intrersting...if you remember it, or if you study it...it would be for very similar reaons and addressing very similar cicumstances. Is Trump mad or angry? Perhaps about certain things he is. But you might also call it rightously indignant or frustrated as well. But guess what? So are a LOT of Americans! Trump is speaking to that, and he is doing so in such a way that the people are inclined to give him the opportunity to make good on what he is saying. And if he does get the nomination, and if he does go on and accomplish these things... Well, get ready for eight years of a major turnaround and America becoming great again...in the eyes of its own citizens, and in the eyes of the world. Jeff Head

Great article. Very well said.
You should read the threads more. Many would stay home and hand the election to Hillary....at least that is what they are saying. :(
.
This was about his private taxes that he won’t make public. I support trump 100%. After McCain and Romney et al I fully support trump. It was as if McCain wanted Obama in and Romney was so so weak no offense whatsoever ugh!
So...you believe what? That HIllary or Sanders would be better for America than Trump?
Or that America...and all of its people...deserve to get Hillary or Bernie because of your antipathy for Trump?
There is no lie here....Trump, irrespective of what you think about him...irrespective of what you feel he has said about Cruz or anyone else...would be far, far better for America, for the American people, than Hillary or Bernie.
If Hillary or Bernie beat Trump it will be for only one reason...and that will be that they got more votes than Trump did. And if you and a couple of million like you withhold your vote...well then that is your choice...but do not try and kid yourself into saying you will not have contributed to a Hillary or sanders victory. That is not a lie...it is the truth.
Look, I support Cruz. I would rather he be the nominee. I will support him up until the time he either loses or stops. But then...if he is not the nominee...I will do all in power to keep this nation from being harmed by another four or eight years of a continuation of Obama’s policies and more.
If you cannot see that...that that will be horrible for America...then there is really not much to say. But it is clear as the nose on anyone’s face.
I will do all I can to avoid that....and it is because Trump would be far better for America...for my kids...for my grandkids, than Hillary or Bernie.
You can kid yourself and say that either it does not matter, or that the rest of us somehow deserve it...but, my rined, that will be the lie.
See my post 65.
This is not about my feelings...or about rabid supporters of anyone. I have news for you...ere are rabid supporters of all candidates.
I support Cruz and will continue to do so...but there are just as rabid Cruz supporters.
Allowing Hillary or Bernie to be inflicted on America because of the likes of anyone’s rabid supporters is , IMHO, paying more heed to your own feelings and sense of injured pride than it is to the American people and the future of the country.
See my post 65.
I will be you, dollars to doughnuts, that if Trump wins the nomination..>Cruz will support him.
why will he do that? Because he knows that this is much bigger than himself.
Well said...and thanks for your civility and efforts at reason.
We need a whole lot more of that.
Yes...I see that in this thread too. That is their choice...and they are free to make it.
It does not mean it is right...and it does not mean it will mean anything good for the country.
I responded to such sentiments in post 65.
as usual Jeff, what comes from your heart & keyboard is well expressed and spot on.
Thanks, Jeff. Always enjoyed your commentaries! This one’s right on the money.
The only thing about which I disagree with you Jeff, is your belief that Cruz would be able to accomplish the same things that Trump is promising to accomplish, and more. We have never seen a President able to accomplish the radical amount of change to our federal government that Trump is proposing. Why do you think Cruz is any different from all the other well meaning but ineffective conservatives who have come before him and been unable to push through any significant portion of the conservative agenda.
To do the kinds of things Trump is talking about, you need the force of personality of someone like Donald Trump. Trump is a once in a century political figure who brings qualities to the Presidency that are exceedingly rare. For all his assumed conservative purity and intellectual ability, Cruz just doesn’t have those qualities.
I think Cruz could do so...if elected.
He is committed to these same things, and has worked tirelessly to actually stand up to Obama and the DNC, and the GOPe.
...and if the voice f the people put him into office, he would act on them with a GOP congress that would ride in on his election.
Time will tell.
It's all over. Please give up now. Cruz is finished. It's not ME saying that. Buh bye. Don't embarrass yourself and other Cruzers by staying after Ted's candidacy is effectively over (and entirely over in less than two weeks). Don't waste any more of JR's bandwidth. For us older Freepers, it puts extra wear-and-tear scrolling past the Cruzers' lies and rants. If you are so completely committed to open borders, "free trade", amnesty, TPP, etc., start posting Rubio's robotic bs.
For the trolls, whatever Goldman Sachs and Robert Mercer are paying you to troll and spam the Internet, you can probably get Silicon Valley to pay you to do the same for Mario. Really, Mario's donors are the same as Cruz's, simply the Donor Class and K-Street.
Thanks for the post. BTTT.
Well, I am of the class of 1998 too...and for me it is not over yet.
We will see what March 1st, 8th and 15th brings.
In the mean time, I have made it clear and appealed to others regarding what I think of Trump and his candidacy.
Any true Cruz supporter...meaning they support the principles he is fighting for...would absolutely support Trump if Cruz does not make it.
In fact, I am willing to bet dollars to doughnuts, that should Trump win the nomination, Cruz himself will throw in completely behind him.
I will be right there doing the same to defeat Hillary or Bernie...and I absolutely believe Trump would do so.
But that’s part of the problem, IMO. The president, whether it’s Cruz or Trump will have to know how to deal tough not only with the Democrats, but with a GOP which is overpopulated with elitist uniparty RINO types. Assuming Cruz is the conservative warrior many believe him to be, does he have the talent to steamroller Mitch McConnell, Paul Ryan, and the other corrupt Congressional leaders? I just don’t see it.
On top of that, even if Cruz was somehow able to win the Presidency does anyone genuinely see a scenario where he does it by a landslide? He would be lucky to squeak out a victory in the general if he were somehow able to secure the nomination. There would be no mandate with a Cruz victory. If he won, there’s a good chance we would lose at least the Senate to the Democrats. Cruz just doesn’t have ‘the gift’ that Trump has for making deals, and getting what he wants, whether it would be with a Democrat controlled Congress or a RINO controlled Congress.
In other words, most people are gullible morons who won't look at a person's history and record and are terrible judges of character.
The Trump phenomenon is ALL about style, not about substance. He's a terrific salesman who makes people think they're getting what they want while being so careful with his weasel words that he is actually promising next to nothing.
No. It’s not about feelings.
It’s not about one man who seeks high office.
It’s not about faction and party.
It’s not about succumbing to threats if we do not vote against the greater of two evils by voting for the lesser.
It’s about understanding history, human nature, avarice & power, the Constitution and what the Founders warned us about.
It’s about understanding the historical fact that a people who are ignorant of or discard their history and heritage, perish.
I’m simply watching and noting facets of the very things that were instrumental in the suicides and destruction of every single Republic that came before ours, most notably today, the mindset of a people who are no longer capable of keeping a Republic or maintaining freedom.
I’m not of the opinion that we can stop the consequences already sown against us by casting a ballot. I do not believe that you can stop institutionalized corruption and tyranny via civil means. I do not believe that a people who see the Executive as a quasi-monarchy or dictatorship if it suits their desires, are a people in whom freedom will remain for very long. Indeed, I have no faith in a people who cannot even agree on what the definition of freedom means or was intended to mean by those who risked their lives, fortunes and sacred honor to secure it for us.
I was told to beware of false christs and false messiahs. I was told that if people say to me “He is the one” - do not follow them or believe them. That is an admonition and warning that is not limited to religious leaders. I am as equally opposed to people who ascribe a politician the same status because of the hope they lay on them, regardless of who they are or what party they are affiliated.
I will always beware of a mob, especially one that has little facts to sustain their beliefs beyond the promises of a man running for office.
I do not give a whit who endorses whom. I’m looking at a bigger picture than even you possibly are.
