The Trump Phenomenon - Straight Talk

The Donald Trump Phenomenon
Straight Talk

I am a Ted Cruz supporter, but I want to say a thing or too to my Republican brothers and sisters...indeed to all of my American brothers and sisters...about Donald Trump.

I hear many people, analysts, prgnosticators, and politicians trying to explain the Turmp "Phenomenon."

They go to great lengths about all sorts of things when it is really pretty easy and straight forward. It's a three bullet point explanation:

  1. Most American people have lost complete faith in career politians and the political establishment on both sides of the aisle.
  2. Most American pople are tired of the US getting a bad rap and bad deals, whether from our own people here, or from people or nations abroad.
  3. Most American people believe, irrespective of whatever else, that Donald Trump means what he says and will do all he can to make it happen.
It's really that simple.

Say what you will about the man. Call him irreverant. Call him angry. Call him a braggart. Call him whatever you want.

Most people already understand all those types of things about him...and they are getting behind him anyway because of those three very direct points I just mentioned.

He has opened the doors wide on issues that most Americans think about...and offering solutions that most American people have already thought to themselves. Now those same Americans are finding out that the right person does not have to be politically correct. The right person does not have to be politically spit and polished. The right person simply has to be believed.

Let's just look at five pretty big things real quickly:

  1. Trump knows we have to have a border...and he is going to create one and enforce it. Most Americans agree with that sentiment. Most Americans want that to happen.

  2. Trump knows that we cannot vet Islamic refugees and immigrants from war torn countries. Most Amewricans fear what will happen if we bring tens of thousands of them here in such circumstances. They have already seen what happens in Paris and in San Diego when they are not vetted properly and some terrorists get through. As a result, most Americans support Trump's direct solution of putting a halt to Islamic immigrtion until we can figure out how to vet them appropriately. In fact, most Americans are thingking to themsleves, "Thank God...it's about time!" This is not hard to understand, and it has nothing to do with whether the American people are charitable and giving. The last 100 years have proven that a more charitable or caring people does not exist on the face of this earth.

  3. Trump knows that a horrible deal was made with Iran...so bad that the US Congress will not go near it. Obama's "deal" could never become a treaty because that would require the US Congress to ratify it. Most American people understand that when the leaders...the Mullahs...in Iran lead chant of, "Death to America," that they mean it and so they are not inclinded to make any "deal" with such people. Trump understands this and feels exactly the same way an is not afraid to say so...very directly. So his promise to end the "deal" as soon as he is president, is something all of these Americans cheer. Why, you may ask, will they not believe all of the tortured explanations that Obama gives on why making deals with those who vow to destroy you is actually a good thing? Go back to one and two above. It is as simple as that.

  4. Trump knows that Obama Care has been a disaster. Most Americans understand this and are experiencing it. They know they were lied to. They did not get to keep their Plan, They did not get to keep their Doctor. They did not save $2,500 per year...in fact most are paying $ 2,500 per year more...if not more. Many young people who do not want health care at their age, are opting out and paying the fine...and do not like it. So all of these folks agree with Trump's promise to overturn it and replace it with something more Free Market...more American.

  5. Trump knows that the progressive socialists have been taxing Corporate America at the highest rates in the world...driving them and jobs off shore. Americans have seen fewer and fewer good paying jobs available to them and their families. Most Americans want America to be great again. They want a thriving economy and they want those jobs back for their families...their kids and grandkids. Trump's plan to bring them back is something most Americans want...and believe he has the experience anbd the will to accomplish it.

If all Donald Trump did was accomplish those five things...America would turn around in a major way. But there are many more that more and more Americans believe he can tackle and address as well.

As I say, I am a Ted Cruz supporter. I believe Ted cruz would make all of these things happen as well, and ahs simlarly good plans for them. I intend to support Ted as long as he is in the race...and to the nomination if we can get there. But I also believe Trump is a very capable individual who can make these things happen too...and so would support him in a heartbeat if he wins the nomination.

I also talk to a LOT of people.

I know Black Americans who voted for Obama and feel very let down by him (with good reason...life for many Black Americans is worse under Obama than it has been in years), who will be voting for Trump.

I know Latino Americans whose parents or grandparents (or themselves) came to this country legally and who lean Democratic, but who will be voting for Trump. Why? It is precisely because they want illegal immigration controlled and believe Trump will actually do it...and not just pay lip service to it. They also believe that his economic policies will make life better for them and their families.

I know many people in New York who are excited about Trump's prospects for putting New York in play for the GOP...and I believe he is the one GOP candidate who could do so.

Seriously, I think the prognosticators, analysts, and career/establishment politicans simply do not get it. And so I think that what they are going to "get" is a big fat surprise.

I honestly think that Trump may have the ability to pull together a large coalition capable of winning in a big fashion...something like we have not been seen since the 1980 and 1984 Reagan victories. And what is intrersting...if you remember it, or if you study it...it would be for very similar reaons and addressing very similar cicumstances.

Is Trump mad or angry? Perhaps about certain things he is. But you might also call it rightously indignant or frustrated as well. But guess what? So are a LOT of Americans!

Trump is speaking to that, and he is doing so in such a way that the people are inclined to give him the opportunity to make good on what he is saying.

And if he does get the nomination, and if he does go on and accomplish these things...

Well, get ready for eight years of a major turnaround and America becoming great again...in the eyes of its own citizens, and in the eyes of the world.

Sorry, but I will not vote for the Donald. It is he and his supporters who have been imbecilic and crass, They both went out of their way to destroy a good conservative man who has been fighting against Washington while the Donald was partying with the Clintons. I do dislike Trump, as I would anyone I consider to be a loud mouthed bully, but I equally dislike his supporters. On top of that I have been told, numerous times by the Trump people that they don’t need my vote, or any Cruz supporters vote. The Donald is going to be elected without us. So be it.

If Hillary or Sanders win the election, it will be the fault of the people who nominated Trump, not the people who did not. That lie doesn’t work anymore.

I don't care what anyone says, Ted is not a weird guy.

Sure...he may look a little weird, but what's in an appearance?

He's an evangelical. We evangelicals will want to vote for him because of that.

Both parties have abandoned the American worker. It manifests itself in our immigration and trade policies.

Trump is following Jeff Session's brilliant template for victory, written two years ago, Becoming the party of work--How the GOP can help struggling Americans, and itself

A week ago, I would have agreed with you.

However, in the last few days, Trumps rabid supporters have turned me off from any kind of support from me, even if he is the nominee. Its 2008 all over again, only the zealotry for a man who is seen as a political messiah has switched sides of the political spectrum.

When your candidate with the most Conservative record in the Senate is declared a traitor to the United States of America, and by extension - those of us who are their supporters, I have no use for being part of such an insane mob. Im waiting for one of them to suggest we should be shot for treason if we dare question Trump.

No thanks.

I want no part of that.

Too much like the mob zombies for Ron Paul or Obama back in 2008.

I’m not a True Believer in the candidacy or institutions of men. Sorry.

Great post Jeff!

I sure wish that Trump and Cruz did not have so much bad blood between them now.

I wanted them as a team :-/

“He’s an evangelical. We evangelicals will want to vote for him because of that.”

Please don’t presume that all evangelicals agree with you. You know we don’t based on the last three primaries.

Thank you for coming here and reading this Thread.

I know the feeling about nasty posts. As in a Cruz person saying anyone who votes for Trump are not believers in Jesus Christ.

As I said before there are those on both sides.

I want to raise up higher than those.

God Bless

"Not one Ted Cruz supporter that I know personally “hates” Trump, or would ever dream of sitting home if Ted does not make it and Trump does."

You need to get out a little more into the threads like you used to. It's fugly and funny at the same time - but I put it down to this - the FReepers that populated early FreeRepublic are greying, many are pushing 70 (yikes), many are Zevangelicals, and with Cruz's implosion/defeat/Waterloo/dumbluck, many now know they will never see a Zevangelical elected President. Not just in their lifetime, but never. Never, never ever.

When Trump clinches the nomination most Cruzers will come over to Trump just like we all did to Mitt in 2012. Right now they are just not ready to accept defeat. After next Tues things will change.
